Duncan McKinnon is on leave from the Army Rangers to help his brothers find their missing father. A chance meeting in the airport with the woman he’d seduced on his last trip home makes him want to launch a mission to rekindle their desire, but the timing is off. Fiona Guthrie left Eagle Rock, Montana after a short-lived love affair with the one guy she’d never stopped loving. Their one-night … one-night stand only reinforced the fact Duncan was the only man for her and the baby created from their short union. Now she’s running for her life and the life of their baby girl.
When Duncan learns Fiona and her little girl are in trouble, he vows to protect them with his life, not quite understanding the incredible connection he has to the little girl who looks like him. The threat plaguing Fiona might just expose a link to the McKinnon brothers’ missing father.

If you want action, suspense, love and baby giggles, you’ve come to the right book! This one has it all! Loved the storyline, the back history and the present! Great characters!
I really enjoyed this book. I have not read the other books in this series. Looking forward to finding out what happens with the missing Patriarch.
This book was great. Could not put it down. Loved the characters.
Boring and did not even finish the book.
Fun read.
This was a quick read and too unbelievable, I had issues with Fiona. She acted like she was indestructible. She went to see the Faulkners without backup. She was investigating crimes when she shouldn’t have. Even for a small town orders from the sheriff should have been obeyed. I knew who stole the evidence when she was introduced into the story. All in all it was ok.
This was a cute story between Duncan and Fiona. It took awhile but at least Duncan woke up and fought to show Fiona he loved her and wasn’t in the relationship just because they had a baby together. Finally got HEA.
James never disappoints!
I read all her books
Duncan and Fiona has a one night stand has been on medical leave to recover. He returns home after 15 months because he father is missing. Fiona has had her hands full as a sheriff deputy and a single mother to the child wo is the result of her one night stand with Duncan. Fiona has a lot of guilty about the one night stand, Duncan had been drinking and Fiona is sure she took advantage of him. He home again and Fiona needs to tell him about his daughter. Fiona returns home from work to discover her home has been broken into and the intruder is still there. The first person Fiona Calls in Duncan, once he arrives she introduces him to his daughter. There are so many twists and turns n this story. Fiona loves Duncan and Duncan loves Fiona but they haven’t said the words. They are trying to catch a killer but the evidence was stolen from the sheriff’s office. Duncan’s father is still missing. The man who broke into Fiona’s home is murdered. There is one lawless family in the area that might be behind a lot of the problems. I love this book, it kept on the edge of my seat.
I listened to the audiobook. The narration was fine. I have read many of Elle James’ books. Definitely one of my automatically “go to” Authors. I won’t go as far as to say I hated this book, but I royally disliked it.
If I had to hear Fiona say one more time that Duncan would just want to be with her because of the baby, or Duncan wouldn’t want her if not for the baby, or she didn’t want to be responsible for forcing him into a situation he didn’t want, etc., I was going to lose my mind.
Then, for some reason, Duncan is providing this woman with all the apologies about what he didn’t do. I’m listening to the book wondering why the **** is he apologizing? He didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t imagine while he was in freaking’ Afghanistan, that he had more than brief amounts of time to wonder why Fiona had stopped communicating with him. I would imagine it was on his, “I’ll worry about this after I get out of here alive” list.
Plus, we have the I seduced him and took advantage guilt Fiona was going through. Did she not recognize Duncan was both a grown man as well as an Army Ranger? I can only think he had a ton of responsibility and ability to make a decision that did not require her input at all. But suddenly, she, of all people was able to coerce him into a sexual liaison. REALLY???
The ONLY reasons I even bothered to finish this book was to see if there was any progress on the whereabouts of James McKinnon and to find out the resolution of the Faulkner situation.
I truly want to give this book ONE star for having to listen to Fiona’s inner dialogue for so long, but I will go with 2 stars. Its a book that I would recommend you read and judge for yourself.
When you read this book, you need to be aware that the lead couple of the story does get a resolution to their personal relationship, but there is a broader mystery won’t get resolved until the end of the 5th book in the series. ‘Iron Horse Legacy’ is a companion series to the ‘Brotherhood Protectors’ series, but you definitely don’t need to have read that series to enjoy this one.
While on medical leave from the Army Rangers, Duncan returns home for the first time in 15 months to help search for his father, James. He runs into his childhood best friend, Fiona, who has a career as a deputy sheriff. She has a huge surprise for Duncan; the one night they hooked up before his last deployment resulted in a baby. I thought Duncan and Fiona were both very likable characters. I actually understood her reasons for not telling him about the baby because she was not really intending to be devious or anything like that – she was mostly afraid to distract him from his dangerous missions when she didn’t even know what their relationship status was.
This secret baby, friends-to-lovers romance it is clouded by run-ins with the violent, criminal Faulkner clan, and the ongoing search for James McKinnon. This book achieved an HEA for Duncan and Fiona, but James is still missing.
Another great book from Elle James. She really knows how to write a book. You have plenty of action, love, danger and hope. The brothers are still looking for the father. Duncan has come home from the serivce to help find his dad. He has injuries from his time overseas and doesn’t know if he’ll be medically dischared or not. But he has a big surprise when he comes home. Fiona is a deputy sheriff with a 6 month old baby girl. Someone is after Fiona for what she witnessed. Love this series and hope their father is found. But we have more siblings to go thru first I’m thinking before that happens.

Ranger’s Baby (Iron Horse Legacy Book 2)
5 stars
I purchased a copy of the romantic suspense novel Ranger’s Baby (Iron Horse Legacy Book 2):Duncan,Fiona and Caity by Elle James and this review was given freely.
Suspenseful and action packed with a touch of steam. This is secret baby and second chance at love romance with sinister undertones provided by the controversial and abusive Faulkner clan, a police investigation gone wrong, and the continued search for James McKinnon. While on medical leave from the Army Rangers, Duncan returns home for the first time in fifteen months to help search for his father but receives an unexpected surprise when he runs into his childhood best friend, Eagle Rock’s single mother and police deputy Fiona.

Marine’s Promise (Iron Horse Legacy Book 3)

SEAL’s Vow (Iron Horse Legacy Book 4)
5 stars
I received a free copy of the romantic suspense novel SEAL’s Vow (Iron Horse Legacy Book 4):Bastian and Jenna by Elle James and this review was given freely.
Poignant and action packed with a fair amount of violence offset by a steamy romance and scenes with the loving close knit McKinnon family. Eleven years after his high school sweetheart Lauren was killed in a car accident, Navy Seal Sebastian “Bastian” McKinnon finds himself attracted to the woman he has sworn to protect, his little sister Molly’s best friend Eagle Rock real estate agent and private investigator Jenna Meyers.
Ranger’s Baby by Elle James is the second book in the Iron Horse Legacy series and definitely worth reading. I really enjoyed this story!
The only man Fiona has ever loved put her in the friend zone years ago and left her there until one night fifteen months ago. However, since then she hasn’t seen or heard from him even though they are best friends. She is now busy raising their daughter by herself and working in Eagle Rock working as a deputy with the local Sheriff’s Department.
Duncan returned home to help his family and local law enforcement agencies find his missing father and so far hasn’t seen Fiona, until she calls him needing his help keeping their daughter safe. A daughter he knew nothing about since he has been gone months on a mission with the Army Rangers.
Working together to find out who is targeting Fiona and threatening their family puts them closer together and both of them are finding it difficult to hide their true feelings for one another.
I’m looking forward to reading more books in this wonderful series!
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
Another brother is clipped by Cupid’s Arrow!
Duncan nad Fiona have been friends for a long time but both seem to have been hesitant in the past to take things any further. But after a surprise fling on his last leave, Duncan left a little smething behind – a daughter!
Fiona has been a one woman village in raising her daughter so far but now with local criminals after her, she has to turn to Duncan for help. But once again their timing might be off, his father is missing.
Sometimes I worry about these men! They can be so dense as to what is right in front of them. You really want to smack them upside the head with something heavy! In saying that Fiona cuold be her own worst enemy at times, she has to let Duncan in at some point, it’s not exactly his fault he didn’t know he was a daddy.
You can’t really lost with a book with such a cutie baby in it! Great read.
A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Duncan and Fiona were best buddies since they met in grade school. This book about the adventure they all take after Duncan is called back home and Fiona finally tells him about their daughter. A few twists to keep you turning pages to see how it all ends. A great series to get.
This friends to lovers romance is Duncan and Fiona’s story and is suspenseful, action packed and a totally engaging read. I love the McKinnon’s and was glad their story continued in this second book of the series. Enjoyed from the first page to the last and can’t wait until the next book!
Another great book from Elle James. She really knows how to write a book. You have plenty of action, ne love, danger and hope. The brothers are still looking for the father. But he has a big surprise when he comes home. Fiona is a deputy sheriff with a 6 month old baby girl. Someone is after Fiona for what she witnessed. Love this series and hope their father is found. A second chance romance and a surprise addition to this family. I haven’t read the first book but this stands alone. There is a running mystery in the background so I’m dying to know how that pans out. These characters were friends for life, could they finally see what everyone else could. Not all smooth sailing, this female cop and the feud with some locals could change her life. Will she survive? I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.
