MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
This is my first book by Renae Brumbaugh Green, so I didn’t read the first book in this series to meet the characters there. But it was good as a stand alone for me. Amelia has lost her fiance a few years back, and another relationship was off limits, so she thought. But maybe it can happen again for her.
I really enjoyed this historical fiction set back in the late 1800’s It was actually set around the time my grandfather was born, which is exciting, but he wasn’t born in Texas! It’s still nice to think about grandaddy as a baby the time if this setting!
I also enjoyed getting to know the the early days of this Texas town. A lot of this story is surrounded by Amelia, and her distrust of the lawmen in town, and the fears she has about another relationship. I really like Evan, and was cheering on a relationship between the two. And as the two spends more time together, their feelings begin to change. And Amelia starts to realize more about God’s faithfulness, forgiveness, and the fact that she needs to let go of her feelings and give them to the Lord. I appreciate the way the author handles this. And I strongly encourage you to pick up a copy of this book and read it. If you e joy a good clean historical fiction, with faith woven in the characters everyday life, you will love this one!

Book two in The Texas Ranger series, Renae Brumbaugh Green’s “Ranger to the Rescue” is a sweet, short read that contains a sufficient element of danger without being too daunting. Because the story opens on the heels of “Lone Star Ranger”, this series is best read in order, but it is not required. In this sequel, Evan Covington is establishing his law practice when he ends up reluctantly working with reporter Amelia Cooper on a case. Their friendship develops into affection, but all hope seems lost when Evan unexpectedly becomes sworn in as a Texas Ranger. As is still the case today, working in law enforcement is a dangerous business, and not every woman is cut out to be or wants to be a lawman’s wife.
“Ranger to the Rescue” is an enjoyable Western tale that makes for a light romantic read. Overall, I liked the story, and I appreciated Amelia’s character the most. She is an intelligent woman making her way in a predominantly male profession, and she is not afraid to take risks in order to get the story because “[s]omehow, she’d thought being a writer was a gentle profession, and she’d fight her battles with a pencil and notepad.” This fortitude, however, does not extend to relationships with men in law enforcement, for personal reasons stemming from her past. She acknowledges early on that “God really was a God of second chances”, and this fact proves ever more true as the plot progresses. I love that Green incorporates sign language into the story, providing a unique element. There are quite a few tropes used in this story, which make it predictable but pleasant nonetheless. One thing that bothered me was the occasional use of modern phrasing by the narrator, which disrupted the flow for me. All in all, however, I recommend “Ranger to the Rescue” to historical fiction readers who enjoy drama and who may be looking to overcome fears of their own. As Amelia learns, “when God offers abundant grace, He also requires abundant faith. From those who claim to be His, He demands a dangerous, rugged devotion. But with that kind of reckless faith come God’s bountiful blessings.”

My Thoughts on Ranger to the Rescue:
Second in a series. I loved the first book in the series so I knew I was going to enjoy this one as well. Meet Amelia. She’s suffered the loss of a fiance who was a lawman and has sworn that she’ll never lose another. Her current beau is a lawyer. Much less danger in his line of work. Or so she thinks.
The life of Evan gets much more interesting when he’s appointed a Texas Ranger. Now Amelia must give up on love because she won’t lose another man she loves to being a lawman. But is she going to have a choice?
Amelia and her sister get kidnapped. Is it because of her society column in the newspaper? Or is something more afoot. Amelia has dreamed of writing front-page news for the paper but she didn’t want to BE the front page news!
Such a fun read! I highly recommend this book and hope that you’ll read it and this whole series. I’m excited to see what will come next.

In 1881 the Texas Rangers were the law throughout the state. Sure there was a Sheriff with a deputy or two in each town, but the Rangers were the ones that took care of the wide open spaces. Book #2 in the Texas Ranger Series brings back some familiar characters as we join them in their latest exploits. Amelia is still trying to get recognized as a real reporter for the Houston Daily. Evan is busy with his law practice. Attraction brings them together, but can they overcome themselves to learn to trust God and not give in to fear?
Be prepared for adventure, danger and a little romance as you join our intrepid reporter and budding lawyer as they get themselves into all sorts of awkward situations. Between alligators, kidnapping and cottonmouths will they manage to escape safely? I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it, even if you haven’t read book #1.
