From the iconic and bestselling author of The Mummy and The Vampire Chronicles, a mesmerizing, glamorous new tale of ancient feuds and modern passions. Ramses the Great, former pharaoh of Egypt, is reawakened by the elixir of life in Edwardian England. Now immortal with his bride-to-be, he is swept up in a fierce and deadly battle of wills and psyches against the once-great Queen Cleopatra. … once-great Queen Cleopatra. Ramses has reawakened Cleopatra with the same perilous elixir whose unworldly force brings the dead back to life. But as these ancient rulers defy one another in their quest to understand the powers of the strange elixir, they are haunted by a mysterious presence even older and more powerful than they, a figure drawn forth from the mists of history who possesses spectacular magical potions and tonics eight millennia old. This is a figure who ruled over an ancient kingdom stretching from the once-fertile earth of the Sahara to the far corners of the world, a queen with a supreme knowledge of the deepest origins of the elixir of life. She may be the only one who can make known to Ramses and Cleopatra the key to their immortality—and the secrets of the miraculous, unknowable, endless expanse of the universe.

Awesome follow up to The Mummy!!! The Mummy was one of my fave books by anne rice only second to interview with the vampire. In this book both anne rice and her son Christopher rice continue the tale of ramses the damned and Cleopatra. Such awesome storytelling from both these amazingly talented writers. Ramses is still haunted by the apparent death of Cleopatra and though he is continuing his life with love and bride to be Julie Stratford and is happy he still feels responsible for not only her tragic death, but also the path of vengeance she wreaked and those she hurt. What he doesn’t know is Cleopatra is alive and still just as savage, but she is weakening and she needs more of the secret elixir to stop whatever is happening to get before it’s too late. These two writers are a great pairing and you can see both their writing styles ,but they blend seamlessly to make a fabulous tale!! So worth waiting for and I hope to read more collaborations from this mother and son team. Until next time luv’s
Wow! Years ago I read a fabulous book by Anne Rice called “The Mummy or Ramses the Damned.” I waited breathlessly for a sequel that never appeared. Now, finally, six years later “Ramses the Damned, The Passion of Cleopatra” has burst upon the scene. IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT.
This book has it all — exciting adventure, suspense, philosophy, mystery, and romance. I hope the next book comes soon!
It is Ann Rice, nothing more to say.
I’ve always loved Anne Rice-up until the religious book, and this one was more like her usual fare thankfully.
Typical Anne Rice but enjoyed reading about Egyptian history and archeology. I felt like the stories couldn’t decide what genre they wanted to be…action/adventure, mythology, mystery or ??
Sequel to Rice’s The Mummy. Follows Cleopatra after her awakening. Ramses and Julie are engaged. An ancient queen emerges who has more knowledge of immortality. Interesting and unexpected situations.
Boring – couldn’t finish
Disappointing
Being a fan of Mrs Rice’s, of course I’m going to say it’s awesome! It’s well written fun fast ride. Characters are realistic and believable. Mrs. Rice has a way of drawimg you into her work. When you stop reading you realize you were pulled right into the heart of the book. All her books have spirits in them that the characters aren’t aware of. It is the reader. Read enjoy andcread again…
While this book doesn’t quite live up to its predecessor, it was still a thrilling sequel. There were some loose ends and plot holes that were never resolved, however, and there was no promise of another book in the series. Entertaining and tragic.
What can I say, I adore Ramses! The Mummy is by-far my favorite book! I waited a long time for a sequel, this isn’t as good as the original (nothing can be). Anne please allow a Ramses the Damned movie! I’ve got the screenplay in my mind.
An underrated Anne Rice. Definitely worth the read.
The book is a page turner…couldn’t put it down.
Loved it~
I had high hopes. The first in the series was awesome. Read it many times. Unfortunately Ms. Rice’s writing abilities have slipped. She could still be great but suffers from a poor editor that lets her get off track and off pace. What a shame. She still is very creative. But needs help with her writing craft. I’m pretty sure I could do a much better job than her current editor as I’ve read almost all of her books and am familiar with her writings before Lasher and afterwards when her writing abilities but not her creativity have slipped over time. Still the book was worth reading and showed many glimpse of the excellent writer she was before time has taken its toll.
I have been an avid Anne Rice fan for 35 years. I have read and re-read everything she has ever published. Her books are well written, backed by meticulous research, and push the reader to contemplate religion, good vs. evil, and the existence of the supernatural. Although I enjoyed the story of The Passion of Cleopatra, this was NOT a typical Anne Rice novel. The book started out slowly, the descriptions and story line were lackluster, and the writing terse and devoid of Rice’s eloquent prose. Rice, as a writer, did not emerge until the last 1/3 of the book. It was very clear that there were two people writing this story. The last part of this novel came alive, in its words, descriptions, characterizations, and challenges to the reader to consider the nuances of love, revenge, good and evil, and of course Rice’s over-arching themes of religion and immortality. When you read an Anne Rice book you are immersed in and experience the world she has created; in this novel, unfortunately I was just a spectator.
Not as good as the first book in the series but still worth a look.
I’m afraid it is overdone….I have read just about every book of Anne Rices, but this is putting an old horse in new clothes. Because I have been such a fan since Lestat I can’t not read her books!
Classic Anne Rice! I read it when it first came out and reading is for the second time just as amazing!
Excellent story. Hope this is the beginning of a new series.
