Charlotte Fairhaven was determined. Her unfaithful husband had been killed over another woman. Stangely that woman helped her to see how much she could enjoy being a widow with not ties..But there was a man that declared his love and would not leave her alone.
One thing leads to another and she ends up in a Scottish Castle. When she meets the Lord of the manor, she thinks he is just a boor and arrogant.
A wonderful story that I could not put down once I started. A lot of great humor had me laughing out loud and smiling. The journey to true love was definitely not smooth but worth taking. Love it!
Rake Ruiner- The Marriage Maker and the Widows” by Summer Hanford is a tale of one Charlotte Fairhaven ….a recent widow from a love -less marriage….who is swamped with unwanted…undesired suitors…who make her high-tail it to the Scottish Highlands to escape their fawning “affections”…..and low and behold THERE….she unwittingly runs smack into the MOST annoying…irritating…BEAST of a male she has EVER encountered! One that surely will put her new-found freedom at risk…not to mention her heart. Lord Edward Waverly himself…has NEVER seen such a woman as Charlotte…unseemly…and waaaayyy to independent…and shockingly sensual…he MUST have her…BUT will she have him?!? In a battle of wills is a HEA ….EVEN …possible?!? Read & See!! Much enjoyed and Highly Recommended. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book.

I absolutely fell in love with this book. It truly touched my heart…. it just goes to show that you can find love in times and places where you would least expect it. This piece was very intriguing, and was full of many unexpected turns. I would love to read more works by Summer and I will be keeping my eye open for more of her pieces. I would recommend this book to others.
Part of the Marriage Maker series this is yet another pretty quick read. These have all been fairly good books that can usually be read in less than a day if you have the time. Can be read as stand alone’s.
After Lady Charlotte Fairhaven’s husband was killed in a duel over another woman she decided to live her life as she wanted, even if it was wicked. After breaking yet another rake’s heart, she is approached by Sir Stirling James and is given an offer to go to Caithness for several months in the hopes that her latest spurned lover would give up his intention to wed her.
Lord Edward Waverly did not realize that Lady Charlotte was so very young. And he most definitely disapproves of her ways. But yet he has wanted her since the moment he saw her. What will become of them?

Lady Charlotte, widowed by a duel has decided she loves her freedom and has no desire for commitments, just fun. Her current Rake has just spoiled it all by proposing, so she flees to a place recommended by a friend. The landlord is a burly and distataseful Scot, and then a love/hate relationship turns into an unwanted love. Interesting plot and loved the Baron.

Wit and Chemistry Make This a Fun Read
This is the third book of the Marriage Maker series that I have read. I wasn’t so wild about the other two because I felt they were simply too short to get the story that the author wanted to tell across. Luckily, I found this book to be much better; coincidentally, it is significantly longer than the other two, allowing the story more room to breathe. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book, given my reaction to the other two. Ms. Hanford has a way with humor that actually had me laughing as I read. I thought the conversations between the hero and heroine sparkled with wit; the chemistry sizzles off the page. I found the first sections before the heroine got to a remoter part of Scotland to be so amusing as well. The heroine is determined to remain single after the death of her husband—he died in a duel fighting over another woman—and she is determined to live a life of pleasure, never becoming shackled to a man again. So the book opens with quite a dilemma for her. Her English lover, whom she had thought was perfect for her because of English aloofness and coldness, turns out to be violently in love with her, declares his feelings, and asks for her hand. The heroine is not interested in this at all, but the gentleman is persistent. The way this is done between them is so humorous. There actually were parts where I did laugh out loud. Things get even more interesting as she retreats deeper into the Scottish Highlands, essentially house sitting at a remote castle for a friend. However, it does come with a baron, the hero, and at first, they were like oil and water. But it was fun to watch as it only got more intense. If you like your historical romance with wit, humor, and some twists that keep it interesting, you may very well enjoy this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Book one in The Marriage Maker and the Widows series a well written story that kept me turning pages. This series is written by different Authors each story is unique. This is widow Charlotte Fairhaven and Lord Edward’s story. I want to read more in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A grandfather takes a chance.
Charlotte’s dead husband was a total jerk come on fighting a duel over another woman its no wonder she turns away for love. Edward is our other feature character a married man and he falls in love with Charlotte can you see how that may cause of bit of a problem. This book has some intense moments and the author has done a wonderful job of writing. I am looking forward to Samuel’s story. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Charlotte Fairhaven was enjoying Samuel Rivington, her English lover who was visiting Scotland. She wished she had thought of Englishmen before – their cold and aloof nature took the silly emotional part out of the experience and kept things just the way she wanted them. When her husband died in a duel over another woman, Charlotte abandoned ideas of love in favor of something more reliable – pleasure. After all, it was important not to have a man fall in love with her and ruin their affair with an offer of marriage. Strangely, the woman her husband had died over had become her mentor in how to enjoy widowhood in this manner. Vivian often gave her sage advice. But when she murmured to Rivington that he was “perfect” – referring to his cold, emotionless nature – he thought she was expressing feelings for him, and that was exactly what he wanted to hear! Why did they always make her break their heart? She got up and told him to leave. When he used the word “love”, it was most assuredly over, since her husband had constantly used the word while he was out dallying with countless women.
When flowers, jewelry, and a choir of singing children began to arrive every hour from her latest conquest, she called her carriage and quickly went to Vivian’s townhome. Vivian told her she would have to marry Rivington since he would not give up. But Charlotte’s own set of “rules” would not allow her to marry any man she did not love – and love was the most unlikely of possibilities – ever! As they talked, a maid announced Sir Stirling James – but he was only there to ask Charlotte to consider renting a manor outside a little village in Caithness (equivalent to the “ends of the Earth”), then spending the remainder of spring on through summer and into autumn there. Only by being totally out of Rivington’s reach will he then perhaps stop pursuing her. Sir Stirling was one of the most noble men she knew of, and he never cheated on his wife, so she trusted him and agreed to go. The only odd thing in the letter Sir Stirling sent her on how to get there was the paragraph that said some spaces are to be avoided and those rooms are locked, by order of the owner, Lord Edward Waverly, Baron of Gaoth. What did that mean? Why locked?
They arrived, not at a “lovely manor” but a splendid, perfectly kept, Scottish castle! Every detail, inside and outside, was perfect! With no one around, she explored until she came to a locked door. She felt around the top of the door for a key, then searched the vases on either side of the door until she found a key and let herself into the room. It was a lovely ballroom and her imagination soared until an angry shout frightened her. A man in a kilt with dead weasels strapped to his waist glared at her and demanded why she was there. She guessed he was a farmer and had no right to speak to her like that! She told him to leave and, after glaring at her, he bowed and left, telling her to remember to lock the doors. She sought out the young man, Tom McAullum, who had met them and asked who she could talk to about more staff for her needs, but was informed Sir Edward would handle that. Again, she pitied him for his limited funds that he took in renters and had no one to handle these things. And that he had a Highland barbarian farmer wandering his home! She attended a community gathering he had arranged at a neighbor’s home. Mrs. Neville introduced her to everyone else, then sent her out into the garden to meet Lord Edward whose back was to her. He was dressed in the height of fashion, and when he spoke as he turned, she saw the barbarian farmer in front of her and asked where she could find Lord Edward. At that, he bowed and said, “At your service.” Here was the Baron of Gaoth, then, and not a wayward farmer as she had thought, and instead now saw him as a boorish, arrogant, penniless, backwater Highland lord.
This book was excellent, the dialog between Edward and Charlotte amusing and perfect! Misunderstanding leading to incorrect assumptions is the key theme here! Mrs. Neville’s telling Charlotte that Edward had two daughters, but the wife had been gone for many years, had her assuming he was a widower and not still married. This sets the story line up for even further complications as one of her steadfast rules was not to fall for a married man. Grab your copy of this wonderful book and enjoy the bumpy ride these two will have in order to find a HEA.
