The new Discworld novel, the 40th in the series, sees the Disc’s first train come steaming into town. Change is afoot in Ankh-Morpork. Discworld’s first steam engine has arrived, and once again Moist von Lipwig finds himself with a new and challenging job.
There isn’t a Terry Prachett book I don’t love. He is a little twisted, but always timely. If you haven’t read his Disc World series you are missing out on some fun reading (like laugh out loud). Also, this is probably not the first book you should read in the series (Start with The Color of Magic). He addresses political topics in sideways …
This was one of Pratchett’s last books. He looks hopefully ahead as a new technology, the steam engine, brings his citizens of Discworld even closer together. An uplifting read during difficult times.
Warning: This isn’t his most daring, intense, danger filled story. It’s not edge of your seat action with the villain close on your heels. And you …
This was the first Terry Pratchett book that I stopped reading after the first few chapters. I love his books and was surprised to found one that I just struggled to get into and failed. I even love trains and was still completely bored by this book. I love ya Mr. Pratchett but I just didn’t like it.
This is a later Discworld book starring Moist. It introduces progress to the Discworld and shows both the benefits and problems caused by it.
This book is one of Terry Pratchett’s weakest books. We got to see within Lord Vetinari’s mind, which was different from other Discworld books. However, it’s a book about how transportation dramatically changes cities. I liked re-reading it.
Any visit to Discworld is a good trip. We learn things about the real world from funhouse mirror reflections. If you look real hard you may see yourself.
This particular offering by the late-great Mr. Pratchett was a wonderful read, in my opinion. I’ve seen other reviews where people lamented that his declining health was clearly showing in this book saying things like “it wasn’t as funny…” or “…it felt like this was his farewell to the fans…” etc. A lot of this is understandable considering the …
Nothing happens. I think it only exists to give cameos to every character in the entire series.
Terry as usual throws a wrench into the world and comes back with a horse. Is as fun to read as always.
Classic Terry Pratchet British Humor
Top notch
Given the title and subject, I was tempted to add “steamy”!
The character of Moist von Lipwig is one of Pratchett’s less endearing characters, but enjoyable nonetheless.
I love this world and the odd characters who live there!
Terry Pratchett was one in a million, with amazing imagination, and character-building. Always able to make me laugh… and turn the page, to see what comes next.
Another great one from Gilliam.
Humor that makes you think. (And no typos, grammatical mistakes, incorrect choice of homonyms…)
Just love Terry Pratchett! And his character Moist Von Lipwig is awesome!!
Steam and Goblins!
Sit Terry Pratchett never fails. The funniest , most inventive satirical fantasy writer ever.
