And for Book 2 in the series, which does pick up where Book 1 ended, except not. Each book in the series can stand on its own. What’s the fun in that, especially as we delve deeper into this world of magic that co-exists within our own. I love the characters even more in rhis book and totally appreciate their efforts to keep magic out of the wrong hands, stomp out…or down…evil, all while keeping us mere humans oblivious to their world and its goings on. Things, really creepy demonic things, go bump in the night and day. How they keep those crazy critters in check is fun, entertaining, and in many moments, totally badass and a bit haunting to boot. Vampires, fairies, elves werewolves, witches, mages, demons dragons, unicorns, yes UNICORNS, and more are all real. Through her charcters, Breene skillfully guides the reader through normalizing the ecistence of all these creatures and the realm of magic and nightmares.
There is a great build to the last book that totally delivers and nearly satisfied my need to know it all and had me engrossed in Book 3 in no time.
Just finished this second in the trilogy. I read the first a year ago, and while I liked this one fine, I think the first might have been better. Vampires, mages, demons and Reagan Somerset (the heir to the Underworld)…lots of exciting adventures, a new power to master and a deepening connection with Darius. Looking forward to reading the last in the series.
I really enjoy K.F Breenes world building. There isn’t a whole lot of romance in these stories which normally would turn me off the book but the fact these stories are jam packed with all kinds of crazy… I really don’t find myself missing it.
Reagan’s story continues on in book two with a whole lot of crazy, unpredictable and outrageous.
She’s a really strong heroines with a tonne of wit and she’s fast at dishing out the snark which I LOVE. I feel like her full potential is yet to be released but I’m enjoying the build up for whats to come and I feel like her character has me completely drawn in waiting and wanting more.
Also the darius the hero is a very interesting character who has me all kinds of curious and wanting. I’m excited to see where their romantic journey leads them. Especially because of the many road blocks in their way.
Also side characters… I am loving the awesome twosome Callie and Dizzy and I’m very intrigued about Penny and her growing powers too.
The journey has been crazy and more secrets have been revealed with even more sneaky hints being dropped at future possibilities. I can’t say I have all my thoughts in order just yet because I haven’t got the full story yet but I feel like the build up and pace of the journey is perfect so far and it has me so excited for what is to come.
If you love a good descriptive world with big personalities and a whole lot of crazy then this is definitely for you. Now I’m going on to book 3 so I can get some more answers.
Action and fight scenes fill this second book. Reagan fights Darius’s advances, but even though she sounds firm, she doesn’t come across as if no is the final answer. She even ends up fighting with herself. Is this new power a good thing, or not. Guess we will have to wait and see.
Reagan loves to kick doors and butt she is a take no prisoners kind of gal. Trouble is when she wants people left alive they seem to expire on her watch. After agreeing to go to Seattle to help with a series of killings to call forth demons Reagan finds out that the mages are yet again behind the killings. As usual Darius is by her side, he can not seem to stay away. Both Darius and Reagan find themselves knee deep in amongst trouble, Reagan’s favourite kind. Not to be left behind Callie and Dizzy insist on being there to help Reagan. Reagan is known for her crazy, sassy, butt kicking action. Throw in a dash of sarcasm and a little bit of romance and you will find yourself being drawn into their world and going along for the ride with these characters that you have come to love. As usual with KF’s writing I found myself laughing and cheering and enjoying the story.
Another awesome book. I’ve read a lot of books by Breene and enjoyed all of them but these by far are my favorite. That’s why I’ve read them twice.
Hilarious Snark, Murderous Mages & Demons!!
Romance Is Brewing.
Raised in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 2)
Reagan is back with a bang, a door kicking, a demon slaying, a human face punching and it’s only day one! Along with her new mage friends she goes on a contracted job to Seattle for the Police. Someone is skinning people alive then dumping the bodies. They need a magical person to help as their MLE office hasn’t gotten anywhere. During the investigation it comes to light things aren’t exactly what they seem. It’s a higher level demon than expected & is it laying traps to test Reagan?
Darius is being very honest about his needs. He knows he isn’t acting normally for an elder vampire but can’t help himself! Reagan is fighting her attraction to him but the butterflies & heart flutters are annoying her! Callie & Dizzy reach out to Penny, the cupboard hider from book #1. She agrees to help them in the final fight. Will Reagan & co be able to take out such a high level demon?
A wonderfully funny & intense read. It’s steamy & exciting. We’re getting to know more about Reagan & Darius & I’m liking them more and more. Her friends in the street are quirky as hell. Callie, Dizzy & Penny are joys. I can’t wait for more.

(Fire & Ice Trilogy 2) Raised in Fire by K. F. Breene Review, 02/06/2021
“You are wearing a leather outfit with a sword, gun, and fanny pack strapped to your person. What about that look says nice girl?”
“I probably will see humor in someone kicking your ass. But I promise to avenge you right after I stop laughing.”

My Rating:
An important note on Review spoilers. Back button to return here.
Recommended 3.5 star paranormal romance novel. That description and rating doesn’t suit though as the romancee is a woman bounty hunter who stops bad magical people, beings, and demons. She’s called in when the supernatural cops and others
who deal with these things find themselves against something truly unholy. I sort of think of her as a special woman “Dog the Bounty Hunter”.
I did mention romance. It’s not one of those hot and spicy novels that leaves you craving love or sex but it isn’t entirely void of some hot spots. You see, in the last novel a super powerful and very old vampire accidentally fell for
her. Or one can deduce from the way he acts towards her. But with vampires, motives can be… let’s just say political now that everyone clearly understands what that means.
Generally:
This is the second book in the series of possibly 6 or more books.
Reagan Somerset, is our protagonist heroic supernatural bounty hunter. This novel would have 3 sections, 4 with the Epilogue.
In the first section, Reagan is working for the local magic police force, now she has papers provided by her vampire elder ‘suitor’ as a result of a completed task in the previous novel.
Seems her biggest annoyance is trying to ‘one-up’ the local ‘hero boy’ in the local magical police office.. You know the guy. Idiot with some skills, moderate good looks, insecurity that can’t overcome his black hole of an
ego, but he can make other idiots believe that he walks on water.
Reagan has a temper. She likes kicking down doors. But she’s assaulted ‘pretty boy’ so many times she should be fired. The Captain keeps upping the number of “write-ups” before she must be fired. The captain is also thwarting
her anger management by installing stronger and stronger doors to kick down.
I mention because it’s kind of a fun read too.
In the first section, a coworker asks her to help out in a case. It builds to the point where HELL has heard a rumor Lucifer may have an heir. The rumor is some faction in hell is trying to figure this out. A powerful demon Agnon***
sends an evil Aswang (yeah, I don’t know) to determine if this is true.
So we start with a little “helping a friend” investigate a crime, which devolves into a near death all out war type of conclusion. Then this happens again two more times when she’s hired by Seattle to help with a strange case…

What attracts me most to this serie is the great ability of K.F. to show both sides of the characters, since everybody has good and evil, and their free will to choose one according to their nature; the fragility of people when facing love, their fears of letting it happen; the fear of facing their true origin; above all, the way the writer narrates all this fantastic world. Let’s see what the future brings to Reagan and to Darius.
Ohhh how things are getting HOT in this book!
And the mystery unravels! We find out more and more about Reagan’s powers and why she is so important. Her and Darius relationship finally takes the plunge (finally!) but she’s not given in completely to his wishes! She’s still holding back a little! hehe
We meet the young mage from book 1 again and find out she’s quite powerful, it’s a good thing she’s decided to get on the Reagan train hehe.
Our happy dizzy married couple plays a huge part in Reagan’s life now and together Darius, Reagan & the mage duo must find and destroy ‘Agnon’ – a demon who’s very interested in Reagan…
The romance escalates which was nice – it’s not very graphic though, it concentrates more on how they are feeling vs. the explicit act itself. More playboy than erotica. It was new to me, and though I’m a sucker for the details and a thorough lover of erotica – I had no issues with it, it was still great and left me with a smile on my face.
Vlad is up to no good I thinks! So we wanna keep an eye on him…Darius finally opens up about his age and the circumstances of his turning – slightly heartbreaking, I felt so bad for him, but it was nice to get more history about him.
This book was not AS good as the first one, but I still think it deserves 5*. The story continues and Reagan is still “learning on the go” in relation to her powers, there are lots she still doesn’t know about it so I can’t wait to read the final book Fused in Fire (Fire and Ice Trilogy Book 3)!
KF Breene does not disappoint. I simply love her sass and snark that she puts in to her characters, and I will have to say that Reagan has the most out of all her characters. It just makes these books stand out in the crowd. I highly recommend reading the first book in the series first or you’ll be completely lost. I love how Breene does not spend the first few chapters rehashing what happened in the last book. This is also a mature adult book because of the language and graphic (and exquisite) romance scenes that finally come to fruition between the two main characters. If you enjoy Breene’s Darkness series, you will love this too.
The main key characters established in Born in Fire return for this sequel, while adding a few more secondary characters. All key characters are well developed by now, and she marvelously develops them further. I also love the twist that she’s given to the series in having the main character, Reagan, become more an intermediary between the human police department and the magical one. It takes more of a detective spin on the story which I loved reading about. She’s developed the storyline in a way that Reagan could plausibly apply her past experiences as a bounty hunter to apply to her new role. I also appreciated the change in scenery as someone who comes from the state of Washington. The suspense builds throughout the book and although the final conflict is a bit predictable, it’s still very enjoyable to read. And Breene throws in a final twist in the epilogue that spins the story in a thrilling new way. All in all, this is another great piece from Breene and I already cannot wait for the next book in the series to be released.
The Fire and Ice Trilogy was my first exposure to K.F. Breene, and now she is one of my favorite authors. Definitely start with book one and read them in order for the best reading experience.
(Cannot be read as a standalone.)
I’m addicted to this series. Loved the steamy romance, action, and memorable characters.
Reagan’s life is becoming more complicated by the minute. Demons finding her identity, vampires playing politics, evil mages, and unknown powers coming to light.
A must read!
The middle book of a trilogy is always transitional in nature which often means it’s a bit weaker than the first and last books. That’s true here. Reagan tries going ‘straight’ and working for the magical police, but her annoying co-worker gets on her nerves and she keeps punching him out. So after killing an aswang that demons sent for her, and punching Garrett for the 5th time, she quits and takes a consulting gig in Seattle. Little did she know dual mages Callie and Dizzy were determined to tag along and Darius Durant, the sexy vamp who keeps meddling in her life arranges to be a part of it. The oversrcing plot is advanced, but parts of the story drag a bit. Still one of the best reads in a while with memorable characters.
Book 2 in the Fire & Ice Trilogy, and just, wow, this was so good!!
Reagan is back with her sass and bad ass attitude, and I just love her!! Her unique talents are under scrutiny in this book, with people just starting to learn how valuable she may well be. She herself is as of yet unaware of just how much talent she has, which is growing all the time, and which she has serious trouble controlling. Couple that with her kickass talents, her snark and humour and you have a wonderful heroine – I have a big grin on my face when reading these books, I just love the humour and sass!!
Darius, the unbelievably handsome elder vampire is back also, in fact he just can’t keep away from her. His desire to protect her having grown and she has wormed her way into his emotions (if vampires have any) where non have previously gotten.
I love how their relationships builds and blooms in this book, their chemistry is off the charts and they just ooze with sexual tension whenever they are together. Fabulous!!
They’re up against some tough competition in this book and need to pull together to get through it. The storyline is great, with a mix of humans, vampires, mages and demons. Fast paced with lots of action, I loved this and couldn’t put it down!!
Another brilliant book by KF Breene, I can’t wait for the final installment to see how it all turns out – highly recommended PNR reading here!!
I haven’t laughed at violence in a long time but Reagen’s animosity for & punching Garrett had me rolling…each time! Good story with plenty of action, complicated relationships, wit, & humor. There were a few interactions at the beginning that felt forced but not enough to distract from the story. Overall loved the book and am looking forward to the next!
