The book that broke Clive Cussler out. We now know, of course, that what was proposed was an impossibility given the state of the ship, but we didn’t know it then. The story I heard years ago was that a copy of manuscript was lying on an editor’s desk and someone walking by saw the title and was intrigued and the buzz started. One thing I constantly teach is that title is the #1 marketing tool you have control over as an author.
That’s on top of the fact it was a great idea. RIP Clive.
This was the first Clive Cussler book I ever read and I have actually gone back and read it again. Dirk Pitt and his cohorts from NUMA are working to raise the Titanic, literally. Many dangerous twists and turns await them as they work deep beneath the ocean.
Don’t even bother with the movie because it does not even begin to do justice to the book. I know the book is old and a lot of the technology is outdated, but it still is a great read.
One of my favorite Cussler novels. “Raise the Titanic” is filled with lots of tension and intrigue. The characters are diverse and well rounded. The story has it’s fair share of twist and turns. I have to admit it was a much slower read for me, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the read.
If anyone were to ask me which Cussler book to start with, this would be the one I would recommend.
This was the first Clive Cussler book I ever read, and since then I have become a fan of his work . Action packed, memorable characters and fast paced. Tough to put this book down. Highly recommended!
I really loved reading this book
Raise the Titanic! by Clive Cussler
Book starts out in 1900’s and it’s the night of the sinking Titanic where a man aboard knows the ship hit the iceberg and will sink as he goes to where he’s stored the element that was mined that will be needed for future war projects.
Story follows a lot of different groups: one who finds the horn-the horn that was played on the Titantic, Sicilian project, money paid to survivors from miners who died in the past, other private groups that are funded from the government, the President who pursuades others to do things they don’t really want to do and a lot more in different countries.
There is so much action and adventure, never mind the mystery surrounding it all. Bit of romance and you have a well rounded book for everybody.
Byzantium is the special mineral that everybody wants a piece of. two month submersible that can stay under water for more than 2 months time might just be the answer they need to get the minerals.
Thing that amazes me is that this book was written before they even located the Titanic so this is quite the story about it all.
Just when things are on an even keel a hurricane is in the area…
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
Great Clancy!
Love the Dirk Pitt series!!! Funny and exciting and you can close your eyes and put yourself in the middle of some of the action!
Found Raise the Titanic on a table in a hospital waiting room and started reading. I was hooked…that was the kind of book my dad read…what the f*&k? Had to admit to my husband I had fallen in love with another man, Dirk Pitt. Needless to say he was relieved to find out it the man was a character from a book. Name any Cussler book and I’ve read it . Loved some more than others, but the first one is always special!
This was the first book that I read by this author and have been a fan of his ever since. I mourn his passing. I have so many of his books that I will read them again to get my adventure fix.
this author has it all. He is fantastic.
I am a great Cussler fan. As with all of his books this one has a great story, interesting characters and unexpected twists and turns.
I really enjoy Clive Cussler books. They are well written- this man knows how to write a sentence! I love the description of the ocean, and the technology used in the stories. I highly recommend this book , and this author!
The first book I ever read of Cussler’s and have read every one of his books since. He has a way of writing that keeps you coming back for more. I love the way he brings history into every book he writes and makes me want to know more . I highly recommend any book he has written other than the Isaac Bell series of which always seemed a little far fetched to me.
My first ever Dirk Pit book. Been a fan since.
Dated now. But a great book for the time it was written
Great book!
Made me a fan of Dirk Pitt! The movie pales beside the story as is often true. This is the one that really launched Clive Cussler’s career.
Clive Cussler never fails to entertain. Fans will not be disappointed with this tome.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book in the 1970’s when it first came out. I enjoyed the movie also. Love all Clive Cussler’s books.
