Ty Benson is tall, dark, delicious – and done with women. As the singer for the iconic rock band Raincheck, Ty is sick of women chasing after him. He’s sworn off relationships, enjoying the simplicity that celibacy brings. Until he meets Liv Madison. She’s completely – and maddeningly – uninterested in him. And it’s seriously turning him on. Stuck together on Raincheck’s Summer Tour, Ty is … is trying to stay away from her. But it’s getting harder every day.
Liv Madison just wants to work on her Master’s thesis and have some fun this summer. Which is the exact reason she’s tagging along as her best friend Gabe performs on Raincheck’s tour. Ty Benson, however, seems to have other plans for her. As annoying as he is gorgeous, Ty just won’t leave her alone. And it’s affecting her relationship with Gabe – in a completely unexpected way.
Can Ty convince Liv to give him a chance? Or will her friendship with Gabe turn into so much more?

This book wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t great – it was just kind of….meh. For the most part, Marlo Lanz’ writing was well done, though there were a few times the punctuation went wonky and things became sentence fragments that shouldn’t have been. The characters were all kind of batsh*t, doing psychotic things (so many examples I don’t even know where to start) and also not being all that bothered when psychotic things are being done to them. Of course, this leads to never-ending facepalm-level melodrama. But the thing that really threw me for a loop here was that Raincheck actually seemed like two different stories joined together at the middle: the first half, everyone is a rock star and they’re on tour and being famous; the second half, everyone is a grad student and teaching college classes? It’s just really incongruous.
TL;DR: The writing is fine, the characters are bonkers, the plot needs work.

This book is about a girl and a rocker. Sounds like many other books, right? Not Really. This book takes the typical rocker romance and throws in a best friend turned fake boyfriend, a tour bus, and some crazy misunderstandings to keep you thinking the entire time you are reading. Right from the beginning I was wondering what the heck was going to happen next. No matter the feelings of those involved, it looked hopeless. Then things would change, and they would look even more hopeless. I was beginning to think things would never work out. But this is a romance, and what is a romance without a HEA, right?
Ty is a not so typical rocker. He is genuinely a good guy, with a crappy past. He is so confused about what he wants. He doesn’t know why Liv affects him the way he does. He doesn’t understand why he feels compelled to be around her (stalker, much? Just kidding, kind of.) But the more he is around her, the more he likes what he sees.
Liv is a woman who knows what she wants, and isn’t afraid to work for it. But she has no luck with guys. After a less than impressive first meeting with Ty, and then the whole boyfriend that isn’t really a boyfriend fiasco, it doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
This book seems to be one comedic error after another. I couldn’t help but laugh, even though at the same time I felt bad for Liv and Ty.
This is the first book written by Marlo Lanz, which I totally enjoyed. I’m looking forward to seeing what else this fantastic new author comes out with.
