This is my first time reading a book from the One Scoop or Two series. This was a very sweet and enjoyable read. The story was well-written and flowed nicely. The plot was interesting and had some plot twists and turns that made this an interesting and intriguing story. The characters were strong and well-developed. The author did a nice job of bringing this story to life with vivid descriptions and well-developed scenes. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Part of the wonderful One Scoop or Two series, this book fulfills a need like a really well put together sundae. Kudos to the author for giving the world a love story about two ‘experienced’ people who have already each had to face the death of a long-time spouse.
Written with grace and dignity, this book resonates romance tempered with common sense and understanding. Gloriana and Nathan are a terrific couple. The attraction is instantaneous, but they are mature enough to realize that you look before you leap. They do leap of course; they just are thoughtful enough to realize that is the next logical step when the time is right.
The overarching theme of rainbows carries the book with an almost mystical style. Well written, very readable, cute, romantic, and funny. This is a wonderful little read. I recommend this book to every fan of Hallmark books and/or movies. I also recommend this to all fans of the One Scoop or Two series. A great summer read for all.
My Rating: 5+ stars
Gloriana Jones still loves and misses her deceased husband, but she’s doing her best to move on and live their dream—owning a successful ice cream shop. Then a handsome man wanders into her shop to escape the storm blasting the area. For the first time in years, she feels the tingle of attraction.
Nathan James’s car breaks down unexpectedly in the middle of a storm, and the ice cream shop is the only building lit up on the street. He takes refuge there, never imagining he would meet a woman who could fill the hole in his heart.
This is a super sweet story about living life after loss and falling in love again. Gloriana and Nathan are wonderful and real characters, and they’re dealing with their emotional issues and stresses with poise and strength. I haven’t read many stories with older characters (she’s 45, and he’s 50), so this was a treat.
All the mentions of ice cream definitely got me hungry for some, so make sure your freezer is stocked before you read this story.
5 Stars
Rainbow Sprinkles is a light-hearted romance about second loves, hope, and miracles. Gloriana and her “Rainbow Man” are down-to-earth and relatable even though they are caught in a whirlwind “love-at-first-sight” romance. They are vulnerable under their strong exteriors which makes them instantly likeable. The interactions between Rainbow Man and his grown-up daughter were my favorite part of the book. The candid conversations about moving on after a lost love were so tender. This is the type of book where you stop reading to hug it and absorb all the warm fuzzies. I highly recommend this book for hopeless romantics, like myself, who believe true love can strike twice in a lifetime.
This was a fun, feel-good read I loved. Just the ticket for a hot summer day where ever you are. Warning: you’ll want an ice cream cone. Feel free to indulge. LOL
Gloriana owns an ice cream shop, which was her and her late husband’s dream. She forges ahead with the business.
On a trip to see his new granddaughter, his car breaks down and a storm blows in. Was it fate that made him run for cover into an ice cream shop owed by a mesmerizing woman? Will love get a second chance? Find out. Pick up a copy of this quick, heartwarming summer read I highly recommend!
Sweet Older Adult Romance
This is a sweet, quick, love-at-first-sight novella. The hero and heroine meet as he ducks in from a downpour, needing to wait for a tow truck since his car died. The two have fun, though sometimes clumsy, time—both physically and verbally—as they wait out the storm and get to know each other. Rainbows are a repeating motif in the story, and that starts right at the beginning. The couple is middle-aged and both widowed. He is passing through on his way to visit his new granddaughter. She’s a former corrections officer, newly retired and new owner of an ice cream parlor, something she and her husband had dreamed about when they retired. How will this new relationship—and they both feel drawn to each other despite being unsure because of guilt because of their dead spouses—work out, especially since they live in two different states?
While there isn’t really much plot to the 16K-word story, I found the characters sweet and endearing and loved seeing them figure out their conflicted feelings and their distance issue. Even though this is a novella, the secondary characters were well drawn, too, especially the hero’s adult daughter and even the women who were formerly a part of the heroine’s crew. I wonder if the author will write stories about any of those unattached ladies. I loved all the symbolism of the rainbows and the rain; the way they were so thoughtful and respectful toward each other was charming—all you want fictional (and real) love to be. All in all, I found this to be a very pleasant, perfect-for-summer romantic read.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
A sweet romance for your summer beach/lake days, Rainbow Sprinkles takes you to Lake Unami in the northern hills of New Jersey. The heroine who is a widow, Gloriana Jones (a glorious name), has just retired and invested all of her savings into her dream ice cream shop called Rainbow Sprinkles. On a rain-soaked day, in walks head-turning Nathan Jones and the summer has just turned hotter – in a sweet way. Ms. Stone’s characters are real—the type you’d like to know personally. Throughout the story you’ll be rooting for Gloriana and Nathan to overcome life’s tragedies and find their way to each other. A wonderful summer romance!
I loved everything about this story. From the characters names, Gloriana and Nathan, to the truly ethereal, rainwashed cover, this story, a deft mixture of reality and light fantasy, spoke to me.
Ms. Stone has a talent for writing everyday people who are fascinating and unique while exhibiting the strong thread of the common humanity and yearning for love that unites us all.
The stormy weather setting drew me in as I snuggled under a light quilt to discover Gloriana and Nathan’s life struggles and romantic history. And yes, I had my own small cup of ice cream at hand with—you guessed it, rainbow sprinkles on top.
Part of the One Scoop or Two a well written short story, by an Author I have not read before. Widower Nathan James meets widowed Gloriana Jones when his car breaks down in Lake Unami. This is an older couple story, and I loved it. I recommend this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Rainbow Sprinkles: I loved the title! It was a great second chance at love. I loved how Nathan and Gloriana met and how the sparks happened. I loved how rain, rainbows, and ice cream brought them together. Great writing, dialog, and storytelling. I loved that Gloriana took a chance at her dream of the ice cream shop and at love for the second time in her life. They might have lost their first love but it never means you can’t find love again. Nathan was a very special man and he really knew how to treat a lady. It was just a wonderful book.
What could be better than ice cream and love?
I loved the fact that Gloriana had a full, happy life before she met Nathan. She had a strong network of friends and a job that brought her a great deal of joy. This is something I always adore seeing in the romance genre, especially for characters who have painful experiences in their backstories. Knowing that she’d already rebuilt her life after a tragedy only made me more curious to see how she’d react to the idea of falling in love again.
As great as the chemistry was between Gloriana and Nathan, I was startled by how quickly their relationship moved. Both of them seemed to be cautious and sensible adults, so it came as a shock to me to see how they reacted to their first date. I would be wary of anyone who tried to get so lovey-dovey with me that fast. While I totally understand that everyone has their own comfort levels when it comes to developing intimacy with a potential new partner, it sure would have been helpful to have more character development here so I could see if this was a pattern for them or if it was something they’d normally never do.
Just like with Stracciatella Gelato: Melting Time, this tale existed happily in the grey area between the fantasy and romance genres. I once again appreciated the fact that it had such a light touch. That was the perfect way to speak to a wide variety of readers and let everyone decide for themselves who or what might have gently nudged these characters into crossing paths.
This is part of the One Scoop or Two series. It is a standalone work.
Rainbow Sprinkles was a sweet treat that I’d recommend to anyone who is in the mood for something lighthearted.
