In this #1 New York Times bestselling John Clark thriller, author Tom Clancy takes readers into the shadowy world of anti-terrorism and gets closer to reality than any government would care to admit… Ex-Navy SEAL John Clark has been named the head of Rainbow, an international task force dedicated to combating terrorism. In a trial by fire, Clark is confronted with a violent chain of seemingly … violent chain of seemingly separate international incidents. But there is no way to predict the real threat: a group of terrorists like none the world has ever encountered, a band of men and women so extreme that their success could literally mean the end of life on earth as we know it.

This is perhaps John Clark’s finest adventure! Now a simulated General, our “dark side Jack Ryan” assembles an international team of elite soldiers and train them to tackle terrorism, unaware that by doing so he has stumbled upon a conspiracy of global proportions.
Tom Clancy does it again: top-notch military action, precise to a fault, and very competent. What else can I say about this book? Even following the antagonists’ side of the story is fascinating. The quintessential page-turner, impossible to put down. All the training exercises our heroes go through, the actual moments of anti-terrorist action, the globe-trotting action, even the quaint vivacity of their adapting to life in the United Kingdom, plus John Clark having to deal with aging — all great fun!
If there’s one thing that a reader could say against this book is that the Rainbow Six teams that Tom Clancy creates and describes are so damn good that some of the missions by the end of the book end up being rather easy. But that’s not a problem out of bad writing, quite the contrary: the author sets up the events so very well that it would’ve felt artificial if he suddenly changed the rules of his own game for the sake of cheap “boss battles”.
I can’t wait to read more adventures of Rainbow Six and his crack-team of anti-terrorist operatives.
OK. Bad first and warning. The F word is used often. So 5* to 4* rating.
That said, the story line is intriguing. You feel for the characters and wonder how it will work out until the very end.
Probably not the best choice of reading material as the COVID vaccine is being rolled out….. not many writers of Tom Clancy’s quality…he is missed.
Great John Clark story.
Early Clancy book excellent read!
Fast paced, Typical Clancy
Easy read, entertaining and action-packed!
Excellent story, very captivating events.
Not Clancy’s best but very readable.
The story is somewhat interesting, but this is the book that put me off Clancy for good. His handling of the environmentalists/scientists was so anti-science it was unbelievable. The so-called scientists held ideas that no self-respecting scientist would. Yeah, I get that Clancy is a conservative, but this was just too over the top. I have really liked Clancy’s earlier work, but the later works? Meh.
A typical Clancy book. A page turnet
Not the best of his books.
I am a big fan of Tom Clancy and his John Clark character and this was a great way to focus on him within the Jack Ryan universe.
Classic Tom Clancey
Eco terrorists meet a well deserved fate.
Clancy must have been able to see into the future… 2020 being the future.
Best one ever. Recommend it highly if you like intrigue.
Great characters, follow them from book to book.
It’s Clancy
This is a real Tom Clancy book, not one of those using his name even though he died before they were written. They are much better.
Great idea and well weaved into current events…
