This was a really unique and interesting read! I absolutely loved the world India R. Adams has created for this book. It is well thought through, and mystifying. Absolutely a must read just for that, but if you need more persuasion, here it comes.
One word: RYDER. Sexiness in eloquence and grace with every flip of the page. He also has his super hot macho moments 😉 He is so entertaining as he tries to navigate through the human world, and has quite a few missteps.
Secondly, the plot and characters were amazing. There were so many layers to each character, and they connected on deep levels. The plot was greatly weaved, revealing things at a steady pace and with great flow. It didn’t seem as though this book had any aspect “forced” onto the reader, and I appreciated that.
Overall, you should REALLY be adding this to your TBR.
WOW! What an amazing paranormal story about love, soul mates, destiny and two souls destined to be together. Love the story line, the characters and the beautiful connection between Rose and Ryder. This author has created an amazing world full of suspense, drama, fantasy and love where dreams come true. This is my first book by India R. Adams and I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens next.
Rain is the first of a series and boy, what a story! India weaves through a unique story of love, friendship and…so many things I can’t put them all in a review!
All I can say is this book is a rollercoaster and it will be emotional. Loved it!
Received this book via LOP for an honest review.
This is the first book I have read by this author and omg it was amazing.
I’m struggling writing a review that will give it the justice. How do you give perfection a review?
From the second page till the last, I was hooked. Pulled into a world of demons, Elves, love and war.
PNR Y/A story of love, friendship, loyalty and soul deep bonds. You just cant help but love everything about it.
The characters were perfect and lovable, very easy to connect to. Even the bad guys had a tender moment. I couldn’t even dislike them. I loved the world building and plot was well laid out and the pace steady. Everything just flowed perfectly.
Rose is believed to be the prophecy and must be protected at all costs. Ryder is her guardian.
“Two bloods of one will bring down the shadows, to cast, no more.”
I could tell you about each character and their role in the demon war but I think its best you read and find out for yourself.
I was confused as to why this book was called Rain but that became clear and melted my heart more. I can’t wait till 2017 for the next book.
Amazing!
This book is full of magic and love!! India wrote a story that reaches your heart and soul!! I could not put it down!!! Thank you India for this woderful story!!
This trilogy came highly recommended by a friend, as she knows my love of fantasy and paranormal.
The new world this author created sucked me in and I was hanging on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Not wanting this story to end. It was so good!
Oh boy. Rain by India R. Adams is a young adult paranormal romance. Rain is a fantasy novel and boy, was it a doozy.
You know, I read the Twilight series back in high school, loved it, own it, but there is a reason I have not picked it back up to see if it aged well. I am well aware that it probably has not aged well, but I do not want to tarnish the memory of it.
Rain is Twilight, and it was not good.
Now, that is not to say it is poorly written, it was pretty decent structure-wise, but the main issue of this novel are those damn character dynamics
Cliché Characters
Rose is a Mary Sue. She is oh so perfect and that makes her unrelatable. Then there is her relationship with her best-friend Gunner. It is like Jacob and Bella. I am serious. He is in love with her and she is attracted to him enough to try in a relationship with him. However, it came off as forced and weird. Reading their relationship felt almost like watching incest unfold. Then there is the dialogue between them. He is always calling her “baby,” and it was just so annoying. Reading Gunner was annoying and his whole dynamic with Rose was just forced and uncomfortable.
Then there is Ryder. Ryder is an elf, who ends up biting Rose and injecting her with venom to help her heal. Come on, he sounds like Edward and acts like Edward; he’s Edward. Moreover, his tone and language were stiff. He does not come alive, his emotions, his personality, it is lacking and does not create a strong connection with Rose. However, what is annoying about their relationship is their automatic “I love you,” even before they meet
Final Thoughts
The elf aspect was interesting. The take on elves and trolls was interesting, but at the end of the day, this novel feels like bad Twilight fan fiction and I feel bad saying that because it feels harsh. I was so intrigued by the cover and synopsis, and I was thankful when the author provided me with a free copy to review. Nevertheless, I ultimately was utterly disappointed by this novel. The dynamics were lacking, they came off forced, the language and tone between characters did not match, and the love triangle trope was cliché at best.
Ultimately, Rain was a big disappointment.
This is not my normal go to read at all, but has still been on my list to try, as I know that anything written by India is pure magic. In this case literally. Finally I got the courage to give it a go…
Reading the start totally had me thinking that this might be the wrong time to read this with there being a pandemic and all, but it took me far too long already to try so will power through, the author always makes it worth it anyway with her words.
Not all things that visit you in your sleep mean you harm. Connections with another being can be powerful beyond belief. The unexplainable, explainable…
While this is not my usual read, I somehow found myself up to 3am unable to put it down. This bleary eyed girl was shockingly transfixed. That speaks volumes, more than any long winded review could. Although I don’t think I’m completely converted to this genre, this is just proof that anything by India is a must read, no matter your tastes.
This story has a massive spiritual and enlightenment vibe running right through its very centre.
It was unusual and very unique and definitely stood out from the crowd.
There is a slight love triangle element to the whole story but I didn’t find it overly angsty just not really to my taste.
I’m just not a fan of this type of trope and wasn’t aware before I started that this was going to be so deeply a part of the unfolding story theme.
I thought it detracted somewhat from the overall connection between Ryder and Rose and she should have been getting her sole support and comfort from Ryder himself, he should have been her all and her ultimate end game rather than then also having her have such a deeply entrenched connection to a second male character.
I also thought It wasn’t exactly fair on Gunner either and he deserved someone who was just solely for him rather than constantly being on the fringes looking in, always an observer.
The language used here from Ryder and the rest of the village was so very formal and stilted and then by such a strange contrast character’s would come out with such juvenile slang talk it just didn’t feel like it fitted together.
I also wasn’t a fan of some of the euphemisms used either, call it what it is none of this member’s and tunnel’s, please.
I felt this would have been better served if the author had stuck with one or the other, either the formal language or the more slangy YA alternative as the two just didn’t mesh at all for me.
This was also pretty repetitive and slow and the relationship itself felt overly juvenile and I wasn’t feeling the chemistry here at all.
On the plus side, this has some great potential and some really good and imaginative ideas.
It just didn’t wow me and though I was intrigued enough to keep on turning the pages I won’t be continuing on any further down the road, there was nothing wrong with the writing itself Im just not invested enough.
This was a different read with lots of action and imagination and plenty have loved this unfortunately this one was just not for me.

This book has it all! The hidden world of the elves is beautifully developed, the romance is sweet, the twists are unexpected and the characters deep. I love the complexity of the relationship that is developed between Rose and her Guardian(s). I love the awkwardness of Ryder, the love of Gunner, and Rose’s compassion. Great read, definitely interested in how the series develops.
This first book in India R Adams’ series A Stranger In The Woods was absolutely amazing. Wonderful world building, amazing characters that you can relate to, and the haunting possibility that what you believed in as a child, fairy tales, are completely real. The author gives so much into this book series that you can tell it has a special place in her heart. It is an original, and each word, each sentence, each page she writes has meaning. This book will warm your heart and yet give you chills at the same time as you worry about the characters that you began to care about from the very first page. I highly recommend this book.
Nightmares and Dreams can become reality— things you think you may have imagined, can be at your very window..This writer is talented , she managed to write this story in such a way that it was very convincing.. The characters draw you in , you root for their cause — you pray they succeed– they believe they will .. But what is the price, and do they regret it? This will leave you wanting to read the next and the next book.. India you are very gifted and I love your style..More . more .. more
Rain is the first book in the A Stranger in the Woods series, and it starts off with a bang. Rose is looking after her younger siblings as her mother struggles to live. There is a plague that has decimated her village, it has already claimed her father, and numerous friends. The person who has been there for Rose throughout is Gunner. They have been best friends for years, but Gunner thinks that he wants to take it further. Everyone else is expecting it, but when it does happen, it’s not as Rose imagined. Whilst this is going on, we meet Ryder, a Guardian, who is instantly attracted to Rose for reasons he doesn’t really comprehend. Only time will tell how these three will work things out.
Now, where do I start? This story is fresh and original, it is compelling, it is heartbreaking, it is hopeful. India R. Adams has a way of writing that draws you in, that makes you want to read more, even at stupid o’clock! I will admit to be slightly worried at the start as love triangles aren’t really my thing, but how this story was told… well, it all just makes sense! I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Of course, I mean that generally as there are parts that had me sobbing. With feisty families, fabulous friends, gorgeous Guardians, and more ‘bad guys’ than you can shake a stick at, there is something here for everyone.
This book was extremely well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow. I really can’t recommend it highly enough, if you are looking for a fresh paranormal/fantasy romance. Absolutely brilliant! Also, have you SEEN that cover? Simply stunning, I love it!
