Rule 1: The client’s always right. Rule 2: When the client’s wrong, see Rule 1. When the client wants someone killed? There’s no rule for that. In the middle of a burger-store holdup, the only thing standing between ten-year-old Vivian Mollison and certain death is a police officer named Rafferty. She lives. He gets fired. For the fifteen years since Rafferty’s hustled the streets of Dallas as a … Rafferty.
She lives.
He gets fired.
For the fifteen years since Rafferty’s hustled the streets of Dallas as a private investigator. Sometimes it’s good work.
Most times, not so much.
So, when he gets a call from Vivian’s now-wealthy parents, Rafferty’s thinking dollar signs.
But will he do what it takes for a long-awaited payday?

Praise for Rafferty: P.I.
“If you like Parker’s Spenser, or Robert Crais’ Elvis Cole you should love the Rafferty series.” – Mark A. Johnson.
“Rafferty is the best hardboiled PI of this era.” – Wendy Green.
“Any fan of Micky Spillane, the Jack Reacher novels, or Mark Yost’s Rick Crane novels should absolutely venture into the world of Rafferty P.I.” – Michael Raabe.
“Duncan truly captured the pure essence of the definitive smart-ass private eye in his character Rafferty. Take part Sam Spade with a little Mike Hammer, mix in some Spenser and you have an awesome character.” – Cliff Fausset.
“This author goes on my list of great private eye writers along with Kinky Friedman, Elmore Leonard, and Lawrence Sanders.” – Tricia Schiro.

I loved it. It was witty and unashamedly kick ass. Can’t wait to read more.
I enjoyed the book to the end. Good rrading
If you’re a fan of Robert B Parker, you’ll enjoy these books.
Well written, enjoyable read. Good crime novel.
Awesome
Comparisons with Robert B. Parker’s Spenser novels are inevitable. Rafferty is a former cop turned wisecracking PI who is tough with the bad guys and tender with his attractive, professional-businesswoman girlfriend. He has one-and-a-half tough sidekicks (you’ll have to read the book to learn about the “half”). Three books into the six written by W. Glenn Duncan I think they are not as good as Parker’s first fifteen (through Crimson Joy) but are nearly the equal of the last twenty-four Spenser novels.
Excellent story…likable characters!
Rafferty is a bit too much with his attitude. He’s falls into the smart-ass detective type.
Loved this book! Great characters
Will keep you glued to your seat…a real thriller!
An action adventure with a good main character. No real twists or turns but would buy another from the series. This book is from a different time, when the hero could get maybe get away with some of the things that happen. His actions probably would not fly in these modern times.
Rafferty is a hoot
Well developed characters and story line.
Great read
Good read
Loved the humour
I enjoyed this book but some of the language was a bit dated. I realize this book was written in 1987 but the slang was a bit hard to understand.
very good book
Loved it! Love the whole series.
