Rule 1: The client’s always right. Rule 2: When the client’s wrong, see Rule 1. When the client wants someone killed? There’s no rule for that. In the middle of a burger-store holdup, the only thing standing between ten-year-old Vivian Mollison and certain death is a police officer named Rafferty. She lives. He gets fired. For the fifteen years since Rafferty’s hustled the streets of Dallas as a … Rafferty.
She lives.
He gets fired.
For the fifteen years since Rafferty’s hustled the streets of Dallas as a private investigator. Sometimes it’s good work.
Most times, not so much.
So, when he gets a call from Vivian’s now-wealthy parents, Rafferty’s thinking dollar signs.
But will he do what it takes for a long-awaited payday?

Praise for Rafferty: P.I.
“If you like Parker’s Spenser, or Robert Crais’ Elvis Cole you should love the Rafferty series.” – Mark A. Johnson.
“Rafferty is the best hardboiled PI of this era.” – Wendy Green.
“Any fan of Micky Spillane, the Jack Reacher novels, or Mark Yost’s Rick Crane novels should absolutely venture into the world of Rafferty P.I.” – Michael Raabe.
“Duncan truly captured the pure essence of the definitive smart-ass private eye in his character Rafferty. Take part Sam Spade with a little Mike Hammer, mix in some Spenser and you have an awesome character.” – Cliff Fausset.
“This author goes on my list of great private eye writers along with Kinky Friedman, Elmore Leonard, and Lawrence Sanders.” – Tricia Schiro.

Couldn’t put it down until I finished it.
Good read, will most likely read others by the author.
I thought it was just an average read. I didn’t find Rafferty nearly as clever as others may have. Several times I asked myself if I really wanted to finish it. I did finish, but wouldn’t read another book in the series.
Love the characters
A little rough language but very entertaining.
This was a marvelous read. Couldn’t put it down. I’ve already bought the next two.
Hard nosed humor, reminded me of Robert B. Parker’s Spencer.
Did not like it
It kept my interest throughout and had plenty of action. It was a little over the top but I would read more form this author and series.
I’ve been a fan of the Rafferty books for a while now and it was great to reread this one. Good characters, lots of action, solid interaction between the characters. if you like your private eyes who often work “off the books” so to speak, a bit on both sides of the street, then try W. Glenn Duncan’s Rafferty series.
Loved it! I am a die-hard Mike Hammer fan and Rafferty reminds me a lot of him. Hardnosed, stubborn, determined to do what’s right, and not afraid to get into trouble doing it. This story has everything I love and look for in my mysteries-plenty of action, a great central character with his woman by his side (yeah, I know; a little backwards thinking, but I can’t help it), and the bad guys getting their’s in spades. I highly recommend this first in series and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the others.
Hard-boiled detective genre. If you enjoy this genre, this is a no-brainer.
No real suspense . Just “ tough guy “ antics .. flat
This was one you would never figure out.Lots of twist and turns.Cant wait to read another one by this Author.
This was an enjoyable read! It was my first Rafferty book. There is not a lot of depth to the storyline, but something about it grabs you and doesn’t let go. Perfect book to escape from the world for awhile.
Very enjoyable characters!
Looking forward to reading more of the “Rafferty” books, Enjoyed the humor that was injected!
Fast paste twists and terns
If Lawrence Block and Lee Child collaborated, they might come up with this cocky do-good private eye. Oh, maybe throw in a touch of John D McDonald’s Travis McGee. Obviously I was taken with the quick jibes and slick crime solving. Tough guy with s heart of gold and a stunning gal to accompany him on his travels. Great stuff to read.
What a great story! I really enjoyed reading this book. It kept me on my toes and guessing until the end!
