Couldn’t put it down! Read the whole thing in one sitting.
This was the first book I read from this author. She was recommended by a friend that knows my taste in books and thought I’d love the series. It is definitely a great book and I’m excited to read more now that I’ve discovered this world of the Stone Society!
Overall good story but lacks maturity & depth. Constant hopping around characters as if to tell everyone’s story versus focus on a few & allow other characters to support main line.
Full of mystery and hidden connections
Kaya, Chief of Police, believes that Rafael, reclusive architect, is hiding something, not comprehending just how accurate that feeling is. When his name keeps popping up while investigating the disappearance and murder of delegates, she has no choice but to seek him out. As the story progresses an enemy resurfaces, the lost reappear, and finding out the truth becomes paramount to their survival. Faith Gibson starts the Stone Society of with a bang delving into cataclysmic events, hidden creatures, buried secrets, and vengeful psychos from the first chapter. Full of mystery and hidden connections his could prove to be an amazing adventure for all adult paranormal romance readers.
2 stars
Kaya is the chief of police of New Atlanta. Thirty some years ago, the world was almost destroyed. They are slowly building back up. When eleven people are killed and Kaya investigates, her search takes her to Rafael. Rafael is a gargoyle King, architect, and very old. Upon hearing Kaya’s voice on the phone, strange things happen. He starts researching the arch to see if a gargoyle has ever mated a human. Between looking for a killer and learning about mating, can Rafael keep Kaya safe?
I read a lot of reviews and I can understand the low ratings. I started to stop reading several times but wanted to see how it ended. First, there are too many different stories going on. The main characters aren’t the only story being told. Second, it felt like I was missing something. And last, there is a cliffhanger.
Another series to dive into
You can’t miss this had a BDB vibe to it, there’s a king, baddies, and unholies, and of course insta lust/mates, it is different though as they’re gargoyle shifters and to be fair many PNR books have this combination.
I did feel the author crammed a lot into one book. There is some mention of a post-disaster world, but basically life sounded much the same as now – which is fine with me. Lots of characters are introduced so lots to keep up with, and some seem to come into contact with their intended mates.
This is Rafael’s story as he is King and he has an instant reaction to Kaya. I accept instalove in PNR as let’s face it they only get one fated mate!
I found this a good read and will look at more books in this series.
3.75 new series to dive into stars
Very interesting. Rafael Stone, king of the Gargoyle shapeshifters meets Kaya Kane, New Atlanta Chief of Police and human, during a multiple homicide investigation…sparks fly. Can a shapeshifter and human mate? Will Rafael be cleared of suspicion for the murders? Find the answers in Rafael. Intriguing introduction into the Stone Society series and looking forward to reading book 2.
Rafael is the first book in the Stone Society series and an excellent introduction to this paranormal world. This novel is about the Gargoyle shifters and was the first book I read with Gargoyles. Faith Gibson did a fantastic job creating a new world for us to enjoy and I really loved the concept of this series. The storyline was intriguing with romance, mystery and some suspense and I was hooked from beginning to end. The main characters were likable and the author gave us so many secondary characters I can’t wait to see how they all interact in the overall series. This novel was a fabulous read and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of paranormal romance.
The audiobook version of this novel was narrated by Mace Earl Finn. He has a deep voice that was just perfectly suited to the gargoyles. His pace and timing was excellent and I enjoyed listening to him narrate this novel.
Great this series and the author.
I’ve had this series on my TBR list for a while now…I’m glad I finally had the chance to dive in.
I felt a bit like this entire book might be the prequel…there are a good many character introductions and a lot of world building. While Rafael and Kaya’s story is the focus of this first book I feel a little cheated, there was so much other stuff happening, their relationship was hurried.
But this is fantasy and I was delighted with all of the aspects of the story left hanging, I’m anxious to see what happens with this interesting cast of characters.
A perfect match with these two even though so many questions are needing answers. Luckily there is a lot of background to this story that is told so beautifully that you enjoy the ride with these great characters. I enjoyed listening and will be waiting for the next.
I tried to read this book. But I just couldn’t. Nothing grabbed my attention. I tried to stop and come back to it cause I really wanted to like it. I just couldn’t.
I loved this book so much that I am reading the rest of the series.
I loved this book so much that I have read all the books in this series so far. Hope there’s more to come
great concept…strong descriptions that made it an easy read. love the characters too…great start to a series 🙂
A little spicy for my tastes but very entertaining.
Did not finish. 30 pages in, was devoutly hoping a meteor hit both main characters simultaneously.
The beginning of one of the best series I’ve ever read. I fell in love with the Stone Society from page one.
Really good read! Novel characters and exciting pacing. An engrossing paranormal romance which will please fans of the genre.
Luved the book
