I find myself saying this a lot, for books that I enjoy so much with an author who has incredible talent! My review will not do it justice. I’ll start with if you have triggers or are easily offended this book is not for you.
Smell the flowers, blow out the candles.
This story was something else, full of mind fs That will leave you going did she just go there!? Yes, yes she absolutely did!
He doesn’t want you
Sick, sick, sick!
He loves you more than anything.
Learning about the life of Malakai and Adriel was heartbreaking but also very loving with touches of innocence rolled into dark, twisted mind f#%€ery!
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
Dark , twisted taboo and forbidden are just a few words that come to mind when I think about this book , but also a love story so unique and heartbreakingly beautiful that it makes me want to weep with what I’ve just read ! This book will definitely test your boundaries and limits, and if you want to push them limits than definitely read RIP ! Charity B is a fairly new author to me I’ve only read a few other books by her but I can say that she definitely has a talent for writing unique taboo forbidden romances and is definitely one of my favorite authors that I’ve discovered of 2019 !
*** I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book ***
Dear fellow readers, what king of review can I write for such a crazy book? If you could see me right now, smiling like a fool at my kindle?
I adore Mrs Bailey universe, challenging, colorful, beautiful, ugly, chilling. INSANE. That adjective doesn’t even start to qualify the essence of R.I.P.
Be warned, you’re going to be hit pretty hard by the taboo relationship between Adriel and Kai. They are ill, they are broken. Their fusional love felt quite disconcerting, like freaks reunited within chaos.
“Smell the flowers, blow out the candles.”
The subject matters are dark, yet the author managed to twist the story so that I found myself laughing at such f*ckedupness. In this story, everything is so wrong, yet I couldn’t get enough of their journey through hell. I wondered where they would lead us, and eventually leave us. AND I LOVED IT.
“I think we’re perfect. It’s everyone else who’s fucked up.”
This book? This book right here? This is the best kind of awful there is.
I have long ago stopped asking myself why I’m so fucked up 🙂 I don’t care why I’m fucked up, I just roll with it now.
And because I embrace who I am in all my fucked-up-ness, I LOVED this book!
Mhmm, this one had all the triggers.
ALL. OF. THEM!
Incest, non-consent, violence, mental illness, child abuse, darkest of dark stories.
Think of all of the awful things that could happen to child or person and I guarantee it’s in this book.
So, yeah…not for the faint of heart but it was sooo well written.
ADRIEL
Omg! I have never loved a wee psychopath as much as I do this lass!
Even her delusions and ‘creations’ are cute. Disturbing, yes but also adorable.
And although she has a craving for the…darker side of life I just can’t fault her.
She and her brother have been brought up in such a messed up household.
Their mum is ill. Very seriously mentally ill. And as with all mental illnesses, it is not her fault but it does affect her family to the extreme.
Basically mum hates Adriel and loves Malakai.
She thinks Adriel is evil and can’t even stand to acknowledge she exists.
Adriel knows this and guys, it just leaves her with a gaping hole in her soul as all she wants to do is love and be loved in return.
Well…most of the time, lol.
She’s the perfect mix of innocence and crazy rage.
But she’s different and all the kids at her school know it and have made her life outside the home as well as inside it just awful.
MALAKAI
This lad is not quite as fucked up as his sister is and I’ll be honest. I spent a long time wishing that he was!
Life would be so much easier for him if he just…stopped thinking about right and wrong!
He was never gonny get out of that house with all of his mental faculties intact. He just wasn’t.
Not after his mum loved him so much…too much…you feel me?
He tries so hard to be good. To do the right thing.
I wish he didn’t try so hard.
I loved him and felt for him and cried for him and cheered for him.
ALL. OF. THE. FEELS!
SICK & SEXY SCENES
This is another one where I need to say the following:
!!***TRIGGER WARNING***!!
He glistens in the setting sun, the blood appearing black in the dimming light. It’s all over him. Dripping from his jaw and smeared across his shirt. It’s the most captivating thing I’ve ever seen. With a hand on each of his cheeks, I kiss him. “I love you.” He swallows my whisper as his slippery hands slide to the back of my neck. His tongue slips into my mouth, deepening our kiss. Never separating from his lips, I shift around to straddle Carl’s cadaver. “He wanted to fuck us so bad.” I stroke the hilt of the knife and smirk at the raised eyebrows on Kai’s face. “It looks like he’s ready.” Moving my panties, I line the hilt of the knife up with my aching entrance, and slide down over it. “Fuck, Adriel.” His chuckle is erotically sinister. Oh yes, I like this side of him. His fingers tangle in my hair while he stands, undoing his jeans. They drop to the floor as he tears the shirt from his body. I clench around the knife the moment he releases his cock. Stroking himself, he smears crimson across his shaft. My hips move faster, blood covering my thighs and pussy. “Suck his blood off me.” He will never have to ask me twice. The coppery taste hits my tongue as I lick up his length. The forcefulness of his hand pushing against the back of my head causes little stars to burst in my tummy. I suction my mouth around him in quick, hard sucks. Gripping both sides of my head, he thrusts harder. “Oh, my God, yes. Suck my cock.” The sound of every whispered, “Fuck,” speeds up the pulse in my veins. At his words I rub myself faster, fucking the handle so hard, the corpse beneath me jolts with every thrust. My bottom hits the fabric of his dirty jeans with how deep I’m taking the hilt. I adore the sound of Kai’s moans even more than I loved their screams.
Final Thoughts on R.I.P. by Charity B
I know, I know! I’m a sick puppy but I lost myself in this dark and twisted book. I need more!
It’s love in all of it’s dark, bloody, twisted, confusing, glory.
But please take heed of the warnings, ok? Those of you that continue…you are my tribe!
5 Stars
Omg! If you like dark then read this.
This is just wow. The trigger warnings are there for a reason.
This is one twisted, taboo and forbidden story and I loved it!
I’m not going to write too much and give it away. I went in blind without reading the blurb and wow wasnt expecting it!
“Smell the flowers, blow out the candles.”
I have thought a lot about how to compose this review, for DAYS. I’ve finally settled on an unprecedented (for me) “format”. I never seem to be able to capture my thoughts and feelings on a book both as I move through it AND immediately after processing what I just read. This time I did. In a series of conversations of all places. I keep going back to my “in the moment” reactions and realizing that I won’t actually be able to sum it up any better than I did. (A small piece of this has been shared by the other party already.)So…
“It’s adorably morbid. Just like you. ”
»This is certifiably THE most f*d up book I’ve ever read by virtue purely of the fact that it is not POSSIBLE to pack any more FU into 2.5 hours. All together now
“Hey Kai, remember how Daddy used to cut up our hot dogs? This kind of looks like a hot dog, doesn’t it?”
»She (Adriel) was friggin *DELIGHTFUL* in that truly sinful way It’s graceful though. That is truly what set it apart for me. The elegance and honest portrayal of love with *absolute* simplicity. I have no doubt at all that there are people who will struggle but then again, knowing what you are doing (or about to do at any rate) is as important with a book as it is with any other activity. I have no sympathy for the pearl clutchers in other words THAT guy (Mikkel)could be worthy of a series of his own if you took the right shine to him. His relationship with Thomas? Girl you’ve got devilishly delish on a platter. It’s just waiting for YOU. They were BOTH immediately intriguing. The sweetness that Adriel portrays is present to a degree, but there is soooo much more to work with in him. And there’s definitely a story begging to get out.
“His name is Handsie, and hers is…Stinky Baby. Switching their heads was Pegamy’s idea”
»I DO love her(Pegamy)! They all (Adriel’s creations) became a cast of their own! Oh, how many times I laughed out loud The sass, the spunk and the snark? She was just a hoot and a half. And as if Adriel needed yet ANOTHER dimension to her already Technicolor personality? Her creations were the cherry on this book. It COULD have been written without, it would have been lacking that little something extra special.
“You’re my brother. I love you more than anyone in the whole wide world.”
»Controversy sells. It’s a simple fact in the end. Me? I equate banning a book to burning it. It makes me sick. At the same time, people get curious. The noise gets louder and noise is what really makes careers in the end. The good and the bad. I feel as though Kai provided the necessary balance with his developing morality (or eventual lack-ish thereof.) Without him, I’m not sure that the story could have been told at all. Let alone to the effect that it was. All the rich characters left you with so many possible avenues that I cannot WAIT to see where your muse takes you!
“I thought I could do it. Will myself not to want her, but I can’t.”
»I spent the whole of RIP thinking “my god this would make for such a wicked series because I wanna know what happens next, dammit “. This was such a sick, sad treat!
“He doesn’t want you.
Sick, sick, sick!
He loves you more than anything.”
»Your contribution to the literary world has taken firm root in my heart. I am not a totally unbiased reader, it’s true. I do my best though when doing an ARC review. Hold onto the love when you doubt.
“…Please don’t take my sunshine away.”
If you are a dark book lover: get this story!
If you are a quality book lover: get this story!
If you are a reader without limits: get this story!
If you lover of the non-conventional: get this story!
If you just want a book to worship and devour: GET THIS STORY!!
This book was just incredible, it has passion and heat, darkness and delights. It devours you as you devour it. I could not stop turning the pages. I found myself absorbed into every action, every thought, every emotion! I mean seriously I have no other words for this story, just take a chance and get this story.
Triggers: There are a bunch of triggers in this story, IT IS dark, there are scenes that are not for all. I highly caution those who have triggers to simply beware.
There is no doubt that when a Charity B book lands in your kindle it’s going to be fantastic. It’s Dark, Sick, Twisted and a little deranged just the way I like it.
This book contains trigger warnings so be warned. It also pushes the boundaries on what’s right and wrong to the point where you no longer care, you will be flipping those pages dying to see what happens next.
If you love a creepy taboo this book like I do, then this book is for you.
Malakai and Adriel Courtenay find themselves in a unique situation, as they have been living a life that appears one way on the outside. Now that they can embrace their depraved cravings, Kai and Adriel are committed to fulfilling their dreams.
“You need to keep her tethered. Understand?”
This story is divided between two parts and narrated in multiple POV, which lends to an immediate sense of what makes these characters tick. As the plot unfolds, it’s apparent that boundaries do not exist and the characters all have their own inner demons to contend with.
“With those words, I fill her body with my own. And for the first time in my life, I feel a sense of peace.”
With a dark erotic tone and intriguing characters, this story completely hooked me from the beginning. Adriel has particularly fascinating impulses and I couldn’t wait to see what would transpire next. As for Kai, he is the whole sexy package. Also, the dynamic that occurred in part two was like adding dark sprinkles to an already overflowing taboo themed sundae.
R.I.P. is an erotic horror that creates empathy for characters but also blurs the lines of depravity.
There are no words. This is just one of those books that you have to read. It’s not for everyone, that’s for sure.
FYI check your morals at the door before you read it.
I knew I was taking a chance after reading Skeleton King but I was really curious after hearing about this book. It was INTENSE. Like, not for everyone, at all.
It was well written, DARK, but very well written. I loved Kai and Adriel, they were both very vibrant characters. The content was extremely disturbing, turned my stomach a bit, but I actually enjoyed the book. If you can handle twisted, jump in.
A-f*cking-mazing!!! If you’re into dark romance, just read this book!!
3.5 stars
Wrong Wrong Wrong, But We’ll Do It Anyway ‘Cause We Love A Bit Of Trouble

What’s this book about? (I’m trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
Repeat from my Skeleton King review: This is a crazy book. Not everyone is going to LIKE or ENJOY it. This isn’t meant for everyone. That’s okay. It’s very dark and twisted. That’s all you need to know!
Let me start of by saying that Skeleton King was better. I don’t know why Skeleton King has a lower rating. This story was much crazier than Skeleton King – I didn’t know that was possible, but Charity B. makes it possible. I don’t feel comfortable talking about the chemistry between characters, but it was definitely there between the two main leads. The author gets a lot of credit for her creativity and willingness to think outside the box. With this story, I felt like some of the back and forth was too much or too late. If it had been placed differently, I might have found myself more invested there. The part somewhere around 60-85% wasn’t for me. All in all, this was a great second read from Charity B. and I’m definitely interested in reading more of her work because she seems very promising. I recommend this to people who are brave, open-minded, and don’t take this stuff too seriously.
ORIGINAL COMMENT
Well that was a book I’ve never read before (yes same comment as Skeleton King LOL)
If you love dark and twisted reads then this is totally for you but be warned, those trigger warnings are there for a reason and don’t take them lightly at all. Malakai and Adriel pretty much only have each other to rely on but that’s all I’m saying because I don’t wanna give anything away.
This book was sooo disturbingly goooooooddd!! Like, I don’t know if I should be into this and I definitely should not be liking this, but I can’t stop reading.
As I’ve gotten to read and know more of Charity’s work, I have become more comfortable with exploring dark, taboo and forbidden books. She just makes it so easy to fall in love with her characters. And these are not the type of people you should be looking to spend your forever with in real life. This woman has bewitched me into loving her work and even though I feel dirty doing it..I’m okay with that!
***This book is not for the lighthearted! There are trigger warnings for a reason!***
Going into R.I.P. with an open mind wasn’t enough for the intensity my head absorbed with this book.
Taboo is an understatement! I’ve read stories of this nature many times and there are very few authors that can pull off the words to make a story that is disturbing, yet beautiful and Charity B. is one that does just that and she does it with grace. She has become one of my must-read authors.
Smell the flowers… Blow out the candles… Remember that when going into this story because you WILL find yourself doing just that throughout every page.
I never give spoilers with my reviews, but know this…
R.I.P is definitely not for everyone. If you have read this author’s work before then you know what you are getting into… even with that knowledge, I suggest you cleanse your mind before starting.
If you’ve never read Charity B. approach with caution! She has the skill to burn her words into your soul and the searing sensation of the heat will stay with you long after you close the pages.
Five disturbing, yet beautiful stars!
Holy Shit! Recommended for HORROR LOVERS ONLY!
Well, I needed some fresh air of Dark Horror, and that is exactly what was delivered in “R. I. P. “ Parts 1&2, by Charity B. This was a new-to-me Author, though I WILL be checking out her other works.
I am so thankful I haven’t *yet* read the Anthology in which “Part 1” of this novel first appeared. Having the opportunity to read it, going in blind, in its entirety was a true horrific delight.
This was not one of those Erotic Horror books that I found hot bc I’m weird like that. This was simply a captivating story for me, and the writing I found to be great, considering the complexity of how the story is told.
I couldn’t even begin to review a book like this; so I’ll save that for those who can & do so well, regardless of opinion.
***This is a book of Horror; and even some Horror readers will not like it. This book is not for everyone, for a variety of reasons. Almost any trigger I can think of is in this book! *Truly heed those with this one!* I consider myself to be a true Dark Lover of all points on the spectrum….and this was boundary pushing for me. However, that said, I fkn loved it!***
*****Trigger Warning: This book contains many triggers and taboo subject matter. If are uncomfortable with this plus gore, explicit/graphic situations and disturbing content then this book may not be for you*****
Malakai and Adriel are siblings that were born to a schizoaffective mother and a pastor father, living a normal Christian life. At least on the outside. No one knows the real truth that goes on behind closed doors. Family nights are said to be their way of doing Holy work for God because the mother is blessed with a gift and knows who needs their help by her visions. Then everything goes wrong for the children and their whole life is ripped apart.
No one understands them because no one knows what has really been going on or what they have actually been made to do or become for their mother. Malakai is being tormented by it and Adriel can’t stand that it is crippling him in such a way. Adriel will keep make sure they stay together one way or another or she will burn the world to the ground trying.
A book that I have been able to read thanks to the Winter Games Reader Challenge this month at Facebook. I have no problem reading taboo or disturbing things but they usually aren’t written very well or are short stories but this book was so well written I loved it. It just flowed so well that I had to force myself to put it down the first night when I was around 65% into it and it was 6 a.m. I thought that characters were really creative and well rounded.
It’s a super dark world that has been built in this story and I really did wait on bated breath (as the saying goes, kind of) to follow how the story went. I got nervous for them and felt sorrow for them and was disgusted for them (you’ll understand when you’ve read it). I appreciated the detailed imagery used while describing the visions and even with all the gore, it just fit and made it better; it wouldn’t have been as good without it.
Wow! the author certainly knows how to weave a story and keep you on the edge of your seat. First of all, please do read the author’s note about trigger warnings and heed – this is not a story for all but if you are game, you are going to be in for a ride of your life. This twisted and graphic tale will create very realistic images and emotions – definitely will take you out of your comfort zone. Very well written with some intriguing characters. A definite edge of the seat page turner.
this book is not for the weak to read! there a normal family who believe in the church. only behind closed doors they are just very sick people. you must read this book!
