There are a couple of things I should say here:
1. If you’re looking for a synopsis of the book, look elsewhere. I don’t do that but I will tell you a little bit about the book.
2. If you are expecting a YA book (I think that’s how this one is classified) then look elsewhere.
a. High school sophomores are not adults.
b. Point a. doesn’t matter because this is a mythology book, complete with gods and magic and stuff that is set at a high school.
c. I don’t read YA books and I’ve read all three of these.
I got through with this one quickly because I cheated… sort of. I’ve been in this series from the beginning and initially books 1 and 2 were released separately. I only had to find the end of book 2 and start reading from there. Now that I’ve done that, I might go back and start over, just to catch up.
So, you might say, if I don’t read YA books, why did I start this series? If you have to ask, I’ll direct you to the cover where you will find “Victoria Danann” in pretty bold letters, right? ‘Nuff said. I read her books even when technically I should not like them and this is an example. As I stated above, this is more like mythology but using a high school setting, but then it is more than just that.
In fact, this book(s) series is different from the author’s usual books in that there is no “end” to them. Well, that’s how it was except we find out this isn’t nearly the end of the series… yay! for us readers! In this 3-book series, I think it just flows right through and then it stops – it doesn’t end, it stops. But it stops in such a way as to make you want books 4 – 6 NOW. Or maybe that’s just me because I’m “just a little” impatient but then I defy you not to be the same way with this one.
So the bottom line is this: Whatever you think you know about what to expect… you’re wrong. Whatever you think you know of the author’s writing pattern… wrong again.
Well, not exactly because this is classic Victoria Danann: well written, polished, and a good story told in a great manner. That doesn’t change with her. Do I sound biased? You betcha! I’ve read all of her books and some things don’t change and that’s a good thing – well, that might not be true, completely. If it’s possible, her writing has improved over the years and that’s just awesome!
Buy it. Read it. You’ll be glad you did.
This series took me back to my high school days. It brought up good and bad memories. It gave me a refreshing taste of teenage minds. Lots of twists and turns and really interesting characters. Overall a very enjoyable series for YA and Adults all together. Definitely will recommend to my teenage daughters!!
Love this series! Haven’t read a YA series in a while that has grabbed my attention but this one did right from the start. I started reading the books when the first one was released but love this set together. I couldn’t wait for the next book and can’t wait for the next 3 books in this series. There are many twists and turns that I never knew what was going to happen next. I also love the main characters and the drama that is forming. I am never disappointed by Victoria Dannan’s books and these didn’t disappoint either
R. Caine High School, books 1-3 is a great new series. If you look at this and say I don’t read YA books, you’ll be missing a great story. All ages will enjoy this book. These high school kids that are really children of the gods, are funny, smart and kept me entertained from beginning to end. I love reading mythology and this series has it all. The twists and turns as to whom the players are, who the good guys are and who will win to the game, kept me guessing, which just added to the suspense and anticipation for the next books. I can’t wait.
R. Caine High School is a page turner for sure. Each one of these three YA books gives you a bit more information about the game and the players. It is exciting to watch it unfold as you discover each new card right along with Ever. This feels like the groundwork is being laid out or almost like a warm up. I am ready for the game to start. The characters each have their own personalities that you can totally see and understand. You can picture the scenery in your mind without over drawn out descriptions. Never thought I would say I am looking to more high school, but here I am ready for more. Ha ha.
WOW!!
It’s been quite some time since I’ve read a YA series that kept my attention & had me wanting more as much as R. Caine High did.
Victoria Danann has a way of writing that sucks you in & makes you feel like you are right there in the thick of things. Excellent world building.
Definitely a page turning, MUST READ!
These are enjoyable stories with more to come! The authors delve into Young Adult is a success . Who doesn`t love Viking Gods messing with their children?
