A sweet historical western romance with great characters, humor and history. Shanna Hatfield’s Quinn is a fiery and determined suffragette, another in a series of interesting heroines. She meets her match in Walker, who is equally determined. A great look into this time in history and, of course, a perfect happy ending.
Please forgive me for gushing.
Reading Quinn transported me to 1912. I loved the natural way Shanna Hatfield incorporated newspaper articles from that year as part of the story of the feisty newspaper reporter. Apparently, the sinking of the Titanic headlined in the newspapers for weeks after it occurred. I learned so much more about surrounding events, including the initial, erroneous articles that came out.
Also quite fascinating were the details surrounding the Suffragette movement. Though I have seen movies and read books that take place at that time, I had no idea the type of things that went into the efforts. While I knew there was opposition, that really came to life here with details previously unknown to me. The biggest impact of the story in this regard was that I had never before really cared that much. Movies such as The Great Race had, frankly, left me with a bitter attitude towards the women involved, as they seemed obnoxious and unreasonable. I now have a much greater appreciation for the motivations they had and have seen the women in a different light.
There were so many little details that added to the sense of place that I couldn’t even begin to mention them all (nor would I!) Suffice it to say, they were added in a subtle way and in just the right places to be just right. The terminology used was also period appropriate. No modern-day anachronisms jarred me from the turn-of-the-century.
It struck me how amazing it would have been to see the circus for the first time, or a leopard. Having grown up watching old movies and Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, I can’t remember the first time I saw these things – they were always just a natural part of my life. So experiencing Walker’s first encounters with these things had me almost regretful that I have become somewhat inoculated to the wonder of them.
This is my very favorite of the Pendleton Petticoats series and may be my favorite of this author’s books as well.

I would like to thank Shanna Hatfield for giving me this item. This gift did not influence my opinion or review.
Another excellent book by Shanna Hatfield! She brings history to life in this wonderful story. Highly recommend.
I received an arc of this book. My opinions are my own.
If I could give this story more than five stars I would. I loved, loved, loved this story and I believe it is the best of the Pendleton Petticoats series. I have loved all the stories but this has everything in it that you want in a series book. I loved Quinn, our heroine the feisty fiery red-haired beauty that will chase her causes with a passion.
Walker Williams the hero is Lacy Hill’s brother and a very up and coming architect and won’t let anything stop him. Walker and Lacy come from the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
This is a story that has everything you could want in a great story plus more. I loved that all the characters we are have loved over the series are all in this story. I love that even Steve the crazy mule is in this story. We get to see the whole town come together for a couple of events. We also see the women’s Suffrage movement that Quinn starts in Pendleton grow when the women are attacked during an Independence Day parade. Many more women come out to join the movement. Quinn is so good at convincing the men that can vote to support them.
This story has tension, romance, adventure, wit, funny things, taunting, and violence, and all the ups and downs that keep you so intensely reading because you have to know what is going to happen next.
I love all the history that this author has added to this story many names of people you may have never heard of show up in this story. Since Quinn is also a newspaper journalist the history adds so much to what the paper puts out.
If you have ever read a book by Shanna Hatfield you know she does awesome research. You will love this story I guarantee it. If you haven’t read any of the Pendleton Petticoat series you must start at the beginning to meet all the characters you read about in this story.
Shanna Hatfield outshines herself in this story and I highly recommend you reading this story.
I received this ARC to read but I did this review because I really wanted to as it was so good I want people who love historical western romances to know about this awesome story and this series.
I really loved Quinn and Walker. She is brash but has such a big heart. She believes strongly in her causes, wants to bring about change for everyone and Walker helps her every step of the way. She isn’t sure she will ever trust a man. Her big sister is getting married and she just knows that he isn’t good enough for her sister. In the meantime, Walker is trying to get Quinn to change her mind about getting married. He wasn’t sure he would be ready for marriage for quite a while, but Quinn changed his mind. The two face danger and realize they were meant to be, but will they survive long enough to have a life?
Walker is a worthy hero. He’s handsome, brave, strong and utterly devoted to Quinn. Quinn is headstrong, loyal, beautiful and fiery. Their journey to true love is filled with doubt and danger.
I’m always excited to sit down with a book by Shanna Hatfield, because I know I’m going to love it – and I did!
I loved Quinn and Walker immediately! They are good, strong, brave people that go after what they want in life. I loved the way Walker was always right there for Quinn. And that chemistry! Wow!
The story was great! I enjoyed the tidbits of history throughout it. The romance had me swooning and the danger had my heart clenching. I didn’t want to stop reading!
The other characters of the series are back, as well. I loved seeing them again! The friendships they have and the support they give each other are wonderful to see.
I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
I adored this book! It is a captivating, heartwarming, & intriguing story.
You will fall in love with Quinn & Walker. Quinn, has told herself, because of her family’s heartbreak, she’ll never marry.
Walker, is establishing himself to be a
successful architect. They spend
time dating. Enjoy each other comany.
Care about one another. Their chemistry is undeniable. Walker would be the best husband, & father. But, Quinn stops herself from getting serious.
It is an exciting, & beautifully written
book set in 1912, & the characters in
the town of Pendleton. The history of
that time, woven throughout. Be sure
to read the Author’s Note at the end.
I enjoyed this so much! It one of the ones you can’t put down!
A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!!
this is another great story by Shanna, if you have read any of her books you will like this one. i have read most of her books and love them, there are facts of what was going on at that time and you meet others from the other books. i was given an advanced copy but this is an honest review. the year this one is in , the Titanic set sail and women where trying to get the vote.
This is the first book by this author that I’ve read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Despite being book nine in a ten book (thus far) series, the story was easily read as a standalone. Bits of information about other characters or past incidents were sprinkled throughout the novel, so I could keep up with the history of the town and its inhabitants. I don’t know a lot about the early 1900s and loved learning about the era and especially women’s suffrage. My heart went out to Quinn who is a jumbled mass of bravado and insecurity. She is a beautiful woman, but because she looks different than most (bright red hair), she thinks she was unattractive. Too many of us struggle with the joy-killing that comparison can do. She is smart and sassy without being too modern of a character. Walker is totally swoonworthy, and the author did a great job addressing his Native American heritage and showing how he is caught between two worlds/cultures. There are a lot of characters, and are sometimes challenging to keep separated. The author’s use of the same letter for a character’s first and last name is done for several characters and somewhat distracting. All in all a great book.
As far as characters go, Quinn, is feisty and tenacious. She believes in not only women’s rights, but also that all people should have the same rights.
She believes so strongly that she goes to great lengths to convince everyone else that women should have rights.
Unfortunately, there are some men who don’t agree. And by “don’t agree”, I mean are so angered they will go to great lengths to stop the women’s movement.
This story will have you turning pages and cheering as well as booing, long into the night.
Another great story!
