At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.
In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves.

I am currently reading this as an audiobook. I recognize so many of the business, church and college scenarios she shares. I find her history of why …
Good for a sociology class in college. Full of validations for introverts and ambiverts. I found it interesting to a point but wasn’t dying to get to it every night.
if you have ever wondered about the introvert or are one, you should read this book. You will not only find out what the introvert is and is capable of but where they best fit into the everyday world. Very well written and thought out.
I loved the information provided in The Quiet. It helped me to understand why I need quiet / private time in my life (and no excuses needed to not attend social events). It also gave me inside into my husbands more extremely introverted behavior (couch potato may be a better description) and that he is happy not being more socially active.
I …
It help me understand who I am.
Although my personal perspective differs from the author’s, I felt as though when I finished this book I had learned so much. I appreciate both the information and the style in which it is presented. I would recommend this book highly – just as it was highly recommended to me.
