Having read many (50+) Kristen Ashley books, there’s clearly something about her writing that appeals to me. Having said that, I’ve been disappointed by more recent releases, so when I picked up QUIET MAN, I wasn’t entirely able to slough off my preconceived impressions.
Did I like the book? My first instinct is to say yes. It’s certainly a lot better than I expected. However, exceeding low expectations is hardly the hallmark of a great read, is it?
Charlotte “Lottie” McAlister’s life is in danger. Someone is threatening her, so Smithie, the owner of the strip club Lottie works in decides to get help to protect her. Enter Kim ‘Mo’ Morrison. He’s been assigned to guard Lottie 24/7. Wherever she goes, he goes.
I liked Lottie. She knows what she wants and she takes steps to get it. She was attracted to Mo from the start and was not coy about letting him know. Lottie never exhibited any too-stupid-to-live moments; she believed her life was in danger, and did what she was told in order to keep safe as possible.
I liked Mo. He is the ‘quiet man’ in this story. With four older sisters, an intimidating body type and a career in the military, I believe he learned early about the benefits of keeping quiet.
I liked Mo and Lottie together. I liked that Lottie called her “mound of hunkalicious boyfriend”. The time they did spend together was comfortable; they were opening up to one another, they enjoyed each other. And the physical attraction between them was hot.
So what didn’t work for me? For starters, Ashley’s writing style here. Ashley relies heavily on one word sentences or sentences with so many words that I often needed to reread to understand them. She’s employed this style before but I have read other books where her writing was much smoother and polished. I prefer the latter.
Like other books, a disproportionate amount of time is spent on the irrelevant. Why give people a running commentary on a house’s entire decor and not allow readers to spend more time with the characters? I would have loved to have more Lottie and Mo time. I would have loved to spend more time with Lottie’s and Mo’s families. Instead we learn about curtains and cushions.
Speaking of irrelevance, the mention of just about every Denver-based character in Ashley’s books was unnecessary. The majority of these characters played no role in this story, so why introduce them? If I was a new reader I would have felt totally overwhelmed. As a fan, I would have felt cheated.
Another thing I’ve noticed in Ashley’s more recent releases are the scenes designed to educate us on standards of behaviour. Both Lottie and Mo have interactions with secondary characters that did fit the story but my issue with them is that Ashley doesn’t know when to stop. We get it. There’s no need to continue bashing the point over the readers’ heads.
Finally, and this is a minor point, I was not really a fan of this book as the set up for the new Dream series. Quiet Man names all the couples and we’ve also learned more about the hero of the first book in the series than I felt was necessary. All the mystery and speculation is gone.
In conclusion, Quiet Man was more than an okay read but I can’t say that I universally liked it. What it has done is made me interested enough to want to read Dream Maker, the first book in the upcoming Dream series. Well played, Kristen Ashley, well played.
Let me start by saying that I loved the Rock Chick books. However, I just had a hard time getting into the book. I loved the parts with the Hot Bunch. I love Mo and Lottie, but I felt like after the action ended, the book just went on and on, and that is where I got lost. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.
I loved this book and can’t wait for the new series.
Once again, Kristen brings it home. She tells Lottie and Mo’s story with finesse and suspense, keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire story. As usual, this book has the Rock Chick humor throughout along with all the usual Rock Chick and Hot Bunch characters included along for the ride. The story line is engaging and compelling, as to be expected from the Queen of Romance!
Kristen Ashley is a character writer… She has a way of showing the character’s in several layers of humor, sorrow, witty that makes them real even though she is a famous stripper or a ex-military that is so quiet that he is interested.
Charlotte has a great family, great job and friends, what she does not have is a real boyfriend. She even has a stalker… Mo Morrison has friends and his sisters and mother that drive him crazy. However, his love life is the worst!
He is hired to protect “Lottie” and what he gets is a spitfire that rocks his world in a way that it is impossible to not fall in love with her.
Lottie is totally a great character and she is so involved in Mo’s way and life. This book is more of a novella but it is so good that you will want to read more about them and so look forward to the other books that are coming along for other characters.
It is really a good book! I loved it!
Loved, loved, loved this book! I felt like I was visiting family members that I hadn’t seen in forever. This book was hilarious, emotional, and was written with the Rock Chick flare from Kristen Ashley that I love reading! Lottie is one awesome chick while Mo is the quiet man. Boy did he rise right up there the Hot Bunch! This book made me want to reread the Rock Chicks again. Loved seeing the originals while I also loved meeting awesome new characters! I am excitedly waiting for KA’s next big read with the start of this new series!
Kristen Ashley is my very own brand of addiction. I am hopelessly and justifiably in love with her stories. Quiet Man was a massive hit of ecstasy for my heart. And the withdrawal is real and painful. For a reader who have read and re read Rock Chick series and Dream Man series multiple times, this story was finding Nirvana again. The impossible alpha man who is the ultimate fantasy. The sassy and sexy woman with heart of gold. Add Kristen Ashley’s unique, perfect, sharp and flawless writing and you have a winner.
I seriously want to know how Kristen Ashley does this every time. She definitely has a hot line to my heart and my libido. Lottie, the headliner at Smithie’s strip club is under threat by an anonymous fanatic. And Hawk Delgado’s man Mo is called upon duty. Now you need to read the previous books to realize the full impact. Each of these characters are legend. The location and landmarks are legend. I could not control the tears and goosebumps when I was reunited with some of my favorite characters ever. The relationship between Lottie and Mo’s is the centre of attraction of this story. And this is a new story alright. But Kristen Ashley took me back to the crazy world of rock chicks and badass alphas and I am delirious with happiness!
Mo is exactly what I needed him to be. Super protective and respectful of his woman. Uber bossy to the level of annoying. Fearless, calm, intense, gorgeous, intimidating, dangerous to enemies and above all a good man. Lottie may not be an original rock chick. But she is so by blood and by actions. I am awed by her so much. Her confidence, her openness to accept every good and bad thing about Mo, her compassion..it was a deadly combination. And let’s talk a second about the chemistry. Kristen Ashley created a tingling in my veins and ache deep in my chest so easily that it was terrifying. I smiled, I laughed, I swooned hard countless times and I cried tears of happiness and heartbreak. The adrenaline rush was exhilarating and intoxicating. And I didn’t want the ride to end. The warmth of the big expanding family of rock chicks and Hawk’s men was oddly comforting and overwhelming. The beautiful connection between friends and people in their lives in general made me stupidly emotional. But it was worth it.
Kristen Ashley can do nothing wrong when it comes to writing sensational, enthralling and mindblowing stories! This story touched my heart and soul deeply. I am craving more even after turning the last page. This is an incredible story of finding love and happiness in the most unusual situation that you CANNOT miss at any cost. Another stunning perfection from Kristen Ashley!

3.25 stars. This was a pretty good read for me. Quiet Man is Lottie, Jet’s sister/stripper and calender queen, and Mo’s, one of Hawk’s commandos, book. Lottie has not had luck finding love and has decided to give up and focus on her dream of becoming a mother via a sperm donor. But Smithie convinces her that she has time and should wait a year before going that route. In the meantime, she has a crazy stalker who is writing threatening letters to Smithie about her. Smithie hires her round the clock protection, through Hawk’s commando company, and she is assigned Mo. He is the strong silent type, but as they spend all their time together, the two fall for each other and Lottie gets her much longed for HEA.
This was not a bad story, but I never fully connected with this book. Lottie and Mo were fine characters, but they didn’t have strong personalities and were very similar to many other KA characters. It felt like Lottie just decided he would be the one for her. She pursues him. I don’t think he would have pursued her otherwise. It was instalove but I never felt it. There was not much chemistry and I didn’t really feel them falling in love. The book also did not have much tension and was mostly one note. The stalker/suspense storyline was very vague and not suspenseful at all, with it mainly being a catalyst for Mo and Lottie spending time together. Some of the timelines felt wonky. For example, Mo is not a manwhore, but one month before he met Lottie, he broke up with a woman who he was dating/living with for two years. Since then he has slept with two others too. I didn’t love that. I also found the book a little slow moving and the much of dialogue felt forced and unnatural.
Still, this was a pretty entertaining read. The story was interesting and I really like the set up for the new Dream Girl series. Lottie sets up Mo’s friends/fellow commandos with her stripper friends. I think the new series hold promise, especially the first book, Dream Maker, with the heroine, Evie. She sounds like a different kind of KA character, not a clone, as an engineering student/genius/self-described nerd/stripper. So I’m looking forward to that.
Overall, this was an easy, sweet read. While, Quiet Man is not my favorite KA book, but I still found it entertaining in general. I have hopes that the new series will be even better!
Gah! There is nothing I like more than a crossover that manages to capture the essence of both books in one. And let me tell you- Kristen Ashley nailed it with a big ol’ hammer in Quiet Man.
I loved that Lottie knew who she was. She wasn’t ashamed or embarrassed by what she did for a living because it wasn’t who she was. And she made sure the people in her life knew it. Especially Mo. The big, broody, bodyguard sent in to keep her safe when she starts receiving some creepy fan mail.
Thrust into close quarters, it didn’t take long for these two to develop feelings for each other. But being the professional that he is, Mo regretfully put his foot down. Her safety was much more important than their urges. The banter between these two, the innuendo, the way Lottie pushed Mo’s buttons made the anticipation so worth the wait.
The only thing I wish, was that the big showdown with the person responsible for Lottie needing Mo in the first place was a little more in depth. I wanted more of that danger and the satisfaction of the take down! I have died and gone to KA heaven. Kristen Ashley managed to seamlessly blend the Dream Man and Rock Chick series with Lottie and Mo’s story. And yes, all my favorite characters from both series make an appearance. I devoured this short and sexy book and wanted more.
So this was WORLDS better than the last six or seven books that this author has written. That said, it was still only an above average read for me. I’m giving it 4 because KA managed to come up with a storyline that wasn’t purely recycled drivel from other books that should never have been written. As usual, we have the Godforsaken act of inserting herself into the story, albeit in a much less in-your-face way than usual…but the mention of the Rock Chick books and Lottie knowing the author really made me roll my eyes at the entire chapter. There is much less Hot Bunch (oh, how I despise that term for the men of the RC series) involvement, zero Elvira, and a decent amount of focus on the men to come in the Dream Girl series.
Mo and Lottie were great and I really appreciate the way that we didn’t need eleventy million other POVs throughout this book. We actually got to focus on the people the book was about, which was a fabulous change from the last couple of years’ worth of releases. This book give me some hope for the series that it’s kicking off. Maybe that series won’t be complete junk. Maybe I’m not ready to break up with this author yet. I’m not about to preorder the first book from that series yet, but I’m also not automatically filing any mention of it in the NOPE stack. Hopefully, she’ll restore my faith in her writing ability, since she sure does know how to weave a good tale when she leaves the played out crutches of Lee Nightingale and Elvira as her sage voices of reason and experience in books where they truly don’t deserve huge pieces of plot.

What to do when you can’t act on that sizzling chemistry?
If you’ve read the Rock Chicks, you’ll want to read Quiet Man, it’s book 4.5 in Kristen’s Dream Man Series and also part of the 1001 Dark Nights World. Poor old Mo, he certainly had his work cut out for him with Charlotte ‘Lottie’ McAlister, I loved that he was big and strong but also that he was soft and sometimes insecure and Lottie, the girl who sometimes didn’t get a look in when Rock Chicks were around, finally got her story and her man. Mo and Lottie were so well suited and this was fun, short story with a bit of everything, romance, intrigue and suspense, what more could you want?
Now we need stories for Hawk’s men (Boone anyone?).

Fabulous! Amazing!
Lottie and Mo take the stage and what a show it was! We all know and love Lottie Mac, Queen of the Covert Calendar and stripper supreme Goddess. Mo well, Mo is a one of Hawk’s commando’s, a silent giant ready to take on Lottie’s case.
Lottie ends up with a creepy stalkers, and instead of worry her “Hot Bunch” family, Smithie (Yes that Smithie) sets her up with her very own body guard commando; enter Mo Morrison.
Mo and Lottie feel the pull of each other from the get go, but Mo is not willing to jeopardize Lottie’s safety. Follow the pair as they wade through stalker drama, family drama, welcome back the hot bunch, rock chicks and my personal favorite; TEX.
When things finally come to a head, my fellow RC’s and HB you will not be disappointed! King Scoopers blow out, sexy new commando’s who stories I can’t wait to read, and an ending that brought so much emotion I need my own personal disco nap after. The Supreme Queen Goddess, Ms. Kristen Ashley had taken us for another journey, wrapped us upped in the wonderful world of Dream Men/Dream girl that makes it hard to return to the real world. A one click buy and as always a five star review.
The queen has done it again! Kristen Ashley has given us a full length fabulously captivating story with all the feels, you’ll find it impossible to put the book down. Her story telling, as always, has perfect pacing that keeps you hooked and in love. Lotti & Mo… love, love them!
I’m completely infatuated with Lotti and all of her steely strength! She’s the perfect combination of compassion and moxy. I appreciate that she stands up for what she believes in and isn’t afraid to be who she is. That earns her devotion and respect from those around her and from me.
Mo, swoon! Yes, of course he thought Lottie was a hottie and he really had to fight to hide his attraction to her, but I really liked that his reactions to her were because of Lottie, not her body. He appreciated her for her. Extra swoon for Mo! And thank you to KA, she’s given us another hot bunch to drool over! Speaking of the hot bunch, they are in this book! Yes, they are back and just as yummy as ever!! I really, really enjoyed revisiting them! I’m now jonzing to reread Jett and Eddie’s story. Oh I’ve missed them all. I can’t wait for Mag and Evie’s story. This was a great story with lot’s goodies! A definite win for KA!
I read an ARC of this book. MY fair and honest review is voluntary.
I am living for this novella! Merging two of Kristen Ashley’s most beloved series, Quiet Man brings together the delicious commando, Mo from the Dream Man series and one of my all time favorite ladies, Lottie from the Rock Chick series. As always with Kristen Ashley’s writing the beauty is just overflowing in this. Her words more than once moving me to tears, the suspense adding that something extra to keep my heart racing and the romance completely sweeping me off my feet.
No one writes a hero quite like Kristen Ashley does, and Mo is most definitely a KA hero. Strong and silent does not begin to sum him up. While he may not be a man of many words his actions constantly scream just how amazing he is and when he does speak *sigh* my heart just could not handle it. The way he loves Lottie is nothing short of magnificent.
4 ‘Dream Man / Dream Girl’ Stars!
ARC provided by the author via Ink Slinger PR in exchange for an honest review.
If you are a fan of Kristen Ashley, I am sure you are familiar with her Dream Man series and her Rock Chick series. Well, what happens when you mix these two worlds in a novella? You get Quiet Man. Ever since KA announced this short story, I wanted to get my hands on it so badly and now I can say I enjoyed every second of reading this piece of writing.
So, Quiet Man, as I said, belongs in her Dream Man series but you’ll find characters from her Rock Chick series too. Mo Morrison is one of Hawk Delgado’s commandos (Mystery Man) and Lottie McAlister is Jet’s sister (Rock Chick Rescue). Lottie is a sassy and independent woman, working as a stripper and she wants more from her life. She is ready for the next step but she does not have a man. But what she does have is a stalker. Enter Mo. He is supposed to be her shadow 24/7 and that becomes a problem because of the sexual tension and the instant connection between him and Lottie. Has she finally found her dream man?
It was clear Lottie had claimed her man.
The end.
And he was that man.
I am a BIG fan of Kristen Ashley’s Dream Man series. I can’t say much about her Rock Chick series because it’s a long one and I only have read the first two books. But what I can say is that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novella that crossovers these two worlds. I loved Lottie and Mo together and how they put Lottie’s safety first before actually starting their relationship. But, oh boy.. When that starts, their chemistry is combustible! I also really loved catching up with some of my beloved KA characters and seeing this new couple get their HEA.
That was it.
He was the one.
I was his one.
And both of us knew it.
Therefore, my rating for Quiet Man is 4 STARS because I found it to be a great addition to the series and I loved seeing this crew of characters all over again. Also, of course, I enjoyed Mo and Lottie together, their connection and chemistry was on point. I love me some KA alpha and sassy KA heroine! If you like any of those two series by Kristen, I am sure you’ll enjoy this novella!
4.5 stars
Lottie Mac received a very specific threatening letter and her boss felt like she needed protection. As Eddie Chavez’s sister-in-law, the options are limited as her boss wanted to keep the threat minimized without stressing Lottie out. Contacting Hawk Delgado to get one of his commandos in seemed a more subtle play than calling either Eddie and the DPD or Lee Nightingale’s men.
Lottie has never worried about her career choice. She takes care of herself, can have nice things, and is near her family. But stripping does put her in a vulnerable place, because face it, people are judgemental. But she has never had a threat quite like the current one and she doesn’t like having a crazy person after her. She has a fierce streak that she uses towards her family and the people she loves.
Mo isn’t a talker. He isn’t a man women typically find attractive, which is fine for his line of work. I loved watching this big, stoic man fall unexpectedly for his principal. The job has never come second to a person before, and watching him struggle to keep Lottie feeling safe and protected while doing his job the way he needs to had me melting for him.
This is back to a classic Rock Chick feel. Yes, the decor and fashion descriptions are detailed, but that is part of the voice that KA has developed over the years. Her heroines are very precise about their outfits and furniture choices. But it is also a fast read with a hint of suspense and characters who can kick some a**. (And for a 1001 Nights novella, this is closer to novel length, so a great deal as well!)
I had fun reading this one. Returning to the Rock Chick world, Tex’s antics, and adding Mo’s sisters to the mix kept this one moving throughout. I have read the rest of the series, but for those who haven’t, it is a great way to get a sample of KA’s storytelling and an introduction to this crazy group of characters!
I received a copy for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
My only complaint about Quiet Man…I did not want it to end! It was fun going back to the Rock Chicks and the Hot men that stole their hearts. You don’t interact with the ladies as much, but when Lee is in the house, I am a pool of goo.
Lottie is strong willed and does not have a sad story as to why she dances at a strip club. She truly enjoys it and thrives off of it. She is genuine and just bad @$$! I love her and the journey she takes to move on to the next phase of her life. Her original plan being in it alone, was ballsy. But Mo enters the picture and I knew she would be okay.
KA puts a little suspense to the story line when things go into high alert for Lottie. You don’t get to see what the notes entail, but KA will make sure you get the picture of what is behind the scenes. You have the emotional development added and I fell for these characters.
I loved how my heart did a flop when Hawk was brought in along with Eddie, Hank, and the gang. Talk about hot commodity! I was envious of Lottie for all the love she got!
Quiet Man is a dose of what may come up next. I now want to know the other Commandos stories starting with Mo’s yummy roommate! My heart is happy at the end of the story and even though it is a Novella, I got the beginning, middle, and the perfect ending.
Sexy and fun with a little mystery and angst. Perfect combination. Nothing about this story was over the top except maybe the chemistry between Mo and Lottie. wow
I enjoyed these two tremendously and the story did not feel rushed or even short. There’s an insta connection to their lust but there was nothing insta to their growing chemistry. When they finally did go all in, it was delicious !!
Great beginning to a new series. I’m not sure I would have tied it to the Dream Man series instead of the Rock Chick series but that’s inconsequential since it is spinning off to its own series, Dream, in the future. I am super excited to read more about Evie and Mags 🙂
Ok so KA is one of my favs, everything I’ve read by her has been a hit, I’m always excited to read her stuff….but then this book happened. Let us start with the good. Great storyline, plot was engaging and interesting, Mo and Lottie and all the supporting characters were relatable and fun to read. Based on all those things I would 100% recommend this book. However. The obsessive and unnecessary use of parentheses made me want to stop reading. When I say obsessive amount, I mean EVERY OTHER PARAGRAPH has at least one (somtimes two) sets of them, normally during a characters inner dialogue. Not only were they completely 100% unnecessary over 90% of the time, they were completely distracting to the reader! I couldn’t get in a flow of reading because there were so many. It was so distracting and just plain irritating. This isn’t the case in her other books so I was really bummed. Because it was irritating to me and made me struggle to get into the book, I can only give this book 3.5 stars – that extra half is being generous.
Overall yes it’s a good book with good content, but the overuse of those parentheses made it hard to get in a rhythm and hard to want to continue to read it.
Rock Chicks and Dream Men combine in this novella in the 1001 Night series.
I have wanted more Lottie since we met her in the RC books, and any man who works with Hawk Delgado is alright with me!
I have been setting Lottie up in my mind with a few of the unattached men that have popped up in the series, however none could ever be the man that Mo is to Lottie.
They say it is the quiet ones you need to watch out for – well, watch him Lottie did. It was fun watching Mo struggle with his attraction to Lottie, who was not backwards in coming forwards about what she wanted.
And one thing that I loved – seeing all the Hot Bunch come to Lottie. One in, all in with those men. Sigh…. makes me want to go read the Rock Chicks books all … again!
Sometimes with these shorter stories, things can feel rushed, however that was not the case with Quiet Man. Because we have met these characters before and knew their stories, this was just another fabulous addition.
I want – no I need more!
