This is a MMFFM+ polyam series and Shara will never be forced to choose just one. #whychoose

If you are looking for a book full of vampires, danger, excitement, and plenty of steamy goodness then give this book a try.
This is a vampire book like no other, and by that I mean I wasn’t expecting it to be so different and original while also having the reverse harem aspect to it. This book is about a vampire queen who knew nothing and only that she was a normal human on the run from mysterious feral creatures she sees in the night. Who she runs into changes her life forever but in so many good ways because she now has love, and protection, but what she doesn’t realize is how many obstacles it brings her because she is the last of her line.
This book kept me reading for hours. When I started to realize how much I loved the first book I made sure to purchase all the other books because I can’t get enough of this series. All I want is more, because while this does have a lot of steam it also has a great story line as well as a wonderful romance.
Now this book may not be for everyone; this book does have a lot of blood in it, and very steamy scenes so I would only recommend this book to readers that are eighteen and over.
Here we are introduced to a completely new take on vampires. The story begins with Shara who while seemingly strong is very afraid and alone. Until she meets her knights that is. The guys help to begin her path of discovery of who she really is. A vampire queen.
Awesome book!!!! Great characters. I don’t do spoilers. Love this series and this author!!!

This book was really really good… The story was really interesting and keeps you hooked. The love was swoony and hot hot hot. I thought I would be turned off by the blood play but it is so wonderfully written it takes away the squeamishness. Daire & Rik are so amazing and devoted to our lovely Shara. Shara is thrown into this world but still is able to be tough and not afraid to take what she wants! GREAT read!
I’m only writing a review for the 1st book in this series, but my review applies to all 4 currently published books and the upcoming 5th book in this series. I ABSOLUTELY love love this series! It is beautifully written and very steamy! I recommend that if you plan on reading this 1st book, that you just go ahead and set aside plenty of time because once you read Queen takes Knights…you will absolutely want….no, need to read the rest. In order the book’s in this series are Queen takes Knights. Queen takes King. Queen takes Queen. Queen takes Rook. And soon to be released, Queen takes Checkmate.
LOVE IT!!!!!
A loving but kickass vampire queen. Tortured alpha males, plus lots of blood and panty melting passion makes this book into one of my favourite books. You just can’t help falling in love with all the characters.
Oh my goodness. I have re-read this series many times now and I will definitely return to it many times more. It never gets boring. I whis I could give it more than five stars.
If you love the writing of Laurell K Hamilton, especially the Merry Gentry series, then you will love this series. It’s a bit lighter but no less powerful. I recommend it to the stars and back.
So my friend Deanna has been raving about a lot of reverse harem lately, a new trend/trope in the romance community, particularly with indie authors. It seems that most of these stories are written in the young adult and new adult age groups, but I wanted to give it a shot and see what all the hoopla is about. The Their Vampire Queen seemed liked a good and steamy place to start, with each book being a quick read of about novella length.
Shara Isador grew up not knowing what she was or anything about her heritage. All Shara knew was that she was in constant danger, and both of her parents died protecting her. But when two handsome strangers come to Shara’s rescue one night in the middle of Arkansas, it begins an enlightening and awakening for Shara where she will learn her true nature, potential, and power.
So – I had a few feelings about the story. I really liked the premise and the potential set up for the series going forward. I liked our first two heroes, Rik and Dare. I liked the rock troll and the warcat. I liked the potential vampire politics that we may have going into future installments of the series. I liked the smutty sexytimes and the strong protective males willing to defer to their queen.
There were also some things that I did not like. This is a short story and everything happened really fast… like really fast. The story literally took place over 2-3 days. So that doesn’t leave much time for world building or plot development or falling in love (instalove on steroids). I felt like many of the details which would have interested me were glossed over, particularly with world building and the Egyptian mythology. Also – the blood. It seems like this story was written for people with a certain kink, namely blood play. Because nothing with blood is off limits. It got to be a little much for me. Finally, I felt like sometimes the writing was a bit immature and crass (i.e. “do you want fangs or dick?”). Erm… that doesn’t work for me.
Now, I know that our heroine is only 22 years old. But the female narrator of this tale sounds like a teeny bopper most of the time. Hearing her narrate a sexytime scene was awkward at best. The male narrator did a good job, even with the female parts. So I would like to see him narrate more in the future.
I will continue on with the series, because people rave about this one and it has a high rating average. I am also interested in the premise, so I hope this one improves as we progress further.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook that I received from the publisher, Tantor Audio.
First read by this author and first series
On the run from decaying monsters since the death and murder of her mother.. Shara is alone. Moving from town to town to keep one step ahead of the monsters, living and surviving hand to mouth taking on odd jobs when she can. Working as a maid for a hotel she’s on her way home after one last job, and knows she’s lingered too late this time.
Surrounded by the monsters she see no way out but death, until in the darkness come two strangers, Alrik a behemoth of a man and Daire a smiling assassin.. they are Amia, Vampires. Accepting their help is not something that independent strong willed survivor Shara would normally do… but they ‘feel’ right and safe and tell her more about herself than she would have ever guessed.
Wow this story packs a punch, not for the faint hearted ( let this be your trigger warning folks ).
This is a combination of true horror and splatter punk at its descriptive best mixed with a big heaping dollop of chemistry! Also if you like you reads clean or conservative ( as in m/f ) the this is not multi partnered then this isn’t the book for you.. ( which is ok… more for me!! )
Fast paced and action packed this book has taken the vampire trope and given it a brainteasingly original twist thereby creating an absolute gem of a read. It’s a refreshing breathe of fresh air to me, I’ve read too many of the same vamp books… and reminded me why I started reading vampire books so so many years ago!! ( well done Mz Burkhart, you have renewed my love for vamps which I had thought long gone )
Filled with a fantastically developed backstory that unfolds a great pace. My mind isnt given the chance to wander because the plot is too slow or confused because it’s too fast… it’s a steady drip feed of information that is administered perfectly.
Filled with richly developed and colourful Charachters! The developing relationship between Shara, Rik and Daire is again multilayered and I cannot wait to see how it grows and changes with the addition of other ‘bloods’ aswell as factoring in Shara’s own changes as she grows/ discovers her own powers and history…AND THIS IS JUST BOOK 1!!
I cannot wait to see how this story progresses and am diving into book two right now!
