Explains more about Mayte, was good but too short. I guess I am spoiled by Joely’s perfect lengthy books that have you mesmerized and very into the story.
Still a good read.
I think had I read this book before I read the others I would have enjoyed it more. However, I didn’t and although it was a good, short and steamy read I did read the others first. This one added nothing new to the story and now that I’ve read this one I know I can skip all of the other added novellas to the story because the books were much better.
This is a hot short story following Mayte. We met Mayte in TVQ series but here we get a unique peak into her world. Filled with all the adventure and steam the author is known for, I was hooked until the very last word.
Ooooooh… Here we learned how Mayte found the father of her little girl. To succeed she had some things to learn/admit about herself. It’s a hot short story that let’s you have a glimpse into Mayte’s past. I really enjoyed it. I can’t get enough of this universe.
I loved this story giving us a short glimpse into more of Mayte and her past and how she found her god. And also found the courage to reveal something this had been hiding
Queen Takes Jaguars tells the story of Mayte and her desire to find a sire for a daughter that she longs for. As always, the story telling and writing is exceptional! I’ve enjoyed reading this book as it tells us the backstory of Mayte and her men. A bit short but nevertheless, a great read!
I received a copy and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I love Mayte. I was so excited for her story and to learn more about her and her men. Joely did not disappoint! This book had all the things I wanted. It had the backstory, the smut and hits of what’s to come. Yes Mayte! The only thing I would change is the length of this story!
Overall: 5/5
Queen Takes Jaguars (Their Vampire Queen Book 7) Kindle Edition
by Joely Sue Burkhart
Joely Sue Burkhart revisits her world of the Aima with this new entry into the Their Vampire Queen World.
Instead of focussing on Shara, we venture into Mexico and Central America with Mayte, queen of that we met with Shara in Mexico.
Mayte is the last queen of the House Zaniyah. She wants, above all a daughter to carry on the line. But her uber-strong alpha can’t give that to her so see seeks out the Jaguar god.
Her search and fight to become pregnant is touching and erotic.
Told in the POV’s of Mayte and her Alpha, we see both sides of the story.
The mythology is well-researched and laid out easily.

Queen Takes Jaguars
This short story takes place in the universe of Their Vampire Queen series. Originally available in the Realms and Rebels boxset, it was re-released separately with the Princess Takes Unicorns short story. QTJ is Mayte’s story, and is a prequel to Shara’s story. It’s still part of Shara’sstory, but happens before she’s born. This is Mayte’s quest to try to fix the Aima curse and find a way to have a queen. I love this series, but if I had to rank them, I would say this is my least favourite in the series. It’s got a fair amount of pace to the story, but it just feels like it drags just a little bit compared to the others. I still really like the insight into Shara’s queen sib and seeing that much more into the Aima world, and I like it enough to have reread it a few times.
Princess Takes Unicorns
Originally, this was posted as a separate short story the author wrote. Since then, it has been bundled with Queen Takes Jaguars. Princess Takes Unicorn is Xochitl’s story, or the start of it at least. This is how the very young queen meets her first Blood, and a King at that. This is such a fun story. There’s no sex or anything like that, but it gives brilliant insight into Isis’ story, a bit more, as well as starting what I’m hoping will be another branch of the TVQ world. I love it; it’s so good.
