After reading this story I’m even more confirmed in my belief that women aren’t the weaker sex. Maybe physically but certainly not mentally. Anyone who can get through everything Sophie did at such a young age (15-16), with constant fear, heartbreak and mental pressure, feeling like the sacrificial lamb for the sake of her own family and also Peter’s and two whole countries, and still be able to keep a stone face. To hold her head high has to be a hero in my opinion. Also the very skill she displays in pretending to be lacking at things when the truth is she isn’t. shows great strength and fortitude that a lot of men couldn’t do especially at such a young age because their pride wouldn’t allow it. Such a good read! Thank you Sherry D. Ficklin.
Interesting fictionalized historical story.
A good telling of Catherine the Great. The transitions jerked too much to give an even flow to the narrative but the main chr was delightful.
Good read
Interesting perspective on Catherine the Great as a teenager.
A pretty good historical romance. Started out better than it finished.
Interesting use of voice.
I enjoyed this so much I bought the series.
Couldn’t finish the book. I got to chapter 12 and couldn’t go on. I realized that I wasn’t interested in this type of historical book swirling around espionage and deceit.
This is an interesting new persepective on Catherine the Great. It makes the reader feel connected to her in a way that may not be possible without the background of her younger, more formative years.
Unoriginal…
This was an interesting perspective of Catherine the Great’s life when she was young. Although it was a fictional account, it was great reading. It was very descriptive of everyday life in the court of Russia filled with intrigue and politics. I enjoyed it very much.
Gives dimension to historical figure Catherine of Russia. Fairly accurate in presentation of history and unmasks life at court for royalty. If interested in Russian history a fine story.
Good historical novel about 19th century Russia
I know is was fiction, but it is based upon a real person and real events. It was very well done and a nice read about what the early years of Catherine the Great might have been like. I enjoyed all of the characters. Very well written.
I cannot wait to start the next book.
It is an interesting plot, but moves too slowly, and has too many characters to ever develop. The writer didn’t have ten years, like Jane Austin, to work on her character development.
I really liked this one! Excited to read the rest of the series.
Great character developement. I loved the whole trilogy.
It was an enjoyable book . Good character development.
Thought this book was well researched and written.
