The woman I fell in love with is a walking contradiction…She’s sexy as hell, yet infuriating. Hopelessly in love with me, but carefully plotting to get the hell away. She honestly thinks that I’m the ‘king of lies’?Well, she f-cking fooled you…She’s the queen. This is book 2 in the Empire of Lies trilogy
This review is for all 3 books, since I can’t really recall where one ends, and the others begin.
First off, Michael was hot AF, even though he had some serious issues. It seemed like it would be easy to not like him, but for me it was quite the opposite. Guess it’s that bad boy attraction. Meredith has her own issues, too.
The way Michael and Meredith meet and subsequently “date” seems like this story is going to be a romantic comedy; something similar to some of Whitney’s other books. That isn’t the case, but that’s all I’ll say.
This story has a lot of twists and unexpected turns. Although the content was kind of heavy, the story read fairly light and quick. Some of the events are a bit far fetched, but that’s what makes it a good story. Romance reading is pure fantasy for me, and I suspend reality when I dive into a story. As you get to know Michael, you realize you don’t really know him. He’s not easily forgettable, that’s for certain.
This series is definitely different from what Whitney usually writes about. It was a passion project she wrote for herself, and I really enjoyed it. I love her other books, but I hope she continues to get out of her box with different material like this.
The man I fell in love with is a f*cking liar…
I don’t have much time to reveal all the details, but I will say this: The “Woman disappears after wedding” and “Woman flees before honeymoon” headlines are lying. I’m not missing.I didn’t run away after my wedding. I would’ve never run away right before our scheduled honeymoon.
My husband has taken me. Well once again I am so glad that I didn’t listen to the reviews on this book because it was brilliant, such a well written and thought out and addictive story line, with so many twists and turns, drama, sex, lies that it will make your head spin. The characters were perfect together with so much chemistry and heat the book was scorching hot. This was such a great read that I just read one after the other so I will be giving them all this review.
Just as addicting as the first book. I devoured it and I can’t recommend these books enough! Grab them now!
2,5
As with book one this could use a few more details and depth. It needs more feelings from the characters.
Although I was feeling a little teary when H dropped the h off at the B& B.
Book two reveals more unsuspecting twists. I read it one sitting. Off to read Legacy of Lies. Whitney G books.
Another great story by Miss Whitney! I can’t wait to dive into book 3!
This is a side of Whitney G I am really enjoying! I love the direction this story has taken and seeing more of Michael, his feelings, what happened to him in his past, and what has made him who he is. Great twists and I’m looking forward to the final installment to see how this will all play out.
This book picks up right at the cliff where King of Lies left us! Meredith is still Michael’s captive, but we now know why and at whose command. The lines are getting a little blurry and Trevor, Michael’s twin, is not happy with the way things are playing out.
We get more back story on Michael and Meredith, more understanding about who they are and some of the other players in this game. The twists and turns and heartbreaking past makes this book impossible to put down! I am loving this series and chewing my nails waiting for Legacy of Lies to release!
A very short part 2 of the series, only about 100 pages so less than an hour read. Still, lots happen even in this short part of the story, twists and turns, the slow reveal of the long story. There is less of a romance and steam than other books written by the author, but makes up for it in plot twists and suspense. Can’t wait for the full story to unfold.
Honest review after receiving an advanced reader copy.
So, this is the second instalment of this trilogy and we delve a bit deeper into Michael’s dark past. He and Meredith are still at odds but their chemistry is still very much alive and strong. Michael is still keeping his secrets close to his chest, so Meredith is very much in the dark and still clueless as to why she’s in her current position, and stubbornly persistent in her attempts to escape him. It’s sexy, dark, – somehow harrowing without the real details – and ending is pretty heartbreaking. Can’t wait to read the conclusion.
A King must have a Queen. He is dubbed the King of Lies by his unhappiest of brides but it seems his Queen isn’t quite as pristine as she wants us to believe.
These two make my heart race, my pulse spike, and my brain scream Yes and No almost simultaneously. I want to hate their relationship but its impossible. As messed up as they are, as Michael says I’m that “hopeless, starry-eyed reader”. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I will say Whitney G. has made me paranoid and I am going to pay closer attention to one star reviews on Goodreads from now on though! Lol. Whitney G. has opened up a whole new can of worms with her twisted sense of humor and darker desires. Be careful, Whitney we might not lt you back into the light after this!
While I hold out hope, with starry-eyed devotion, I will be panting for Legacy of Lies because there are many more truths to be told.
I can’t believe it, but this book is more deliciously dark than the first. Michael and Meredith are married and in love but now they’re enemies. There’s a hit in place for Meredith death and Michael decided to save her. How? Kidnapping her and keeping her away and hidden from everyone, including his twin.
Meredith, being the intelligent and scrappy woman she is, has been constantly trying to escape, sometimes getting as far as the street outside, but Michael always gets to her. It’s incredible the surveillance set up he has around her. She feels imprisoned but what she doesn’t know, she’s being kept safe. Every time Michael is near, she feels the chemistry, she feels the love, but she chooses to fuel the anger instead. It makes for great love-hate sex!
Even though Meredith is a great character, I loved Michael. He’s more complex, more layered. There are hints to a troubled childhood, pain shared with his twin. They have a personal agenda and a list of sixteen men who will face their final hour at the hand of Michael’s gun. There’s a dark and painful story here that needs to be read.
There’s more story here about the twin, Trevor, and their business. Their reputation as the A Brothers in the underground crime scene is scary dangerous. Even so, Trevor is adamant on the outcome of Michael’s mercy actions and pushes for an end. Michael has his own agenda. Interesting and riveting!
The story, that reads like the best page-turner there is, ends in another cliffhanger, or maybe I should say, impasse, and now we await for the final chapter that I think will go in any two ways, kaboom or HEA. No need to tell you which one gets my vote!
Queen of Lies by Whitney G. is the second book in her new Empire of Lies trilogy. Picking up from the cliffhanger ending in book one, King of Lies, leading us through even more dark and twisty backstory of Michael, how he met Meredith, the why’s behind his reasons for doing what he is doing to her and her realization that the man she married isn’t the monster she thought he was but also isn’t anything she would have suspected. Ends with a cliffhanger that will be resolved in the next book, Legacy of Lies. Enjoy!
Oh yeah, things just got super real! Super fast! This second book in the Empire of Lies series is wildly intense as Meredith gets more desperate for answers and Michael continues to keep her at bay. Until he doesn’t!
Whitney G is all kinds of clever as she gives us insight into the past and explains a bit more of the whys of Michael and his reasons for being overly mysterious as well as secrets Meredith was keeping in her own crazy life.
I couldn’t have guessed what was coming next and now I’m sitting here once again, trying my hardest not to rack my brain as to how it might all turn out.
A series you have to experience for yourself, it’s classic Whitney G, leaving us begging for more.
4 solid stars!!!
Michael, Michael, Michael…
You say this is no fairytale, that you’re not a hero.
But I can’t help to love you!!!
I don’t easily give 5 stars to “short” books, but here I am!
I couldn’t put this book down! Michael and Meredith’s journey is full of secrets and betrayals, and this story gets better and better with each page!
I love this new side of Whitney G.
It’s totally addictive, I love the pace, the present/past scenes, how we get hints in Michael’s background.
Yes, this book is darker, heartbreaking, but also beautiful, and I can’t wait to see the conclusion of this trilogy.

While this one only had a slight interest for me compared to the first book, I still need to know what happens in the final installment in this series!
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Queen of Lies is the second part of the Empire of Lies trilogy. Michael & Meredith’s story continues and we find out more about these characters and their previous lives giving us a little insight into what got them to this point, wondering if they will find their happily ever after or if this is how it ends for both of them.
Like Peeling am Onion..
The Empire of Lies Trilogy is the ultimate game of chess with each installment going for the checkmate to ultimately win the game. But will there be any winners? I don’t want to reveal any spoilers here, but I will say if you like great suspense with twists, turns, and a few gotcha moments, then you need to start this series. King of Lies starts the series as we slowly get a peak into the lives of Meredith and Michael, neither of whom are what they seem. Queen of Lies continues the mystery and more is revealed about their past, kind of like the layers of an onion. The more that’s revealed, the more we want to know! As another reviewer stated, the end revelation about Michael and his brother, Trevor is tragic and troubling. The end is a cliffhanger, but I personally can’t wait to see how Michael and Meredith are going to come out of the darkness that is their lives and hopefully find a little light at the end. Highly recommend!
Oh how I love a good suspense story that keeps you guessing. Queen of Lies doesn’t disappoint. Book 2 begins to unravel some of the mystery but leaves many more to figure out. I The more I learn the less I feel I know what’s happening. Who to trust and who not to trust. This book also ends in a stunning cliffhanger and I for one can’t wait to read it. I excited to read the last book in this trilogy and see how it ends. Micheal and Meredith hang on to your hats, I expect it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
This is the second book in the Empire of Lies Trilogy, an amazing Dark Romantic Suspense. I love the cover! The story continues where the first book left off. Meredith and Michael’s story is gripping! We learn more about Michael and Trevor’s horrible past, and a little more about Meredith. The story has intrigue, suspense, danger, secrets, and also humor. The scene with the Goodreads’s reviewers is absolutely genius, and hilarious! The story ends with a cliffhanger. I absolutely love this Series, and I can’t wait to read the next and last book in this amazing trilogy. I need to know what happens next! While waiting, I will listen to Mister Weston (Gillian’s story). The author wrote this story for herself, but I am so glad she decided to share it with us! We need more!
