Logan Hunter is a bestselling author with a penchant for the ladies. Kendall Theron, his efficient publicist is prim and colorless—at least on the surface. Beneath the proper facade is a woman who will do anything to protect her family, even if it’s not quite legal. Kendall, knowing her boss’s propensity for the fair sex, has replicated herself into a lady who should hold no appeal for the … charismatic charmer she works for. She’s even added a Mrs. in front of her name for an extra layer of protection. If her boss ever turns those sharp eyes on her, if his curiosity is unleashed and he digs up her secrets, the results could mean jail time.
It’s taken Logan Hunter nearly three years to discover there’s more to his employee than meets the eye. An unplanned kiss that ignites them both has him looking at his publicist in a whole new light. He soon learns that the woman he thought he knew doesn’t exist, her persona an illusion. Everything she’s told him is a lie and he’s determined to find out why.

“Queen of Diamonds” was a lot of fun and kept me on the edge of my seat. A best-selling author, Logan, and his assistant, Kendall, spent three years working together, yet Logan didn’t really know her. Kendall had a secret life that no one knew about. She went beyond what most would do for their family. That path led her to a secret life that was completely opposite of what people thought of her. It made the book a page-turner to see what would happen next. The interaction between Kendall and Logan was entertaining, but I really loved the relationship that developed between Logan and Kendall’s family. A quick but satisfying read that kept me guessing how it would resolve itself until the very end. If you love suspenseful romance with a strong female character, this book is for you.
Queen of Diamonds by Sandra Cox is a quick read, I finished it in a day and it’s because of her terse, two-dimensional style of focusing on her characters and plot, without any unnecessary descriptions. Kendall and her love for family would warm your heart. Logan’s attraction for his publicist has been handled astutely, giving enough time for emotions to thaw and unravel.
Cox’s understanding of relationships shines through her words, which endow her with the superb skill of building them, as Carolina’s bonding with Logan clearly shows. The queen of diamonds has been portrayed with great insight and I admire her confidence and determination. Sandra keeps you guessing till the end and I heaved a sigh a relief when she drops the final bomb! A fantastic book!
This was an excellent story of intrigue and adventure. I loved the characters. The sexually charged atmosphere between Logan and Queenie was titillating. The best character was Caroline, she added another element to the story. A great romance with thrilling adventure. Lots of heat but no graphic sex, a great read for any age.
I found this book to be wickedly delicious! The book pulled me in right away, and I couldn’t put it down! I loved this! Kendall has a few secrets, and once her sexy boss, Logan, figures out one secret, he has to know the rest. The passion between Kendall and Logan is smoldering, and the dialogue is witty. I love her writing style! This is the fifth book I’ve read of hers, and I can’t get enough!
I have read several books penned by author, Sandra Cox. I keep going back to the well because I know that if I’m looking for a great story that is well crafted, a Sandra Cox novel will hit that mark. Queen of Diamonds certainly hits that mark. She had me at the blurb… and that doesn’t happen very often. I usually click on the “look inside” feature before determining if I am interested in reading a book.
The author has a way of building characters that play off one another with a style and ease that draws you deep into the story. Kendall and her boss, bestselling mystery writer, Logan Hunter have the cat and mouse interaction routine down pat. He is successful, good looking, and he likes the ladies. His publicist, Kendall, down plays her good looks and tries to keep everything all business when around Mr. Hunter. But hiding her good looks is only one of the many secrets she is keeping. She has a family her boss doesn’t know about and a side job that helps pay for her sick mother’s medical and caretaker expenses. But when two attractive people spend a lot of time together… and one has an eye for the ladies, and the other is suppressing smoldering sexual feelings deep down inside, there is bound to be tension between the two. And an unexpected kiss lights a flame between them that is hard to put out, no matter how much Kendall tries to ignore the obvious.
The more that Mr. Hunter tries to push his way into her life, the harder it becomes for Kendall to keep her secrets. As a mystery writer, Logan feels it is his job to uncover the mysteries right under his nose. So, he sets out to discover why the life his publicist portrays to him all seems to be a big lie. And a funny thing happens on the way to the truth – he falls in love. Now, he just has to get her to come to that same realization.
This is an enjoyable book. It reminds me of the Bernie Rhodenbarr books by Lawrence Block mixed with the Fox and O’Hare novels by Janet Evanovich. Not necessarily the plot lines–although all feature a regular man/woman, master thief with a heart, element–but the essence of the characters and the way they interact with each other using crisp, sharp and snappy dialog centered around denial and secrets yet to be discovered.
If you haven’t read anything by Sandra Cox, this is a great story with a fun plot, making it the perfect book to discover a terrific storyteller. This is truly a 5 star reading experience.
Kendall with her two jobs and secrets leads a complicated life. What makes it worse is Logan Hunter, her boss who takes a sudden interest in her. The romance between them was fun and delightful. Kendall’s daughter and father were beautiful as supporting characters. Liked the story.
5 Stars!
Queen of Diamonds is the 1st book I’ve read by Sandra Cox and won’t be my last! Logan is a rich, best-selling author. Kendall is his efficient publicist. For several years, Kendall has worked alongside him in his home and Logan never suspected she was anything other than a married, mousy woman. But int he blink of an eye, her true beauty is revealed, as is her personal life. But what is truth and what is fiction? And why does he even care? He’s a playboy, not ready to settle down. But something about Kendall speaks to him and for the first time, he’s thinking about a woman and not himself.
Kendall has a lot on her plate; a full-time job, a young daughter and father at home, and a mom suffering from Alzheimer’s and living in an expensive nursing home. Her day job pays the rent and puts food on the table. It doesn’t pay for her mother’s care, so Kendall borrows a plot from one of Logan’s best-sellers and turns to a life of crime to pay her mother’s bills. Trouble is it’s getting harder for her to keep her secret, especially when Logan starts showing an interest in her and asks a lot of questions.
From Logan shedding his millionaire playboy lifestyle to become a man of principals and morals to Kendall (sometimes grudgingly) having a change of heart toward his carefree lifestyle, this story is a lot of fun and sure to win over your interest by the end of the 1st chapter. Watching these two bond and Logan unraveling the mystery of his assistant, not to mention the heat sexual tension between them, you’ll fall in love with these two as fast as I did, and Kendall’s daughter, who is very smart for her age.
