Short-novel prequel to the bestselling crime fiction thriller mystery and police procedural series featuring forensic investigator, Reilly Steel.
Forty miles south of Washington, D.C. lies the small town of Quantico. Situated among lush greenery, the 547 acre property is where FBI recruits run obstacle courses, engage in firearms training and participate in mock hostage scenarios in Hogan’s … scenarios in Hogan’s Alley.
It’s the world budding forensic investigator Reilly Steel was born for.
During her first student semester at the Academy, a fatal accident occurs at a student party off-campus, and a fellow recruit is under suspicion. But by the behavior of the other students and the forensic evidence at the crime scene, Reilly guesses that there is more to the story than meets the eye.
Will her instincts, and everything she’s learnt at Quantico so far help Reilly uncover the truth behind the victim’s death?

Wasn’t up to par with the rest of the series
It’s great! Very interesting
I usually love Casey Hill’s books. This one I did NOT love. The writing is flowery, excessive, and juvenile. I’m not sure if this was Ms Hill’s junior high school writing project, or if it was ghost-written by one of her nieces, but it is awful. Do not spend $$ on this book!
One of the best authors
Its the beginning of the Steele character. Very good. The character reminded me of Jody Foster in “Silence of the Lambs”. Very fun read but short.
The book was entertaining enough but the premise was a bit shaky. I can’t see a Quantico Instructor enlisting the aid of a first month recruit to go sleuthing. I also had trouble with one of the characters. He was depicted as a totally self-absorbed jerk then kind of a nudnik, then all of a sudden he’s this reliable, credible agent/instructor. There were also a number of editing- type errors in the book (certainly not the author’s fault).
Why do books of this ilk always have to have blue eyed blondes who look like film stars as the heroine. She’s also super human and has the sense of smell that a dog would envy. I’m rapidly getting bored with this after trying to be open to new stories.
Why don’t we have boxes with “predictable” or “tedious” on this review page.
Nice short entertaining introduction to Reilly Steel at the beginning of her career with a unique plot.
