From the first moment I saw Janny Moore’s sparkling eyes and luminous smile, I’ve been obsessed with the idea of getting to know her…watching. She’s everything I need in my life, now I just have to convince her. She’s never set eyes on me, she has no idea I exist…but she will.

This is the story of Kyle McKenzie, an ex-cop turned private investigator and Janny Moore, the young lady who Kyle is obsessed with and desperate to get to know. I’m a sucker for stories told from a dual point of view and couldn’t have asked for more when I soon realized that this was how it was going to be. Familiarizing myself with each of them and what they were thinking as the story unfolds literally had me stuck to the pages. And the beginning! Wow, even though they hadn’t quite met, to say it was titillating is putting it mildly!
“I’m glad I noticed you sitting here. I didn’t get your name the other night and I regretted it.”
The chemistry between them is palpable throughout the read; however, I sensed that there was more going on than just two people’s deep attraction for one another. Even though Kyle is a strong alpha male, I could feel a sensitive side to him which was one of the reasons I connected to him so easily. Probably why this young sassy gal, Janny, was affected by him, too. She thought she knew what she wanted but Kyle throws her a curve-ball.
There is a back story and it’s fair to say one shouldn’t be fooled into thinking it’s a run of the mill romantic erotic book. It’s so much more than that. There were times as things progressed that I had many mixed feelings regarding the depths of their emotional level causing some shout out loud moments. Believe me, that got me a couple of strange looks from my better half! What I can say is being testament to the author’s beautiful flowing storytelling technique and his ability to grab my attention will hopefully be the same for many other readers.
“What are we doing?”
“We’re eating breakfast.”
“That’s not what I meant. What do you want from me, from us?”
Mystery and intrigue along with secrets and lies abound. Half the time, I found myself cursing since unexpected happenings frustrated me. And I have no doubt whatsoever that these details were the making for such a good read. Delving into it, I easily forgot my surroundings. Alas, when real life got in the way is when I became aware that I had to put this unputdownable book down! The supporting characters are an interesting bunch of people and I liked how they worked into the story. Add the right mix of romance, angst and hotness and oh my, no shortage of hotness here, had me entranced.
Sometimes it’s very difficult to convey how much you love a book, how it makes you feel and how impressive the creation is at drawing you in. Jacob Chance certainly has the talent to do just that. I highly recommend readers to take a chance. (No pun intended!) I look forward to seeing what comes next and I predict a very rosy future in the indie author world for Jacob. I’ve struggled to pick up another book and the only solution was to go back and read Quake.
Please see my review of Delude.
Great story! Well done, Jacob!
Quake was a debut novella by Jacob Chance. It took me a bit to get into the book compared to the author’s other books I have read. Once I got into it, I really liked it. The book was written in dual point of view, which the reader gets a really good idea of the main characters. I thought it was used effectively. Quake certainly had plenty of drama and steamy sex scenes. The book ends in a cliffhanger, and thankfully the series has been released. Overall, I really liked the book.
When Janny literally bumps into Kyle at Quake, she has no idea she would be seeing him again. Even though he’s older she is very much attracted to him as they spend time together. But Kyle has secrets, and they can’t stay buried for long. Especially since he’s fallen for her too.
This is a great debut book that is steamy, has romance, drama, & suspense. Kyle finds it hard to let go of Janny & holds onto his secret. Janny lets her walls down & allows Kyle in, only to be devastated when she finds out what he’s been hiding. This book is a page-turner & ends in a cliffhanger. Moving on to the next book!
This book got me addicted to Jacob Chance I love his writing and what’s not to love about it. His characters absolutely grow on you and don’t forget them..
Jacob Chance has a huge problem on his hands—he set the bar so high on HIMSELF that his next book has some pretty big shoes to fill. I’m seriously taken back with the fact that Quake is his debut novel.
Janny Moore and Kyle McKenzie have both lost more than anyone should have to. Yet, these two are intelligent, caring and considerate people who miraculously carry on with their lives.
The two of them literally bump into each other at a Quake, a nightclub. I want to say that fate has led Janny and Kyle to meet, but because of Kyle’s line of work, Janny’s thinking otherwise.
Quake is fabulous—it has the perfect balance of hot sex, suspense, angst, and love. I swear, other than a few comma’s, maybe a parenthesis here and there, this book was written nearly flawless. Each chapter held my interest; I only put it down when I was finished. I adored Janny and Kyle—they deserve to have a HEA. The ending? Yeah, I didn’t see that coming—a major cliffie that made me want to throw my iPad across the room. But I didn’t because I know that the author already is busy writing the second book ~ I know this because I threatened him in an-ever-so-friendly way.
I can’t rave enough about Quake. I’m really looking forward to what the future holds for Jacob Chance. I positively recommend this book, and I wish I could have written a proper review in more detail, but I was given this ARC for an honest review. With so much talent, this was hands down, a five star read for me.
This is my first book by this author but definitely not my last! Quake is a true romance. I fell in love with Janny and Kyle and am ready to continue their journey in Quiver. Both Janny and Kyle are broken and lost but together true happiness is found. And the steam and heat. Wow!!! This is a great romance! Thanks, Jacob!
What can I say? I loved this book. Well I loved it all the way up until the end…. where it left us hanging! Really? As great as it was going and it left us? I’m jumping straight into the next book now. Can’t wait to see what happens.
I gave this a high rating because I really liked the book. I’m I suprised or disappointed in the book? Not at all, I like suspense and a change to what would be an expected outcome. This book kept my interest and I didn’t want to put it down.
Kyle is working a PI case looking for unethical doings of Bryan for his wife Sharon. She can’t pinpoint what he is doing wrong but her gut tells her it is something.
Kyle and Derek set up the typical surveillance and what Kyle finds has his heart beating fast and absolutely nothing to do with his case. Janny, Bryan’s sister brings him the strongest desire he has ever felt and he knows he needs to leave her alone. But 2 chance encounters and he believes the universe is trying to tell him something.
Kyle isn’t the only one wondering what could be. Janny can’t help thinking about the stranger she has bumped into, twice.
Secrets can hurt you. Some secrets can kill you. One torrid romance built on the precipice of a lie just may crumble under the weight.
I liked the build-up of this story and how Jacob has laid it out without really backtracking as some do. I am rooting for Kyle and Janny and truly hope the devastating turn we got at the end is not truly the end. Quiver is the next book in this series and I hope to see a happier day for these two as well as the other characters in the story.
Kyle’s parents died when he was 23 and he brought his fifteen year old sister Kenna up. He was in the police force but got shot while on duty, as a result he was going to be stuck behind a desk. His best mate Derek and him go into a private investigator business together. When he’s watching the surveillance camera he sees her and is thrown into a head spin. Janie Moore lost her parents and high school boyfriend in a fire at her family home. She’s never let anyone close to her heart again. A night out at Quake finds Jannie in Kyles arms when they both literally crash into one another. Over time romance blooms between them. Then everything turns to dust when she finds out that he knew about her before they started going out.
Kyle and Janny’s story is an emotional journey filled with lust, lies and love that will keep readers engrossed from the start. I cannot wait to read the second part. Jacob chance has a way of writing that lets you feel connected to the story and the people in it. As soon as I read the prologue to this book I was hooked, and did not but it down until I was done.
The first time I read the synopsis of this book, I was intrigued. It was definitely my kind of read, and a brand new author? I love them, always willing to give the new indie’s a chance.
From page 1, you’d NEVER know that this was a debut novel by Jacob.
This book blew my mind. It flowed seamlessly and kept my attention. The two main characters Kyle and Janny are very relatable, which is another plus. Both have heartbreaking pasts that they deal with, one is just biding time until the inevitable end, and the other trying to make the future a little brighter to dim out the ghosts of the past.
Their meeting is a little unconventional, but you know Fate. She’s a fickle thing and she likes to play with people which is why she kept pushing Kyle and Janny together. And let me tell you, when they’re together, it’s HOT! Kyle is a super sexy, dirty talking alpha that will give you tingles in all the right places. And Janny is the lucky girl that all those delicious words are aimed at.
There is one scene that might be difficult for some readers, if there are any trigger issues, but it’s very short and not graphic. There is also a cliffhanger, and I’m actually ok with this one because book 2, Quiver will be out in September.
I’m very excited to see where Jacob takes these two, and even more excited about his future works. He is definitely an author to keep your eye on!
Sexy duet
This was my first duet by this author and I must say it was a sexy, suspenseful, rollercoaster of a ride. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
I read the Quake/Quiver duet with extended epilogue.
I couldn’t put it down. I started it & couldn’t stop until I was done & it was very early in the morning. I enjoyed it very much until the end. It would have been 5 but the end made me take away points.
In Quake we get to know Kyle & Janny. Kyle is a PI on a case for Janny’s sister in law when he sees Janny on a surveillance camera & desires her. Thankfully they meet by coincidence & get to know one another. Their relationship makes my heart swell & their passion makes my temperature rise but their secrets & obstacles could tear them apart.
In Quiver, Kyle’s biggest secret finally catches up with them & threatens to tear them apart for good. My heart fell, I teared up and clutched my chest the pain was so real. There’s also another antagonist introduced that builds the suspense.
It does end with an HEA for Kyle & Janny and I love extended epilogue’s because I like it when the story is buttoned up & you get see a ‘where are they now’. BUT the new antagonist plot just dropped off & left me saying What The? I still plan to read more of Jacobs works because I really like his stuff & maybe one of those will button it up for me but until I get there I’ll keep saying What The? For this one.
I enjoyed this Debut book Quake by Jacob Chance. I found the book easy to connect with, I love a good Chance meeting so loved the fact that even though Kyle had seen Janny before (oh and he has seen her alright) there meeting was completely by accident. It is also told from Dual Perspectives.
I loved how the story unfolded and the sex was so freakin hot and steamy. I loved the age gap between them, it works. ( it’s only like 10 years) There was still something about Bryan that I thought was odd, and I was correct. There were 2 times throughout this book that my heart was in my throat one of those spots ended with a To be continued………. After it. Thank god for Chapter 1 of Book 2 Quiver I say.
Great little read finished it in one sitting and can’t wait for book 2.
Quake is the first book in the duet by Jacob Chance. This is a story about Kyle McKenzie and Janny Moore. Kyle is an ex cop turned PI who is hired to investigate Bryan, Janny’s brother. Kyle first sees Janny on the surveillance cameras that where set up in the Moore home, he was instantly curious who she was as well as attracted to her.
By a chance of fate Kyle runs into Janny several times before he asks her out. But he has a secret that he’s keeping from her as their relationship progresses.
Both characters have a past that they try to keep from talking about, tragic as it may be they open to one another and bond.
Jacob Chance brings the right amount of build-up in this steady paced story. There’s no lull found. Definitely a recommended book!
Awesome
An emotional story that is written in both points of view which I really enjoyed. We meet Kyle and Janny and are taken on a journey full of lies, lust and love. We see their relationship grow stronger and their sexual chemistry combust. However, secrets are revealed and we’re left with turmoil and sadness. Can their budding relationship endure? Jacob Chance’s debut totally rocked my senses and left me wanting more. I’m off to read the conclusion now in Quiver.
