There’s something special about Max. He may look like your regular ginger flabby tabby, but unlike most tabbies, he can actually communicate with his human, reporter for the Hampton Cove Gazette Odelia Poole. Max takes a keen interest in the goings-on in their small town, by snooping around with his best friends Dooley, a not-too-bright ragamuffin, and Harriet, a gorgeous white Persian. Their … regular visits to the police station, the barbershop and the doctor’s office provide them with those precious and exclusive scoops that have made Odelia the number one reporter in town.
But when suddenly the body of a bestselling writer is discovered buried in the last Long Island outhouse, and a new policeman arrives in town to solve the murder, it looks like things are about to change in Hampton Cove. Detective Chase Kingsley doesn’t take kindly to nosy reporters like Odelia snooping around his crime scene or interviewing his suspects. And to make matters worse, he’s got a cat of his own in Brutus, a buff, black bully, who, just like his owner, likes to lay down the law. Soon Brutus isn’t just restricting access to the police station, but he’s putting the moves on Harriet, breaking up the band.
Now it’s all Odelia, Max and Dooley can do to try and solve the murder, in spite of Detective Kingsley’s and Brutus’s protestations, and show the overbearing cop and his bullyragging feline how things are done in Hampton Cove. Will Odelia find the killer before Detective Kingsley does? And will Max prevent Brutus from moving in on his territory and taking over the town? Find out in Purrfect Murder, the first book in the new Mysteries of Max series.

Another light hearted cozy mystery to relax this weekend. I like picking cozy mysteries that have dogs, cats, horses in them and this story has Odelia Poole that can talk to cats and gets a lot of help from her tabby cat, Max, Dooley and Harriet writing a story for the Hampton Cove Gazette. Max likes to check out what is going on in their small town and does a lot of snooping with his best friend Dooley, a not-too-bright ragamuffin, and Harriet, a gorgeous white Persian.

There looks like there might be a romantic connection in the future for Odelia and Chase but you will have to read or listen to the audiobook.
Odelia Poole is a reporter for the Hampton
Cove Gazette. She has a flabby, ginger
tabby cat named Max. Max claims his
color as Blorange which is a mixture of
blond + orange. Max and Odelia are able
to talk with each other. Odelia’s mother
owns Harriet, the white Persian cat.
Odelia’s grandmother owns Dooley, a
beige ragamuffin cat. The Poole women
are all able to communicate with cats.
There is a new cat in the neighborhood.
His name is Brutus. He is a black bully.
He arrived with the new Detective Chase
Kingsley.
Odelia and Detective Kingsley clash when
a writer who has been missing turns up
dead. Detective Kingsley does not think a
civilian should get involved in police work.
But that stop Odelia, Max & Dooley from
investigating.
Creative characters and entertaining fur
babies make for a good read. Loved the
interactions of the cats & Odelia.
Author Nic Saint has given us a furry hero in Max, the cat that belongs to Odelia. Odelia works for the local newspaper as a reporter, and she can talk to and understand cats. This is Odelia’s edge in reporting; she has Max to do some leg work for her. Odelia’s father is the town doctor, her mother runs the town library, her uncle is the chief of police, and her grandmother divides her time between the doctor’s office and the library. The first sign that anything is amiss in town is the appearance of Brutus, a black cat that proves to be a bully who throws his weight around. Turns out, Brutus belongs to a new cop Chase. Then there is a murder discovered and Odelia becomes competitive and races Chase to find the killer. The chapters alternate, giving us Max’s viewpoint and then Odelia’s in the next chapter. It was an interesting outing, even though I felt cheated because the cats and the humans had information I wasn’t given. I will read more of these books.
I loved meeting Max and his fuzzy friends in this first in series from Nic Saint. It’s great to see Max’s point of view as he helps solve the mystery. A great read. Fun, enjoyable, and well thought out. And there are a ton more books in this series to enjoy. Bring on more of the adorable furry sleuth!
There wasn’t really much to the characters. Lots of bathroom humor. Lots of rambling.
OMG, I am so in love with this book!!!
First of all, the cat (Max) reminded me so much of a friend of mine-the rhythm and vocab-the cat and my friend became one. There were laughter tears in my eyes as I read. Great read!
The story is about a family of cats and their humans who live in a small town where the heroine is a reporter for the local paper and her uncle is the Chief of Police. Mixed into the story is a hot, displaced, New York City Detective who doesn’t approve of the way the locals investigate crime.
If you love cats, you’ll love this book. I have to read the entire series.
Hazel is a photographer in a little mountain town. Slowly, she starts to see strangers in the background of her pictures. When one of her clients is shot in her shop, she wants to find the killer. And, she starts to think the murder is related to a murder that had happened when she didn’t live there. Sheriff Cross wants her to stay out of the case to keep her safe. This mystery has cute characters and an interesting plot.
