There is need. And then there is Fate. Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn’t exactly awesome–especially when Alexandria’s other half is everywhere she goes. Seth’s in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom–so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with … her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do–and sacrifice–for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies–lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon–and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn’t blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude–or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

I really enjoyed this second installment! We got to know Seth better, and I definitely love him! The ending was fantastic.
“Ever since I’ve met you, I’ve wanted to break every rule.” Aiden turned away, the muscles on his neck tensing. He sighed. “You’ll become the center of someone’s world one day. And he’ll be the luckiest son of bitch on this earth.”
This book gets to me every time. It doesn’t matter how many times I read it there are certain parts that always rip my heart out and make me cry. And there are also parts that make me so angry that I wish I could actually reach into the book and hit a character. Actually it’s more like a few characters that I would like to be able to do that with.
I love Aiden, but this book also makes me hate him. When Aiden takes Alex on a surprise trip to the zoo to give her a day to just be a normal person and to have a break, Alex realizes that she loves him. The only problem is that it’s still forbidden for Halfs and Pures to be together because of the Breed Law. Because of this Aiden tells Alex that they can never be together and in the process he breaks her heart. I understand all of this and while I know that it’s hurting Aiden as well it still makes my heart break for Alex.
Something happens part way through this book that just breaks Alex. And surprisingly enough, Seth is the one that is there for her. He makes sure that she has the time to process the loss that she’s been dealt and he is the one that gets her out of the bed and functioning again. We get to see that Seth does have a soft side to him, at least when it comes to Alex. He’s also there for her while they are in New York for the Council session. You can see Alex and Seth getting closer and even though it hurts, because I want to see her with Aiden, I’m glad that she has Seth.
I love this book so much and there’s so much that happens, especially in the last few chapters, that I can’t wait to read Deity.
Can Alex ever catch a break? There is only so much loss, heartbreak and attempts on her life a girl can take.
It was revealed in Half-Blood that Half Bloods can in fact be turned into Daimons. This surprising information has changed everything because up to that point, the Covenant thought that only Pures could be turned into Daimons. If the Halfs thought that they were restricted before, they haven’t seen anything yet. Nothing will ever be the same.
Alex continues her training with Aiden after she faced off with her mom at the end of Half-Blood. Things continue to be complicated between them, because while they are immensely attracted to each other, relationships between Halfs and Pures are still very much forbidden, and with the knowledge that Halfs can be turned into Daimons coming to light, that particular law is not likely to change any time soon. That still doesn’t stop them to share lingering glances, the occasional tender brushes of hands and couple of soul shattering kisses. Those moments made my heart soar but at the same time it made me feel so incredibly sad, because I cannot even imagine how torturous it has to be for both of them. To want someone so much but not being able to have them without some serious repercussions.
I love Aiden, I really really do. He has so much strength and self-control. It is obvious how much he cares for Alex, but because he does not want to ruin her future he decides to take a step back which also causes him to break her heart. And while I want to be angry at him for causing that girl anymore pain, I cannot help but admire him because it shows how much he truly cares for Alex, which is infinitely more than he lets on. It’s true when when say actions speak louder than words when it comes to Aiden. And while I hated to see him him act cold and indifferent, it was those moments when he let his mask slip that really counted.
Alex is not quite sure what the future holds, with many changes taking place. She is the second Apollyon, a special kind of Half that once she awakens when she turns 18 she will be able to control all five elements plus Akasha, the fifth element. She has a lot to deal with in this book and I really admire the hell out of this girl. She is incredibly strong, brave, stubborn, loyal, caring, sassy and protective. While she can be very impulsive and often acts before she thinks which tends to get her into a whole lot of trouble, her heart is always in the right place. My heart broke for her so many times while I read Pure and sometimes the emotions got so much that I could not stop my eyes from misting over. It felt like I was connected to her and was able to feel her loss and heartbreak.
Seth has been assigned as Alex’s second trainer, which means that those two have to spend a lot more time together. While Alex wanted to stab him on multiple of occasions, they also could not help but get a bit closer with how much time they were spending together. Seth was there for her when she needed it and it seems that he always has her back, though I cannot help but wonder if that’s all part of some agenda. While he might genuinely care for her, I feel like there is some major ploy at works here and that he is not being entirely honest with Alex about a lot of things, especially about what it means for her to be the second Apollyon.
Deacon, Aiden’s younger brother, is fast becoming one of my favourite characters. He is so easy going and does not care what other people think of him. I love how he is there for Alex when other Pures do not want anything to do with the Halfs. And the scene where he told Alex that he is throwing a birthday party for Aiden brought smile to my face because I remembered Deacon’s birthday checklist that Jen has uploaded which Aiden found and swiftly made changes to it.
We also get to meet the some other Ministers besides Lucian, Alex’s step-father, and some of them deserve swift kick to the place where the sun doesn’t shine. Especially Head Minister Telly. I swear, I wanted to reach into the pages and throttle him, and not in the fun, loving way but in a way that would really hurt and would quite possible made him rethink his stance on a lot of things, especially his view of Halfs.
Pure is an action-packed book that will make you want to do nothing but sit down and read this book. I am in awe of the world that Jennifer has created and I honestly cannot get enough of this amazing series. I have no doubt that Jen has a lot more surprises in store for us and I cannot wait to uncover each and every one of them.
(Reread Review)
I love this series, Greek mythology is on of my favorites themes and this story is so amazing and in this book we start to get some hints of what is going to happen and what is the big plot in this series. This is not my first time reading Covenant but now rereading some moments I get some hints and passages that I completely overlooked the first time! Specially the Oracle speech, now I get it!! And OMG she says everything!! When you know what she is talking about you totally see through the nonsense.
Pure has some major hard moments, there is a loss in this book that breaks me completely, I cry every time! Also the whole thing about forbidden feelings between Alex and Aiden gets a new and hurtful twist in this book…. There is major action too. The first half of the book is more slow and then everything starts to happen!! The last chapters were a total brain meltdown!!
Alex continues to be a super awesome badass character, her way of always shoot first, ask questions later, keeps getting her in troubles, but that’s one of the reasons I like her so much! Her recklessness makes her do some problematic things and decisions, but that’s the thing, all she does, she does for a reason, most of the time because she is incapable of standing by while something wrong is happening. She gets in some major problems…she also discovers some big and important pieces of information.
Aiden in this book, has some of his most sweet moments and then has some moments when I just want to scream at him!! I get why does what he does, but come on man! Open your eyes! I always preferred Seth to Aiden, but I really like Aiden too, he is good guy and one of the few Hematoi to not view the half-bloods as less than them, he has a really good moral code and sense of what’s wrong and right, but he is not perfect either and in this book I really wanted to hit him!!!!
That being said I also wanted to hit Seth a bunch of times…..He is awesome, but he is also a big jerk sometimes… but we do get to see a different side of him in this book, a sweet side, as he and Alex start to get closer and he starts to help her with the Apollyon training, and the connection gets stronger. He stays by Alex’s side in the good and the bad, and I do believe he cares about her and Alex for him, its not the same as Aiden and Alex, its not the same feelings but they do care about each other an its not just the Apollyon connection either. At least I don’t see it like that. But there are some things about him, and some things he does that don’t add up.
There are some minor characters that get more time in this book, Laadan gets way more important, Olivia appears some more too, she and Caleb are super sweet and funny together, and Caleb is still the best friend you can ask for. Leon keeps his out of nowhere appearances and we do get to see a bit more of him too.
There is one new character that deserves special consideration for being the biggest SOB that can be, I hate Telly!!!!! And totally see behind his little scheme! An I also agree with Alex when she says that Lucian is a total fake.
Like I said, there are some hints on this book that left me worried the first time I read Covenant and continue to do so, the puzzle starts to get more clear and a big storm is coming…..
It’s an excellent continuation of the Covenant series, Jennifer delivers the right amount of action, mystery, some tough and sad parts and sweet romantic moments.
I do think Alex belongs with Aiden (even if I like Seth more) but Seth and Alex are so alike sometimes, my fav quote of the book belongs to the two of them.
“I guess there were two types o people in the world, those who sat around a fire, staring into the fames, and those who started the fire.
Seth and I started the fire, and then we danced around it.”

I feel so conflicted in rating this book. I missed a bit of the action since I felt this book was more focused on the relationships between the characters. Which I can understand why it might be necessary for the story moving forward. I missed Aiden a bit in this book, I felt he was more in the background at times. To compensate there was a lot of Seth in this book and I did start to like him a bit better… but hey I am team Aiden and Alex all the way. I feel like the connection between Aiden and Alex is just on another level and I missed them. I think that is also the difference between them. Even though I can like Seth, I feel he just isn’t the perfect match for Alex. Now for the pace of the story, because I feel it was more focused on the relationships, seemed a bit off for me. That said, there is also so much that I loved about this story. The characters are so well developed and that is what made me still love the focus on the relationships. Just because these characters are so layered and you can easily identify with them. I also like where the plot/storyline is going and of course everything surrounding Greek Mythology. Definitely recommending this series and hoping for more action in the next installment!

Ok so, I’ve been thinking really really hard about the way to go with this review, It´s not that I don’t like it, quite the contrary; the book has a great flow and it´s peaks and valleys are magnificent.
I loved the characters and the whole Greek mythology going on.
I read Daimon, Half Blood and Pure one after the other, that was how sucked up I was on this series; so this review is for both Half blood and Pure, also as the story progresses it developes into something incredible and new.
I fully intend to keep reading this series, my problem is I just don’t know how to rate it lol!!!!
So let’s say 3.99 starts just because I really like the way she writes and even though I knew most of what was going to happened I still couldn’t get my eyes of these books.
but cause i totally rock i´ll round it up to 4 starts
This book begins a few months after the end of half-blood, when Alex is back in her Covenant classes, her school year has already begun and she has to deal with Covenant school life, including her former classmates who are somewhat suspicious of why she has returned and her teachers who will not make it easy for her to return either.
To this we will add new threats that are attacking the Covenant with the problem of the half-blood Daimons that are taking some lives on campus, and this is where our protagonist’s impulsive character comes to the fore. She feels uncomfortable that the Mestizo now has to go through rigorous searches in search of the half-blood daimon.
I like the spark of rebellion that the author achieved in these scenes, because it gives the character her own voice, since in the previous book we saw a determined Alex, and here she is already taking her voice into society, which does not listen to her, and I hope that in the rest of the books this characteristic will be exploited.
I loved the plot because although it has some very flat valleys in the plot, it gets over very quickly, I won’t talk much because I’ll get into spoilers, but I must tell you that the book is complete, it has romance, action, revelations, fights, disappointments. It takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions that makes it super addictive.
The previous book was very well focused on Alex, but in this one with the different situations the character of Aiden and Seth enter more to the scene. First I will talk about Aiden, my God! I love that boy, not only because he is not simply another Pure, apart from the fact that he sees the half-blood as his equals, in his way of treating Alex, he is a kind of Love-Protection-Care-Care-He is so attentive to her, even though he doesn’t tell her his feelings openly.
Seth is something completely different, he’s a sexy idiot, the kind of guy who knows that everyone is drooling over him and that he’s a total playboy, which is the opposite of Aiden. Seth is more direct with Alex, and even a little invasive in some scenes, of course he doesn’t have a law that he has to abide by, unlike Aiden and he has this kind of Apollyon bond that unites him with Alex. But there are some parts where he is more concerned about things that might happen to him, than what Alex is going through.
It is a book that should be completely read, I recommend it, I fell in love with this saga and although I suffered a little bit with love triangle that is formed, it is worth it completely, because the book does not only focus on that.
I got a little upset with the back and forth between Aiden and Alex. While I understand now, thanks to the Catskills show, what would happen if a half-blood and a pure fall in love, it still doesn’t make me want them to defy the odds less. I keep just waiting for things to go south with Seth and for him to turn into something more than what he seems
Wow, things get kind of heated a bit in this one. You throw in Seth, who is supposed to be Alex’s other half, yet she still loves Aiden, the forbidden one. Throw in a summons to the council and plots to destroy her because of what she is, and Alex’s life just can’t get more messed up.
I like Seth. I really do, he’s a bit of an ass, but I like my fictional men a little like that. In all honesty, it really does seem like the only person outside of himself he cares for is Alex. The different personalities that JLA can create astound me sometimes. Although I do wished Aiden and Alex’s relationship would go a bit faster, but to be honest, it was perfectly done to keep us aching for it. This is definitely another ‘stay up all night just to finish one more chapter’ type of book. 5 stars!
A stunning read!
There is need…
and then there is Fate…
What an intense ride! Alex is truly badass and such an exciting and refreshing character. It has been such a joy reading this book and falling in love with these characters.
The world the author created is magnificent. A refreshing, unique read.
Full of danger, forbidden love, twists, surprises, passion, action, gods, fate, pure bloods and half-bloods.
Perfect for readers of paranormal romances/fantasy romances/Greek mythology.
