If you love dogs, if you love Christmas, you will love this book about an aging pug named Teddy Roosevelt, and his very human ‘family.’
All she wants is a settled-down life.
What she gets is a dog—and a whole new normal . . .
There he stood in the doorway: overweight, depressed and nearly homeless—a pug named Teddy Roosevelt. Teddy was Brydie Benson’s latest problem, arriving on top of her … homeless—a pug named Teddy Roosevelt. Teddy was Brydie Benson’s latest problem, arriving on top of her messy divorce and sudden move. Brydie needed a place to start over, so this rent-free home seemed a great idea. She just never counted on Teddy, or his owner, the Germantown Retirement Village’s toughest customer, Pauline Neumann.
And because rent-free doesn’t mean bills-free, Brydie gets a night-shift job at a big-box grocery. Whoever guessed there were so many people who wanted baked goods after midnight?
Then, she gets an idea—why not combine her baking skills with her new-found dog knowledge? And so her store Pupcakes is born. Along with a new start comes a possible new love, in the form of Nathan Reid, a local doctor with a sassy Irish Wolfhound named Sasha. And as fall turns to winter, and then to Christmas, Brydie begins to realize that life is a little bit like learning a new recipe for puff pastry—it takes a few tries to get it just right!

This is a delightful, uplifting story, perfect for a holiday read. The cute face on the cover made me pick up the book. There are real recipes in the back, including one for pupcakes.
My friend, Melody, suggested this book to me. I enjoyed it. Teddy Roosevelt is a pug and one of the main characters. Bryde’s life has fallen apart. Recently divorced, struggling to move home, she agrees to be a housesitter and dogsitter to Teddy. Along the way she falls in love with the pug, and herself for the first time. She finds her way back to life, again.
Great story, but I felt the main character was too willing to jump in bed and her character did not seem to fit that character quality. It was a good story and that could have easily been omitted.
Great little read. At Christmas, I have time off work and love to get “in the holiday spirit” by reading holiday books. This one wasn’t as holiday-focused but it was cute and fun!
I really enjoyed the story line of this book,, but was very disappointed when the language got “dicey” and then the characters’ sexual activities entered in. Such a good story could have been kept “clean” and I would have gladly recommended it.
Great read!
Adorable characters lively plot. Loved the book!
I loved all the characters. Especially little Teddy Roosevelt, he was a hoot!
A good easy read.
Cute story
This is a great easy-read. I truly enjoyed it.
Just finished this story. What an incredible read! Fabulous writer. Page turner! Didn’t want the story to end! Will be looking for other books by the author
Nice Christmas read!
Cute story.
I enjoyed reading this book for Christmas. My family has a pug, and I could relate. The story had lively characters and included a mystery.
Great story. Loved it sorry to see it end.
Nice, quick, light-hearted read. Very likable and relatable characters. I needed a short, happy book as a break from some of the dark, difficult fiction I have been grinding through and this was the perfect antidote.
As a dog lover I enjoyed this book and watching the dog/human relationships and the people to people relationships develop. It’s a heart warming story.
This was a fun and easy read.
Brydie Benson is ready to embrace adulthood, have a home of her own, and be free to live her life on her terms… and not dictated by the friend who owns the spare bed she’s crashing on. So, when she’s offered a beautiful home to live rent-free, as long as she agrees to the owners few minor requests, she decides to give it a shot. After hearing the conditions she is a little reluctant to agree, but after weighing her options she quickly decides that it’s too good of an offer to pass up… and really how hard can it be to care for a peculiar little dog, and interact with his owner from time to time? Once she signs on the dotted line, and little Teddy comes bounding into her world, her life heads into a very unexpected direction… one she can’t help but be thankful for…after a few headaches of course!
Pupcakes is a delightful and feel good story that’s perfect for those who are seeking a holiday read to warm their hearts on a chilly night! This story will tug on your heartstrings, make you laugh, and keep you engaged the whole way through! I found it to be an impressive first read, and I couldn’t help but smile at the mention of adorable little Teddy, he totally stole the show for me! Highly recommend this one, it’s a well written read, with many memorable moments that will have your heart overflowing with love for it’s endearing characters!!
