man-child. noun.: a grown man who is exceptionally immature, therefor considered a man-childmanwhore. noun.: a promiscuous man who has no concern for his sexual partners or the emotional value of his relationshipsRhett Morgan couldn’t have been more wrong for me. The guy drank beer in the shower, for crying out loud. He had no prospects for the future, had slept with half the women in our beach … half the women in our beach town of Kill Devil Hills, and had no desire to change his manwhore ways.
And when Ben Turner, the guy I had loved from afar for the past four years, died and I couldn’t get over his death, I desperately needed a distraction. A distraction like Rhett. So I used him for a one-night stand. Because, after all, that’s the only thing a guy like Rhett is good for…right?

So, I think I finally figured out why this series is so good. It’s more than just the wonderful characters and great writing, I think the magic of it lies with the intertwining timeliness of the books. Getting to see the same events, playing milestones in different relationships from all the characters POVs is the absolute best.
Having said that, this book definitely also benefits from the fact that Rhett is just complete awesomesouce and I love him
I received this ARC in exchange for a honest review.
‘Pulled under’ is the third book from the Kill Devil Hills series. I was very looking forward to reading this book since I read the first two books of this series. Because in those books you could read (on the background) that there was something happening between Sydney and Rhett but the question was what?! So that got me very curious for their story. And I really enjoyed it!! You can read this book as a standalone but I think it’s more interesting to read the other two books first, before reading this book.
In every school you have the shy girl that keeps to herself and then you have the handsome and popular boy. In this story Sydney is that girl and Ben Turner is that boy. And like in all stories Sydney has had a huge crush on Ben for a few years now. But if you think that you know this story, you’re wrong.
On Sydney’s her sixteenth birthday she saw something that she wished she hadn’t seen and it made her really upset. So upset that it had her kissing another guy and not just anybody but the biggest player of town, who was known for his bad reputation, Rhett Morgan.
Sydney never forgot about her first kiss or the first guy that even kissed her. So two years later when Ben Turner died, Sydney decided to find Rhett Morgan again and do something she never had done before, to have an one-night stand with him. Because if someone was perfect for this, it was Rhett, the man who was known for sleeping around with many women and his one-night stands.
The plan was simple. One night with Rhett, without feelings or difficult questions or anything else. Only what Sydney thought would be simple turned into something else. Because Rhett did something that a bad boy / player never did. He wanted more than one night with her. Sidney then decided to choose the coward way and she tried to hide from Rhett. But it’s hard to hide from someone when you both know the same people and it’s even harder when you become friends with them. Now Rhett and Sydney bumped into each other on different occasions and although Sydney tries to deny it. There’s something there between her and Rhett. The question is what is it and what will happen between them when someone from her past comes back in her life?! Will their relationship be strong enough to overcome it all?
It was a really sweet story. I love Rhett and Sydney together. The fact that Rhett totally felt for her and their chemistry together. Sarah Darlington wrote the story that I had hoped for. Rhett has become one of my favorite persons of this series after reading this. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
Goodreads needs emoticons. When it comes to Rhett I really want to use the heart eyes for him. I seriously had no clue I would feel this way about him when I started this book. In the previous 2 he was just on the periphery…that kind of friend who’d show up once in awhile, make his mark and then leave. How was I supposed to know he’d worm his way into my heart like he did and make me love him?!?
Rhett is one of those characters who completely catches you off guard…you expect certain things from him and you expect him to act a certain way, and it’s such a delight when you begin to realize there is so much more to him than your preconceived expectations. His first interaction with Sydney was so sweet and I think right then is where I started to fall for him.
Sydney and Rhett’s relationship is a bit of a complicated one…it starts out with Sydney just trying to get over her grief for Ben, but slowly morphs into so much more than that, for both of them. Rhett falls hard for Sydney, which for him is so out of character! But I loved it! I loved how absolutely sweet and caring he is, how his whole persona changes as he gets to know her and gets pulled under her spell. I admit Sydney can be a little frustrating at times, but she’s young and has had a lot to deal with in her life.
Pulled Under kind of runs parallel to/overlaps Kill Devil Hills and also a bit with Changing Tides. But this is Rhett and Sydney’s story so you get an entirely new viewpoint of things that happened in the previous books, as well as totally new content between these 2. It would be helpful to read the other books first, so that you’re not lost when it comes to certain parts. And I completely loved them so I’d highly recommend it!
