***Standalone Romantic Comedy***With a famous NHL player for a stepbrother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation of many a hockey star. She isn’t interested in legendary team captain Alex Waters or his pretty, beat-up face and rock-hard six-pack abs. When Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes … becomes much more than just a hot body with the face to match.
Suffering from a complete lapse in judgment, Violet discovers just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. Violet believes her night of orgasmic magic with Alex is just that: one night. But Alex starts to call. And text. And email and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts. Suddenly, he’s too difficult to ignore, and nearly impossible not to like.
The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn’t want to be part of the game.

I both read this book and listened to the audio version. This was a somewhat sweet, romance that had a number of laugh out loud moments.
Violet’s sense of humor was quirky and down right weird. She did tend to behave like a 12 year old boy. All the “not quite clean” clothes she was prone to wear was kind of gross.
Alex was a sweet guy, who made a couple of dumb mistakes. I wasn’t really sure why he wanted Violet, but he did. She seemed to be seriously lacking in maturity.
All that being said, the book had its moments. The whole Super MC scene at the end of the book was tear worthy funny.
The narration for Violet was great. It really matched the personality as Violet was written. The narration for Alex was not so great. I usually enjoy the male narration, but I think the book would have been better without it.
It was supposed to be a Canadian accent, but it was lacking. I’m not great with accents, but I know a sexy, masculine voice when I hear it. This wasn’t it. I wondered what the narrator’s real voice sounded like. Alex sounded like a wimpy, whiny guy with some kind of accent, sort of a combo of Irish, Scottish, and an occasional foray into a Canadian accent.
If you want a good laugh and a light read, this should do it.
I kept seeing this title and finally broke down to purchase it. I was not disappointed. Before you started reading go to the bathroom and duct tape your mouth. This book will have you snorting so loud and hard you pee your pants. I would call this a “dirty” rom-com. I have never loved such an awkward, quirky, and slightly disturbed character as I did in Violet. Alex is the perfect match for her. He sees her true self and loves her immature, crude outrageousness all at the same time. This book is just awesome if you love stepping outside the box and letting go to have a great laugh. The chemistry between the characters is off the charts and will leave you fanning yourself. I am so excited to read about the other characters in this series. I will surely not be disappointed!
absolutely amazing. love violet and her quirkiness. Alex is amazing. they are made for each other.
I absolutely love Violet and Alex but mainly Violet! She is hilarious and someone I would want to hang out with! You never know what inappropriate thing is going to come out of her mouth, she makes this book, well and Alex and his love for boobs definitely contributes too. Lol
This was my first Helena Hunting book and I flippin loved it! I first read Pucked 3 years ago and I still remember it having the best first chapter ever… I sent some friends a screenshot of Violet and Charlene’s conversation about having a bookclub member blackballed for refusing to let them read more smut. A book that starts off with that is definitely my kind of book! Violet is my spirit animal, I don’t think I have ever loved or related to a female character more; she is quirky, fun, loyal, and completely socially awkward! Alex was a wonderful male character, he was unexpectedly shy and a little dorky for being a star hockey player know for a ‘hat trick’. Pucked was one of the biggest laugh out loud books I have read in a very long time, the conversations, the chemistry, the antics and Violet’s dairy issues just made this book into my favorites list!
This is the first book I read by this author, and it was over-the-top funny at times with quick witted dialogue, plenty of angst and tears when our Hero, Alex, digs himself into a pretty deep hole, and red hot sex all over the place! Is this a soul-deep love story? No. But judging from the various personalities of our Hero’s teammates, we’ll see more of Alex and Violet in the subsequent stories. I really liked Violet’s no-filter mouth and young and immature outspokenness. That’s what Alex loves about her, and it brings out his playful side as well. Looking forward to reading more about these two and their teammates and friends!
This was the first book I ever read by Helena Hunting and this book is why I read all of her books. The characters are amazing and seriously Violet is my spirit animal. She talks just like me which is funny in itself.
He shoots and he scores!
These characters are quirky and fun. They don’t always jump to the correct conclusion or make the right choices but they find their way through the challenges. Fun story with a great HEA
I listened to this one on audio and LOVED it and laughed my way through it. I’m sure I got a few looks as I was driving but that is okay, keep them wondering! Alex is a known player, but is he really? Violet wants nothing to do with hockey players after her previous experience and with her step-brother being the BIGGEST player around but she is caught in a compromising position and when her lips meet up with Alex Waters the chemistry is off the charts. These two are meant for each other, if only Alex can keep out of his own way and stop taking his agent’s advice. Definitely glad I waited for this one in audio, it was perfect that way and I am going to binge the rest of the series immediately!
This book is amazing. The characters omg I love more then anything. I’ve never laughed so hard. I couldn’t wait to get to the next book in series.
This was my first Helena Hunting book. I heard about it from EL James, of all people. Author of the Fifty Shades books. And I was like wow ok! If she likes this, then it must be good! (Mind you, this was like 6 years ago, and I really hadn’t read much romance at all let alone romcoms or sports romance).
Alex Waters is my OG book boyfriend. I’m so obsessed with him it’s not even fair. And Violet is my fave kind of book heroine. She’s sassy, quirky, has no filter and is a total nerd, but in a cute way. She and Alex have some differences, that’s for sure. But they also have some similarities and they’re just so cute together.
I love stories of one-night-stands turning into forever (clearly… see Midnight City by Nyla K LOL). But this is just such a great book. Funny and adorable all the way.
And the series it spawned is one of my favorite EVER. I love allll the Pucked boys to death. But Alex is the Captain. So he wins 😉
Pucked by Helena Hunting is a standalone, forbidden sports romantic comedy told in first person, dual POV. This fun story has good, steady pacing and quick-witted, raunchy dialogue.
Violet Hall is not much of a hockey fan despite her family connections. Her stepbrother, Buck, is a professional hockey player, her stepfather, Sidney, is an NHL scout, and she’s a junior accountant at a PR firm specializing in sports finance. Violet has a very low opinion of hockey players due to being used by her hockey-playing jerk of an ex-boyfriend and seeing Buck’s many scandalous sexploits. She thinks they’re all a bunch of dogs without much going on in the brains department.
When Violet travels with her family to support Buck at his first away game, she meets his teammate and captain, Alex Waters, at a post-game party. He has a reputation for being a player and Violet is surprised to learn that Alex is not only good looking, but he’s also well read. They have an instant attraction and undeniable connection and end up having what Violet believes to be a one night stand, but Alex is interested in much more. He relentlessly pursues her by texting, calling, and sending many thoughtful and quirky gifts. Eventually, they begin dating in secret.
What will happen when their secret is revealed? How will Buck react to Alex and Violet being together? And will Alex live up to his player reputation or will he prove to be faithful? Read and find out.
I really enjoyed this story and its characters. Violet was pretty, smart, sassy, outspoken, and at times, a bit awkward and strange. I wasn’t crazy about her tendency toward crude conversation, but I still really liked her. Alex was intelligent, sexy, confident, romantic, and totally swoon-worthy. I loved the way he fearlessly put himself out there and went after what he wanted in pursuit of Violet.
Identity is a theme that is explored, particularly with Alex’s character and the image he presents to the public as he comes to learn that without authenticity, image is worthless. The story was funny, sweet, romantic, sexy and genuine. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author, and it definitely will not be the last.
Pucked is my first book by Helena Hunting, but it won’t be my last. Ms. Hunting has given readers a book that will have you laughing from start to finish. This contemporary sports romance is well-written and populated with phenomenal characters. It is written in first person, alternating point of view format, usually my least favorite, but Ms. Hunting totally makes it work in this story.
Violet is roped into going to watch her stepbrother’s hockey game. She took her book club book with her. She’s not a puck bunny because she believes all the players are man whores. Alex is the captain of her brother’s team and has, for the most part, outgrown puck bunnies. Alex and Violet’s story is packed with drama, humor, steamy sex and did I mention humor? I loved this book from page one to the end and look forward to reading more from Helena Hunting soon.
Pucked is book 1 of the Pucked Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Oh..my..god….I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard reading a book…The leading lady Violet is hilarious, quirky, witty and weird..She is my spirit animal. The leading man is shy, courteous and literally the only man capable of dealing with her form of crazyI went to bed with a sore stomach from laughing so much and i dont regret a second of it!I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.Helena is hilarious and so talented.Cant wait to read Book 2!Gahhh excited!!If i laugh myself sick will Super MC save me?!
Reading the blurb I thought that I would enjoy this book. Boy was I wrong. I didn’t care for any of the characters because they were to childish especially Violet’s mother. If the blurb would have indicated how young Violet was I wouldn’t have read this book. The way she talked and thought was very much like a 22 year old would behave. It was also supposed to be a RomCom but I didn’t find it funny at all. Overall I’m very disappointed in the book.
Hotness, hockey, geekiness, and love
I loved this story! Violet & Alex are sweet, awkward, and sexy! Awkward moments leading to hilarity or hotness. Nutty, nosy families. An odd obsession with Snufalufgus and superheroes. A definite must read.
This book was my first foray into Helena Hunting’s hockey world. This book was highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Violet! I want her to be my best friend!
Love it! If you haven’t read this book/series yet, do it NOW!
Crude
Thumbs up. Laugh out loud happy ending.
Holy Hotness!! This book is not for the faint-hearted… Alex is not only hot, but also sweet. And Violet is anything but shrinking! The chemistry between them is sizzling and Violet’s brand of crazy is ROFL hilarious! Great read Ms Hunting!
