*A STANDALONE novel*I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance.”I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want. Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.I have secrets. Ones I shared … be any other way.
I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.
At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.
I shouldn’t want her.
But I do.
I should leave her alone.
But I won’t.

Review Lance Romero has been featured in the previous books as a playboy but there is another dark side of Lance that he hides. He meets Poppy as he is sent to have a massage by the team trainer. He doesn’t recognize her, but she knows him and they shared a special moment growing up. This is a great story of how the right person can help you see that you aren’t completely broken. I loved Lance and Poppy!
I listed to the audible version and fell in love with Lance and Poppy. Lance is complex and life isn’t going as smoothly for him since his scandal. Poppy is a nice breathe of fresh air and definitely someone who is a good balance for Lance. We still get to see the gang in Lance’s book so dont worry.
I have loved the whole Pucked series. I have been waiting on Lance’s story. He has been dealing with some internal demons throughout the series. This is the book where we see him vulnerable. He is a soul tortured by guilt that he never should have had placed on him, and by the psychotic manipulations of a girl he trusted enough to be real with. He is broken. When he meets Poppy he cannot explain the magnetic draw to her, and she doesn’t immediately tell him of their past connections. Reading as they open up to each other and seeing the real Lance, that he hides from everyone, is heartbreaking and beautiful. Poppy is sweet and strong. She has a beautiful heart that wants to believe in Lance but also protect herself from heartbreak. Some of his past experiences may be triggers for some people.
I really can’t say enough about this book. It is just MORE.
NO SPOILERS!
I loved Lance and Poppy’s story in Pucked Off! It was more angsty and emotional than I expected, at least compared to the previous books in the Pucked series, but still super sweet, sexy, funny, and entertaining. The storyline and characters Helena Hunting created were once again amazing, and I adored them with all my heart. There were a few parts of the plot I didn’t care for and that took me by surprise, but overall I loved Lance and Poppy’s story and was very happy with the outcome. The entire Pucked series has been phenomenal so far, and I can’t wait to read the final standalone, Pucked Love!
Love_this_series.
Wow! I have been reading/listening my way through this series. I listened to the audio version of this book. Pucked Off went in a very different direction. A good direction, but different.
I had been waiting for Lance’s story and it was a true emotional journey. After reading about Lance in Miller and Sunny’s story, I would never have expected to be where I found myself with Lance.
His story is Kind of tragic, and angsty, and sad, and painful, but managed not to be depressing. All Poppy could do was feel so badly for Lance, want to fight back on his behalf, hurt for him, or feel the need to protect him. Not to absolve Lance from any responsibility about his behavior with the bunnies. Tash was toxic, real poison, truly unlikable.
I fully expected Tash and Poppy to run into each other at some point. When Lance figured out what was up with Tash, it made so much sense.
Poppy was basically a good person and I kept rooting for things to work out between her and “Romance”, aka Lance. Violet was her usual unfiltered self. Lily, April, and the other ladies brought the lighthearted approach to the book. (Although I have to say April being the ultimate fangirl got to be irritating.)
I felt like this was the best book of the series hands down.
The narration was on point. The narrators made me feel all of the feels. Sexy, steamy, sweet, painful, sad, etc. all taking me down the path to Lance and Poppy’s HEA.
I did not know how much I was going to like Lance. I really didn’t love him in the books we have seen him in so far but man was I wrong. I felt so much for him. He has been through so much more than any one person should have to go through. This book definitely took a departure from the lighthearted, humor filled other books in the series but I loved it. Lance and Poppy are just so very perfect for each other and I really love that Lance finally gets to be loved the way he should.
I knew that I will love Lance from the first book he appeared in. It was love from the first party 🙂
I have a thing for the broken ones.
this book was different from the rest in the series . This book was more complicated.
we knew from the provisos books that Lance and Tohs have a bad relationship… in this book we can see how twisted it was .
I love the way we find out how sweet Lance really is 🙂
i`m not telling anything about the plot because you should read it !!!
The series continues with Lance and Poppy’s story. This is a mf contemporary story set around the ice hockey world. Lots of help from previous players in this series. I listened to the audiobook. Off to listen to The next book now.
Have read this series and just keeps getting better!
*5 Stars*
Um, whoa. Lance has suddenly become my favourite hero in this series. He’s such a tortured soul, but underneath all that, he really is a sweet and caring man. Learning about the true Lance, and what his past entails was really eye opening for this character. The things that happened to him, and that he’s carried with him into the present, were not at all what I was expecting.
Poppy was a wonderful heroine. She’s so genuine and sweet, and I really liked her. She felt like a really stable character, just perfect for this book. And she was good for Lance, exactly what HE needed.
“I have the real him right here with me now, too. I have a broken boy, who’s become a broken man, and as stupid and naive as it may be, I want to be part of what heals him.”
As for secondary characters, I thought April was a lot of fun, and I’d love to see more of her in the future. I also loved getting our fave guys and girls in the mix too, because this whole team is a family and its so wonderful.
The other secondary character worth mentioning is Tash, and let me tell you, I wanted to cause her some bodily harm, I hated her that much. What. A. Mole. Ugh.
I thought things wrapped up nicely in the end, and I liked the way that it was brought about. There was a little bit of angst, but not too much, and for the most part these two tried to communicate properly with each other.
The ending was just perfect for these two as well. So sweet. Cannot wait to continue this series!
I absolutely adored Lance’s story. His story is haunting and tragic and beautiful. Helena really outdid herself with Pucked Off, Lance and Poppy are my absolute favorite characters in this series. And of course Violet never disappoints!
This one is NOT the typical rom-com of the rest of the series but finally, FINALLY we get Lance “Romance” Romero’s story and what a story it is. He has demons and has led a tortured life and he takes it out on the ice and when that is not enough he lets loose on the material things around him. He has never thought he is good enough or deserves happiness but he is so wrong. After a beat down when trying to save a woman from a beating the team trainer insists he receive massages before he will be allowed to play or practice he is devastated since he cannot stand to be touched. Knowing he has to agree to this torture he agrees to go and is surprised by the massage therapist, Poppy. She seems familiar to him but he cannot place her. She knows who and where they met because he was her first kiss when they were young and the previous year she and her friend were at his house (and in a previous book). What is great is her touch does not torture him, it feels fantastic and relaxing and he wants more. It doesn’t take too long for Lance to figure out Poppy is more than familiar for the connection to cement and memories to come back, all the way back. These two do not have an easy time and add in the media getting involved after the first date and Lance’s stalker but all good things are worth some work. Definitely the best way to tell Lance’s story!
4.5 Pucked Off is such a good book!! It’s definitely one of my favorites of the series, if not my new favorite. They’re all really good, it’s hard to pick just one. Lance was always a bit of a mystery, but a mystery you wanted to solve, so I was so happy that we finally got his book! I absolutely love him and feel so bad for everything he has had to go through in life. He’s such a good and sweet guy, he just doesn’t get to show it that often because he’s been let down so much. Poppy’s an absolute sweetheart and one of the nicest girls and I loved her too. Her and Lance are so cute together, they’re definitely one of my favorite couples. I loved the storyline of Pucked Off. It’s a little different and heavier than the other books in the series, but still so good. Lance has a lot of things he keeps to himself and that weighs heavily on him. I’ve been waiting to fully understand his relationship with Tash and I’m happy to finally have that. I really hate her by the way, she’s a terrible person and I hate what she does to Lance and how she makes him feel. He deserves to be happy and I’m so happy that he gets that with Poppy. The “intervention” was absolutely hilarious and probably my favorite part of the whole book. This was a wonderful book!! Now we need a Darren and Charlene book cause I really need to understand what’s going on there!
Lance will absolutely steal your heart!!
I absolutely love the Pucked series and when all is said and done, I love everything Helena Hunting writes! And I have pretty much read everything that Helena has written but Pucked Off is one of my absolute favourites.
I was hooked with Alex, was smitten with Buck and went a little ballistic over Randy but Lance just took it to another level! When we are introduced to Lance Romero, aka Lance “Romance”, we are not impressed. He is boorish, standoffish, and conceited and that’s just the start and with characteristics like that, what’s not to love, right? But in this book – Lance’s story, the layers are peeled away and what the reader finds is heart-wrenching, heartbreaking but in the end, uplifting. His secrets destroy him and perpetuate the self-destructive behaviour he engages in on-and-off the ice. Poppy still sees the boy she knew years ago and can hopefully make him that better man today, if his past and secrets don’t destroy him and leave her as collateral damage.
This is truly an amazing read. Lance stole my heart and I guarantee you that he will steal yours as well. This series just keeps getting better and better. Thank you Helena!!!
Lance is the moody brooding type of the Pucked characters. His story is one that will capture your heart and make you swoon for Lance! It’s a must read.
I absolutely love Alex and Violet. Her humor is so relatable. The laugh out loud moments are some that stick with you long after you finish reading. I highly recommend this sports romance. It will leave you anticipating the next book!
I just knew Lance would be the one to make me cry. He watched his friends fall in love and wanted that for himself. When it didn’t happen he convinced himself that he was unworthy of love. Helena didn’t reveal the heroine in the blurb so I won’t reveal her in thus review, but I will say she’s a great match for Lance. Lance is so broken, he needed someone put together. I love that he knew she could be different and tried to make it work with her. Even if you weren’t crazy about the other books, I would say read this one. While other characters do make an appearance, it’s very much so about Lance and his girl.
I really love this series. Unfortunately, I need to find these “puck bunny” social media feeds because I want one of my own now!
If you’re looking for an epic romance story like no other, then look no further!
Pucked off is a spectacular story of beautifully broken to beautifully mended!
A musical dance of love always finds it’s the way! Then weaseling its way into your mind, body, and soul. Forming itself into that everlasting love! Otherwise known as fate! Where a broken heart can and always be mended by true everlasting love!
Fuck it’s what dreams are made up!! It’s Pucked off!
HELENA HUNTING brought me to a place where my heart was torn wide open and raw! Where I needed a hug! I was enslaved to it! I couldn’t stop reading it even if I wanted too!
Just a breathtaking story of brokenness, woundedness, and self-discovery. Yet sweet and compelling at the same times. I honestly believe it’s her best work to date!
