*A STANDALONE novel*I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance.”I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want. Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.I have secrets. Ones I shared … be any other way.
I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.
At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.
I shouldn’t want her.
But I do.
I should leave her alone.
But I won’t.

Oh my stars.
I thought that I loved Alex and Vi. But Lance and Poppy <3
I listened to the audio and it was perfect. By far my favorite ginger. ( Am I allowed to say that :))
Thanks for another fantastic book.
So…. girls, ladies and gentelmen let’s talk here a little about my favorite bad-pucked-boy Lance Romance…oh, for sure we’ll do this in dirty and hot style – Lance Romance could steal heart more than once. I wasn’t his big fan when I meet him for the first time… but while knowing him better, my heart decided to give him BIG FAT CHANCE. Till this day I re-read this book one million times because Lance is one and only in his kind.
ME- trying to write in english something funny – yeah priceless I know it maybe sounds a little lame, what I wrote above, but I really try hard to do this in “Pucked way”. Helena always give me so much fun in her books besides, she one of my favorites rom-com author too.
I thought that I will be faithful forever to crazy Beaver Viola “Hunting”, who is my one and only secret-bookish-girl-crush. Yes, I wrote in past time because Lance Romance steal her place and they have the same spot in my Hunting’s heart for now. Obviously Pucked off is write in “Helena’s way”, there are tons of funny moments, and many times I was snorting at least LOUD…but…
Why I love Romance much more than others ??? BECAUSE I have huge soft spot for bad boys with golden hearts! This ROMANCE suduced me compeletly from page no 1. But even if there Is a lot of humor, I have a couple hard moments… When that happen I wanted to throw this book (or rather my kindle) away because it was very hard for me to read how much my Lance was broken in the past… no offence ladies but NATASHA or TASH will be the most hated female name for a while… This girl could be serious competition for Dracula at least….
Oh… You see how I love Lance – I can’t stop writting about him, even if my english isn’t perfect one. Maybe I should feel a little jelaous about sweet Poppy girl, because she steal my Romance ? Nope, I won’t – she’s perfect girl for him. I should write here something smart and original but obviously I’m not Shakespeare, just oridinary plain Jane who want to say – I love how LOVE between Lance and Poppy just… grow with tons of sexy stuff. Poppy is gentle like flower, but she know how to show Lance that she’s not another bunny in his life. She amazing and sweet, but let’s be honest…. if she end with Lance – crazy beaver Viola will spoil her in a speed of light.
If You read “the end” in my review – CONGRATULATIONS !!! I’m happy that You didn’t fall a sleep too fast.
PS. I LOVE… I LOVE and again I LOVE everything in Pucked Off plus I want more obviously.
In this series Lance Romero was always such a mystery to me, he was in the books a lot but you always knew there was something about him, he wasn’t my favourite character and to be honest wasn’t really looking forward to this book. Well Helena Hunting changed my mind in the first chapter. I wasn’t expecting anything that happened in the first 100 pages and it excited me I was already cringing and crying and it just made me want more.
Poppy is one of the most beautiful characters I have read, she is so loving and caring and really just wants to protect her heart and she sweet and tender and is a really good girl and exactly what Lance needs.
Where to start with Lance he is such a broken man and really doesn’t know how to get himself out of the darkness, he is so lost and it actually is really sad to read. He has made Crap decisions and made really big mistakes and he needs to forgive himself for that.
This book for me was quite different to the other books in the series and I loved this book so much more because this book got right into the bones of a character who is really struggling, it was a really heart felt book with being a typical Pucked book.
If you loved the other pucked books then this is just as good and you won’t be disappointed, I really really loved Lance by the end of the book and slowly came to be my no2 out of all the boys. I also think that Tash became one of my most hated characters ever in a book.
5++++++ stars
FIRST KISS LASTING IMPRESSION
Yes we all know Lance is McSluttystone. But oh there is so much more. This is the first book in the series that made me cry with the backstory and the love that he longs for.
Another amazing installment to this series! I cannot believe how much I am loving these books! After Randy’s book, and then Forever Pucked, I had grown accustomed to a high level of steam from this series and given Lance’s rep in previous books I thought this book would be along those same lines. Typically, I would be very disappointed when I am expecting steam and don’t get a lot. But this romance was just so damn good that I was here for all of it. This book dealt with deeper issues and I loved both Lance and Poppy. I want to scratch Tash’s eyes out and that bitch better not get a redemption story. She can kick rocks. I still don’t know if the next book is the absolute end to this series but I sincerely hope that it is not. Because after the ending of this book, I want more Lance and Poppy. I don’t think I’ll ever get enough Randy and Lily either. I really really hope Helena decides to write more of these.. I won’t lie, there are a couple of characters in this story that have not been in any of the other books so it got my hopes up. But even if it is over after Pucked Love then it has been an awesome ride. And I am so happy to have a new hockey series to recommend to people!
Look beyond the ‘wild’
Lance, the seeming ‘Romeo’ of the team with his Romance nickname, is not who we may have thought. And Tash isn’t the innocent party we may have imagined. He meets, again, Poppy when he is sent to her clinic for a massage by the team trainer. He is instantly drawn to her and feels like she is familiar. Poppy knows exactly who he is and is at once wary and thrilled. Their romance is intense, bumpy because he sucks at communicating plus he has major guilt about his past. And I loved them. He is swoony! And she’s a lot more rational than a lot of our other heroines have been. Of course we also get to see the rest of this rag tag crew.
OMG…Helena Hunting sure knows how to write some swoony, vulnerable men! I always suspected from the little pieces of Lance that we saw in previous Pucked books that Lance was misunderstood. I had a feeling there was more to him and boy oh boy, did I fall hard for this sexy hockey player. I love how even though he didn’t realize it, he had an army of people who had his back who believed in him more than he believed in himself. All it took was the right person to come along and see beyond the facade. Poppy was as endearing as they come. She is so good! I loved how she loved Lance! Poppy loved him the way he deserved to be loved. She was exactly what he needed to help him heal past wounds inflicted by people he trusted. Their relationship was beautiful!
Pucked Off is the first Helena Hunting novel I’ve read and it isn’t even the first of the Pucked series, but I am sold. I loved everything about this book – the characters Lance and Poppy – were realistic. Each came with his/her own insecurities and strengths. The reader can relate to both characters and fall in love with them one word at a time. I’m now a Helena Hunting fan!
The Pucked series is definitely one of my absolute favourite series I’ve read! I’ve loved Lance from when I started reading Pucked and I couldn’t wait to finally read his story. Lance comes close to Alex & Violet for me and that for one is saying something. I may even say that this one is one of Helena’s best books in the series! The way she portrayed Lance is how a story should feel. I could relate to him in so many ways when reading; it was like how I felt in my life sometimes at a time in my life. And that’s when you have that connection to a story and you can’t let go. So thank you to the author for giving us a book that is a must read! I swear, you will love him even more…
Lance never had an easy life but he helds his personal life so private that no one worthy could see/feel his pain. His “fling” with Tash has left him scarred even more and with a reputation he has no control over. When he meets Poppy, she looks familiar to him but he can’t place her. The more he gets to know her, the more he wants her in his life. But secrets and pains from the past are never too far away and both will have to choose where to go next….
It took me so much time to start reading this series as I don’t know anything about NHL but I’m glad that I finally found my way..
Pucked Off has been my favorite book of the Pucked series.. Lance and Poppy’s story feels deeper, it feels like the characters are more mature but still funny..
Lance was the typical guy who had a bad reputation when it comes to women. his past was not good, he suffered a loss and other bad things that made him somehow closed off after what happened to him.. he still in a very tricky situation, someone still trying to make him feel bad about his past, playing mind games and making him feel like he didn’t have any worth or value in life but there is always hope and life will bring someone who will bring him peace and a calmer mind, someone whos touch make him feel alive..
“For the first time in my entire life, I understand what it means to be with someone who will give and not just take.”
Poppy a massage therapist trying to make her way in life without complications, she was nice, feminine and in some way quiet, she was a great heroine. I really love Poppy, she was kind and very mature, always giving people time and chances.. she was always very perceptive and understanding.. I really love how strong she was, how she was very down to earth. I also like how she is also fighting in some way with past memories that make her feel a little reserved when it comes to Lance..
“We’re both full of fire, and his past is full of pain he carries with him. But I’m willing to try because I want him. And more than that, this man is the kind of beautiful I need in my life.”
Poppy and Lance love story is beautiful, it takes time for them to bring down their walls as they both have a few issues that keep holding them to make a move.. but at the same time, you still feel their attraction, their need, the love starting to build.. the sex, the flirt everything between them was great… Poppy remembers Lance very well, she doesn’t need any confirmation of what she wants or her attraction to him.. she knows her feelings very well.. Lance was kind of insecure at first, he didn’t understand what was going on between them, it was like he didn’t know this feeling.. and he couldn’t comprehend how Poppy’s touch was so different than any other woman before..
“Poppy is nothing like the women I usually end up in bed with.
She’s not brazen. She’s not looking to break conventions. She’s the opposite, and I want to be exactly what she needs, except I’m not sure”
“Loving this man isn’t going to be easy, but I still want to try.”
Many of the previous characters from the Pucked series show up in this story, Violet always being the main helper and making everybody laugh with her shenanigans, Sonny, Lilly, Miller, Alex etc.. we also meet April a very good friend of Poppy someone who supports her and is always encouraging her to take a step toward happiness and love aka Lance Romero..
great story looking forward to reading the rest!!
My favorite of the whole Pucked series!! Lance, so misunderstood…. Romance totally fits him and Poppy, what a connection and their chemistry!!!! A must read!!
Stars: 4.5 stars
My heart breaks and soars for Lance. After everything he has been through, he’s finally found his happy place. She’s sassy, sweet, and all around perfect for him. If only he would realize that he DOES deserve her.
The emotions pulled from this book are extraordinary. Just like the previous books in this series, there’s a humor to it, but this one is a little more serious.
I highly recommend reading the other stories, but with this book it isn’t a must. You can understand everything without them, but if read out of order, there may be some spoilers.
Lance Romance Romero is in full force in this fifth book by Helena. He’s a fantastic player and a hawwwt inferno on ice. But his inner life is completely disheveled. He’s in a toxic relationship with Tash who messes with her head. She’s needy, clingy, abusive and has a tight grip on his emotions. So his desperation to punish Tash and break away drives him to harm himself any a times. His heart needs to heal.
He’s too much into bunnies and partying, and he meets a sweet girl. she’s a Ms.Goody Two Shoes. A rule follower and promise keeper. But how their world’s intertwine and what a fantastic love story develops
My fave girl crush Violet appears again with her trademark Inappropriate sense of humour
“Because they have penises. Or peni. What is the plural of penis?”
“Is that politically correct? Can a non-ginger use the word ginger when referencing another ginger? Is that offensive?”
I seriously am in love with her brain – with no connection to mouth personality! She’s like #FemalePreppy 🙂
I WANT to keep reading this family’s stories. I’ll LET Helena write forever ..but I desperately NEED more of violet
Super awesome book ! (
This book is all kinds of amazing! I loved every freaking minute of it.
1. Sweet baby Jesus, I forgot he was Scottish . When his brogue comes out… ahhhh soooooo hot. I love me an accent!
2. I have loved every single book in this series (I’m very partial to Violet), but this one to me, is hands down my favorite! I adore Poppy and have mad love for Lance.
3. I hate Tash. Hate that bitch hard. Gah, the mind fuck games she played with Lace. She messed with his head big time.
“Sometimes it’s hard to tell your heart not to want someone, even if all they do is hurt you.” Eff you see kay you, Tash! I’m double flipping the birds to you!
4. Man does Lance have some demons. He had a rough childhood and it broke my cold dead heart how it affected him throughout his life. He just kept thinking he wasn’t worthy of anything good. Enter Poppy.
“This feeling—what you do to me—I’ve never had it before, and I don’t want to lose it. But I probably don’t deserve it.”
“But I’m so tired of the emptiness. I’m tired of the endless ache, and I’m willing her to be the one who can fix that for me.”
5. Poppy is ah-mazing. I loved her character and I loved seeing their relationship grow. Yes, there were some bumps, but she stuck with him.
“I have a broken boy who’s become a broken man, and as stupid and naïve as it may be, I want to be part of what heals him.” Yes, yes, yes!!
This was my favorite …”We’re both full of fire, and his past is full of pain he carries with him. But I’m willing to try, because I want him. And more than that, this man is the kind of beautiful I need in my life.” *slow claps* Atta girl. That’s right, he is all kinds of beautiful, inside and out.
*sigh* Yeah, this book is pretty fantastic. I want to read it again, I just loved it so much.
OMFG I LOVE LANCE. I couldn’t wait until Lance’s story was told because I knew it was going to be PUCKING AMAZING. This book has all the feels and will definitely tug at your heartstrings. As I’m reading I can feel what the characters are feeling and each emotion they are going through. I love seeing all the characters especially Violet who cracks me up every time she opens her mouth. Another amazing read that once I started reading I couldn’t put down.
This is probably mean of me but I really liked it when the situations between Poppy and Lance were awkward, “her arm slips, and her elbow digs hard into tight muscle. I grunt, and she gasps. “I’m so sorry!” And then her palm is on my ***, kneading the spot, and my ***k once again thinks it should be next on the massage list.” I liked that Lance got nervous before taking Poppy out, “once I’m dressed and ready to go, I pace around my house. I consider whacking off one more time, but twice should be enough, so I hit my garage to pick a car.” I loved this book, Laance was sexy and I fell for him instantly.
6 “Past Fused with Present” Stars
“Your body is a gift I want to earn the right to enjoy.”
Lance “Romance” Romero, number 21 for the Chicago hockey team, has intrigued me from the moment I heard he was Scottish. Yep, I have a thing for accents and sometimes Lance’s makes an appearance. Usually when he’s upset or emotional. And Lance is emotional. You wouldn’t get that from his appearances in the previous books, but he is an emotional wreck–and he keeps it buried beneath his playboy ways.
I hate that she makes me weak, and I hate that she knows it.
Lance has had an interesting run when it comes to the ladies. Tash being his attempt at something real, he eventually learns she may not be the settling down type. But what does that lesson cost him? Can he survive this attempt at normalcy or will he fall back into the bunnies and continue to live one game–one girl–at a time? What happens when he meets someone who surpasses everything he could ever imagine?
“She’s like…all this goodness wrapped up in one person. I want to have that. I want to deserve to have that.”
If you’re expecting the ridiculousness that happens in the first few Pucked books, then I recommend you turn away right now. THIS IS NOT THAT. Yes, there is a bit of laughter and ridiculousness, there has to be where Violet is concerned, but the overall theme of this book? Angst. So. Much. Angst. And we all know Helena can write angst, but I didn’t expect it from Lance. Despite this, I absolutely love this book and this couple. Lance is everything I could want in a man (well, almost, because Randy is my main guy). He’s broken and battered and hurt. And he’s lived with this since he was a child.
“I’m messed up. I think there are parts of me that can’t be fixed.”
This is the most beautiful relationship in the Pucked series. And that’s saying a lot considering I am always, always Team Ballistic. He’s my guy and he does incredible things for Lily. But Lance. *le sigh* Lance. He’s everything.
“And I’m still not sorry the way I should’ve been.”
“What?”
“For taking something that didn’t belong to me. I wasn’t sorry then. I’m still not sorry now.”
I cried. I can honestly say I cried during at least two moments in this book. Like I said, Lance broke me. He has completely broken me. I want more of this love story. I want to see where this relationship goes. I’m greedy though. I’m never happy with an epilogue. I want novellas and books and spin-offs. I want it all.
She’s given someone else her other firsts, but that kiss–that still belongs to me.
I loved this book. I don’t normally write reviews, but I enjoyed this book enough to read it more than once. The main female character is a hoot. Her lack of filter had me cracking up. Thank you for writing a book that was so much fun to read.
f: Poppy
m: Lance
(Dual POVs)
This book definitely has a more serious undertone to it than the previous books in the series. Right out of the gate, this book doesn’t exactly paint a pretty picture of the hero. I have to admit I was a little skeptical if I was going to be able to be swayed into liking Lance because of how he was portrayed in the first few chapters. As time went on, I learned about Lance’s past and how vulnerable he was, which left me feeling devastated for him and desperate to show him all the love he deserved.
I fell in love with the way Lance was so tender and sweet towards Poppy; The soft, loving kisses he frequently gave to her hands and shoulders. How respectful he was towards her and how he wanted to take things slow to prove she was different to him. He tried so hard to be a gentleman and be worthy of her, I couldn’t help but be enamored by the warmth and affection he only had for her!
Now Poppy, this girl has guts cause I don’t think I would have been able to open my heart up to Lance after everything that had happened. I cannot tell you how much I admired her for her strength, bravery, and forgiveness. I was so nervous for her throughout the book cause I knew how badly she’d felt humiliated in the past and I really didn’t want to see her get her heart broken again!
Overall, I was blown away by the beauty and bravery of Poppy and Lance being extremely vulnerable with each other in favor of exploring something deep and meaningful with one another.
Favorite Quotes:
“Our pasts are part of who we are. They may shape us, but they don’t govern our future paths if we don’t want them to.” -Poppy
“Want or let?” he asks.
“Need.”
I won’t put my happiness on Poppy. That’s a burden, not a compliment. But she’s the light I needed to find my way out of the dark spaces in my head. -Lance
