Vincent Briggs had an unsavory childhood. Becoming a statistic would have been easy, but Vincent never took the easy way out of anything. Intelligent, cunning, and manipulative, he managed to do more than survive. He thrived. Now in his mid-thirties, Vincent is perceived by many as being the best in existence at his job. His profession?
Murder.Valerie Rhoades is the psychiatrist assigned to be … psychiatrist assigned to be Vincent’s mental health professional. An employee of the government’s New Dawn program, she counsels Vincent and his colleagues as they assassinate criminals the Department of Justice can’t build a legal case against.
In time, she learns the inner workings of a killer’s mind. The things they didn’t teach her in school.
Intrigued by Vincent’s ability to separate himself from his work, Valerie can’t help but wonder if beneath the killer façade that Vincent might be an anomaly. In time, they develop a rather unique working friendship.
When she learns the truth behind the government’s reasoning for the many assassinations on US soil, she contemplates leaving the program.
Little does she know, if she leaves, she’ll be next on New Dawn’s hit list.
If that happens, she has one chance at survival.
Manipulating the mind of the master at manipulation.

Psychological is not your typical Scott Hildreth book by any means. This is a very twisted tale full of suspense. Vincent Briggs is unlike any other marine, he is an assassin working for an unknown, unrecognized office of the government called New Dawn. Valerie Rhoades is the psychologist hired to debrief the agents of New Dawn. What follows is a total mind twisting rollercoaster ride that will keep you guessing and wondering what’s next. If you like the keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing what comes next, then you will like this Psychological.
PSYCHOlogical should be at the top of your TBR list!!!
I don’t just hand out 5-star reviews. They have to be earned. And, this book EARNS it in spades!!! This was probably my favorite psychological thriller in quite some time. The plot line was twisted and dark and SO believable. I instantly bonded with the main characters Vincent and Val and became heavily invested in their personal journeys. This story has one shocking surprise after another along with a major twist at the end.
If you like dark, twisted suspense as much as I do, you can’t go wrong with this book!
This is the first book I have read by this author. Though I have acquired a few of his books in my TBR, this was the first I actually read. Val and Vincent were both very relatable and real. I fell for Vincent because he was so very male. Protective and caring without the total Alpha persona. Val was very relatable as she always thought through everything she did. And the twists, so well hidden I had not a clue. The scariest part about this book is that it is so very believable. This could really be happening. And we wouldn’t even know. But that’s the whole purpose of psychological books, isn’t it? To get in your head and make the wheels spin. Well my wheels are still spinning. I absolutely loved this story and the characters. Very real and believable. Kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next!
Elite military men with one mission, keep the Nation safe from all threats, foreign and domestic.
But something isn’t right, people are not what or who they seem, loose ends are being eliminated.
Who exactly is giving the orders?
I loved this story from the first chapter.
There were so many wonderful twists and turns and more than one surprise reveal.
This author is new to me and I highly recommend to all the psychological thriller lovers out there to snatch this one up. The story line is engrossing and the writer’s style is clear and concise. This is not a romance although there is a relationship, but this story stands on it’s own without all the side plots to distract the reader.
4.5 Stars!!
This is my first by this author and won’t be my last. PSYCHOlogical was a blast to read and its clean, concise writing made it and an easy read, which doesn’t happen often with thrillers. They’re often filled with side plots and mountains of details used to misdirect and confuse the reader. Scott Hildreth’s straight forward style was quite refreshing in the genre and I couldn’t get enough. Even without all the extra’s, I didn’t see the twists coming. Well, at least not all of them. I had a few inklings here and there but the big one……not a clue it was coming.
PSYCHOlogical was an action packed, intelligent, military-esque thriller with just a touch of humor and some well played twists. I’m really hoping this author gives us more like it.
I will admit that the one and ONLY reason why I one clicked this novel was because it came to me as a recommendation, and yes I trusted it so I one clicked and dived straight in….
Good lord what an absolute ripper of a read.
Let me tell you I honestly couldn’t get enough. It was an addiction that I couldn’t put down. Reading until stupid o’clock, PSYCHOlogical had me glued.
Full of all kinds of mind blowing twists and suspense not once was it predictable. It was
un-predictable overload and I soaked up every inch of it.
Bone chilling and mysterious.
Deliciously tormenting.
Mind blowing.
A read that I can’t rate highly enough, especially for those who really love a psychological thriller.
But be prepared guys…..Nothing is what it seems and the ending will leave you….Well lets just say I had to read it twice just to make sure I was reading it right.
Get on it guys, you won’t be disappointed.
5 stars
If you pick up and start this book, hold onto your seat. This book is one hell of a ride. Mr. Hildreth has always had a talent for writing a spectacular and drawing me into a book quickly. He has been and always will be a favorite author.
Vincent Briggs and Valerie Rhoades are not your typical couple. Briggs is part of a covert group that eliminate threats to national security. Dr. Rhoades makes sure their heads are straight. There is nothing straight forward about these two. And this is nothing like any book I’ve read from Mr. Hildreth before. But this is, in my opinion, his best work to date. I was constantly surprised with the twists and direction the story went. And you never knew quite who to trust.
This is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller (for lack of a better word) and I loved every second of it.
What a mind screw!!
Just when I think the Scott can’t get better at his stories. He knocks it out of the park with this suspense! PSYCHOlogicial is just that, a bit of psycho and a bit of logical!!
This is so different then his previous stories. This isn’t romance or sex. This is suspense and a mind twist in the best way!
This story of Briggs and Valerie is so much more. This is a story of their relationship, but it’s also about trust and who people really are at the core.
This is such a page turner! Just when you think you know what’s going on, Scott will take a literary 2 x 4 upside your head and make you just say holy s**t!!!
You will not be able to put this story down! I have yet to read something from Scott that I haven’t absolutely loved!
You have done it again! Well done sir, I tip my hat to you!
This is a first from this author for me and although it wasn’t what I expected as far as the storyline, it was an excellently plotted story that I found myself tangled in looking for answers. PSYCHOlogical is well developed and written with an abundance of detail that contributes to the plot and character development.
