This is a triumphant continuation of the series, that keeps you gripped right from the beginning to the end. The plot is an excellent example of a story that follows the path of mystery and love. The characters are portrayed wonderfully. This is a book that will suit anybody who loves clean historical romances that have plenty of surprises.
Starts Off Like a Regular Regency, and Then…
The author provided a great setup for a Regency suspense story. It started off like a regular Regency romance, with a heroine who was chafing at her mother’s insistence that she seriously entertain all gentlemen above a certain rank during her second season. Her father didn’t seem to have an issue with the fact that she wanted to take her time and find true love. So far, this sounds like a standard setup for a Regency. We meet her dead cousin’s widower, and we can’t help but feel for him because of the heroine’s description of him about how he tended to his dying young wife and the brief glimpses that we get of him before the entire tenor of the novel changes. In the blink of an eye, the widower is cut down just after he handed Prudence a mysterious package that he asked her to keep safe and to keep from her parents. Stunned by what has happened, Prudence can barely move, and our hero steps in to help. He feels compelled to not only help in the moment but to assist her as well in untangling the mystery. I’ve read this author for over a year now, and I think her writing is just getting better and better. If you enjoy Regency suspense, you might enjoy this well-written book.

This was a very entertaining story. I really enjoyed the combination of the two main characters. Lady Prudent and Lord Stoneleigh (Felix). Their meeting was very original and a new friendship began. This new friendship would take them on a wild ride to solve an important mystery. As they spent more time together they were happy to realize that their hearts were beating a little faster for the other.
However, what they discovered they never expected they would find!
