When the sniper-style murder of an alligator poacher puts two rival families on edge, Police Sniper London Carter and Detective Sergeant Dawn Luke join forces to solve the case. But they’ll have their work cut out for them as the two families recruit small armies to fight each other. It doesn’t take London long to realize they’re dealing with a professional killer, but the motive for the murder is … the murder is far from clear. Will he and Dawn solve the case before it’s too late, or will the swamps of Louisiana run red with the blood of the rival families and the cops who are trying to stop them?

Like character and author
I loved the setting for this book – the swamps of LA. The author’s descriptions made you feel like you could see it. But again – there’s no need for PROFANITY or sexual situations to write a good book.
I loved getting into the swamp and the sniper mind.
Lots of twists and turns in this book. Some of authors ‘far right political views’ are a little off-putting, but a very interesting book, nonetheless.
The entire series is great!
B J Bourg gets it done again.
Great book in this series
Wow! The setting is interesting. Who would believe that alligator hunters would be sympathetic? All attempts to find the murderer are stymied. A final (and fatal) quirk of the head is the clue that leads to an unexpected and terrifying resolution.
Won’t be going down to the Bayou anytime soon after reading this
I love the novelty of deep Louisiana the BJ uses for his setting in this series as well as the Clint Wolf series. He has great characters in London & Dawn. And several unexpected twists and turns. A real page turner that doesn’t reveal its secrets until the very end!
A good second story in the London Carter series. The later books are better.
Intense!! I pretty much ignored the world in order to read the last 30%!
This was my first book by BJ Bourg, but it won’t be my last. I enjoyed the characters, the plot and the pacing. Looking forward to more!
I have read all of his books so far and I love them all !
Great story for a long car ride.
I really enjoy the author’s books.
Fun, escapist reading. I enjoyed it.
I love regional writers…..they take you to an area and just envelope you with scents, tastes, language, and close your eyes and you are there. There is Magnolia Parish in Louisiana and home of 2 clans, Simoneaux and Boudreaux, fighting ovet alligator poaching. You have eco groups yelling about cruelty to the gators, poachers, and men with too many rifles. And mosquitos, swamps, and gators.
Warning, there are shootings and they are described in detail. This book is about snipers.
I honestly thought it would be too violent, too many stereotype characters, and too macho.
I could not put this book down, read it in one long stretch as the tension mounted and the plot became more complicated.
London Carter is a cop, specially trained as a sniper. I realized this was second book in a series but I read it as a stand alone. The author has a crisp clean writing style and can have you in the humidity, swamp, and bugs in just a sentence. The plot held together tight and clues were not easy but there. The characters were well depicted and at times funny. Humor is used appropriately in dark situations.
I was so into this book that I downloaded the next book right away. You see/feel the camaraderie between the cop snipers and the discipline it takes for the job. Det. Dawn Luke is a nice addition as she is strong, high achieving, and does not flirt or play games.
Grab a cool drink, sit in the shade and savor the flavirs of Louisiana. 5 stars!
I literally could not stop reading this book. Did it in one day.
I’ve always love B.J’s books and this one didn’t disappoint me either. I just finished reading this book and loved every part of the action packed suspense!
