Wizard for hire Harry Dresden has to track down the things that go bump in the night in this novel in Jim Butcher’s #1 New York Times bestselling series. There’s no love lost between Harry Dresden, the only wizard in the Chicago phone book, and the White Council of Wizards, who find him brash and undisciplined. But war with the vampires has thinned their ranks, so the Council has drafted Harry as … Council has drafted Harry as a Warden and assigned him to look into rumors of black magic in the Windy City.
As Harry adjusts to his new role, another problem arrives in the form of the tattooed and pierced daughter of an old friend—all grown up and already in trouble. Her boyfriend is the only suspect in what looks like a supernatural assault straight out of a horror film. Tense reading, interesting but a bit twisted.
A great urban fantasy. Harry is an old friend and never fails to please.
Great fun and easy to follow as you read about the adventures of an exceptional person who happens to be a detective and wizard. Butcher is great at character building, would hope someone was smart enough to make a movie.
The Dresden Files are a must read for anyone who likes fiction/fantasy. All of the books (15 total) get five stars from me. I highly recommend Jim Butcher to everyone.
Since I found Jim Butcher and H. Dresden, I have been a fan. All the books of this series have been extremely entertaining, funny and very, very tongue-in-cheek. I enjoy Jim Butcher’s writing style and his imagination.
I wonder how many people discovered Dresden from TV, went to find the books and discovered he was even better in print. 🙂 Butcher delivers as well and better in PROVEN GUILTY.
I love everything about Harry Dresden. Have read all of Jim Butcher’s books.
It’s part of the Harry Dresden series, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every single one of this series. Can’t wait for more! This series should never end…
I love the Dresden books and also the TV series. I read all of the books in this series. Always entertaining and never dull.
Harry Dresden, Warden of the White Council of Wizards, is sent in search of black magic practitioners, and finds himself not only fighting horror movie monsters, but Charity too! He is aided by the Lady of Summer and her Knight, Murphy, and of course Bob, as he discovers that something or someone is using them. Everyone is being played, but to what end? Harry continues to fight in the ongoing war against the vampires of the Red Court, save the life of Molly, Michael’s oldest from Winter and the White Council, and resist the temptations of Lasciel. Can he do all that when his power is all tapped out?
I just can’t figure out why this book has 5 star ratings. It just drags on and on and nothing is happening over 100 pages in and the only thing going on is a monster came out at the start of the book. I pick it up read a bit-nothing, drop it for a while, try to get into it again, nothing. Just talk, talk, talk. Fast and furious? Hunh?
Love Harry Dresden
A spellbinding romp through a world of wizards, witches, ghoul, and other things that go bump in the night.
I love this series of books.
great book
Harry Dresden is a GREAT character. He is a wizard with a conscience and flaws. In this series are nasty villains, loyal allies and complex plots. Fun read – terrific series.
What can you say–it’s Harry Dresden!
How can you go wrong with a Jim Butcher book? They’re invariably witty and full of action and wild circumstance, yet always about the characters. This one is just as delightful, and well worth your attention.
I love all the books in this series!
Jim Butcher’s series, including this one, grab me and give me an escape with touches of good ethics and good action.
