If you can’t stand the heat, don’t fall for a firefighter… Mackenzie O’Neil is on a crash course with burnout. She’s got a scar on her face and a shake in her hands. A temporary job as a small-town family physician is just the prescription. She’ll learn to meditate. Sleep more. Take up gardening.
She definitely won’t take her shirtless, firefighting neighbor’s hot body for a test drive.
But Linc and his tattoos are very persuasive. What’s a harmless little adrenaline-fueled fling between neighbors? It’s all naked fun and games until the shadows from Mack’s past find their way into her present. Can Linc be her hero when she needs him the most or will their scars ruin everything?
One thing is certain: Someone is going to get burned.
Author’s Warning: This small-town happily ever after is smokin’ hot, sweetly hilarious, deliciously suspenseful, and a one-two punch to the feels. One-click for a disaster dog, precocious kids, a good ol’ fistfight, nosy neighbors, high-adrenaline first responder heroics, firefighter bromance, and kitchen sexytimes.more
Linc is the Fire Chief and comes upon an accident where they call the medical helicopter who has a new doctor Mackenzie. Linc and Mack find each other attractive, but Mack has a plan. They realize they are neighbors and they become friends. Can they become more when they want separate things. This book has amazing characters and storylines. Thank you to the first responders who are the real heroes. Highly recommended.
Oh my! I absolutely loved Linc and Macs story. It was sooooo worth the wait! The depth behind Linc, what everyone sees vs who he truly is. Mac picking herself up and becoming something/someone with her background. How she ties in with Luke and Aldo. Lucy Score is a masterminding Genius with all her little tie bits and Easter eggs that all come full circle.
Protecting What’s Mine is the third book in Lucy Score’s Benevolence series, and it is simply amazing. The first two books, Pretend Your Mine and Finally Mine, were amazing romances with comedy, love, heat and amazing emotions, and Protecting What’s Mine continues the trend and is a book that I know I will read multiple times.
We knew Linc as a hotshot ladies-man firefighter, and Luke Garrison’s nemesis, from the prior books in series. From the minute Linc stepped into the cooler with Harper and defended her in the grocery store, way back in Pretend Your Mine, I craved a book with him as the swoony ladies man that meets his match. FINALLY, my wish has been granted! Linc is adorable! He’s an amazing uncle, a great friend (even to Luke and Harper now), and he’s met his match in Mack.
Honestly, how can you go wrong in a book with an adorable dog that is constantly seeking belly rubs, a gaggle of nieces and nephews that don’t think twice about throwing their uncle under the bus, and small-town hijinx that turn every event into major gossip.
A fantastic read and an instant favorite.
Every time I think Lucy has written her best book, she blows me away with the next one. I absolutely adore Linc and Mack, and it was so fun catching up with the residents of Benevolence. It’s a standalone, so you don’t have to read Pretend You’re Mine or Finally Mine to love this book, but you should also read them because they are also beautiful stories. Mack is uncomfortable in her own skin, and watching Linc stand by and support her until she figures it out made me smile over and over. Lucy does a fantastic job capturing the danger and reward of being a first responder, one of my favorite parts of the book: “Between twisted metal and over broken glass, strangers helped strangers. Bystanders became heroes on someone else’s worst day.” Linc’s dog is a sweet layer to the story, and reading about Lucy’s real life inspiration for Sunshine will melt even the hardest heart. I love everything Lucy writes, and I highly recommend this one for anyone who appreciates strong, independent women and the alpha men confident enough to love them just as they are. Bravo, Lucy!
I never thought I would find a book boyfriend better than Aldo Moretta from Finally Mine. Step aside, Aldo, you’ve been replaced by Linc. He’s everything – tall, hot, handsome, funny, loyal, and a fireman.
Linc and Mack don’t meet cute. They meet saving lives after a horrific traffic accident. Once Linc sees Mack, she flies off with his heart.
And Linc spends the rest of the book trying to earn Mack’ s trust, respect, and love. It doesn’t hurt that Linc happens to have a sweet Yellow Lab!
This book has ALL. THE. FEELS. Love, humor, mystery, redemption, suspense, kids, dogs, bromance, old friends, new friends, and an apartment fire that is so intense you can almost feel the heat from the flames.
I highly recommend this great read from the fantastic Lucy Score!
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Lucy really hit this one out of the ballpark! She did a great job with accuracy of “the job”. Although open heart surgery is out of my scope, I could really relate to the rest. Linc and Mack’s story was also incredible and I tried to read slow so that I could drag it out. The bonus epilogue had me in tears though. 5 stars for sure!
I loved this story! Lincoln is adorable and so easy to fall in love with but I particularly love how easily he breaks down all of Mack’s walls. He handles her so well and understood (for the most part) when to give her space or not. I love books set in small towns so much because of the family and the relationships that build and Benevolence was no different! This book was amazing and Lucy Score can write so many different plot lines into a book so wonderfully!
