All I ever wanted was family. But one mistake cost me everything I’ve ever worked for.To get it all back, I’ll have to return home and protect the most stubborn woman on the face of the planet. To do that effectively, I’ll need to go undercover as…a Manny.I didn’t mean to fall for her or the kid. I really should have known better. When you get this close, it’s easy to get burned. But I’ll do … burned.
But I’ll do anything to protect them, even if it costs me everything…again.

Name Malone delivered another great read. It has all of the ingredients for a great read. A little bit of nasty, a little bit of sexiness, and a little bit of danger. Jax and Neely are my new favorite couple. It’s told in different points of view, no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a hea. I highly recommend this book.
I was excited for the start of a new series. I especially like the way it was spun off the Royals series that I really enjoyed. Ariel is rebuilding her life since she is no longer a part of the Royal Guard. As each new team member was introduced, I got more excited about the stories to come. In this one the focus starts on Jax. He is an interesting mix of badass and marshmallow. I love him being the manny. He’s a natural with the baby and doesn’t lose an ounce of his toughness. Neela’s having one of those streaks where every thing that can go wrong does go wrong. Her relationship just ended, her business is in trouble and then her oldest friend dies and leaves her custody of her baby. Neela doesn’t understand the danger her and the baby are in so Jax has to protect her without revealing who he is….the plot thickens. The story is fun and fast. The first part of the duet leaves you wanting more. I look forward to the conclusion and more stories about these characters! I received an advance copy for an honest review.
Protecting the Heiress
Another great book involving the royal family and particular the Royal Guard. Ariel was great in the other books in this series and she is just as much a spitfire in this one! Her red hair and all! This is funny at times but also filled with drama- great read and continuation of some of our favorite characters!
And Neela and Jax… wow!!!
Jax didn’t join the Royal Guard because his girlfriend didn’t want him to. She lied to him about being pregnant with his child, when the child belonged to another man. They broke up. Now Ariel was asking him if he wanted to still join the Royal Guard. He thought it was to late. Ariel could help him get in the Royal Guard. Ariel had to get Jax on her team. Neela just out of a bad relationship and into a whole nother roll. Motherhood. Neela’s best friend died in a horrible car accident and left her everything, including her baby girl. Things start to get worse for Neela. Jax is her new Manny and they develop feeling for each other. Some strange things start happening and they both need to figure out what is going on. Loved this story and can’t wait to read more.
You will love this book in the duet. I cant wait to read the next book of the duet either. This one will have you feeling all kinda of emotions too. Neely, Jax and Mayzie will keep you entertained. After Neely has dound out that she’s guardian for Mayzie, they find they have more problems then she thought. Vsomeone is threating them. Jax takes a job as Neely and Mayzie’s Manny to guard and protect them. You will have to read the next installment to find oit what happens with the cliffhanger you are left with in this book.
Jax gave it all up for a woman, only to find out the baby wasn’t his.
Now he’s on the downward spiral, doing bit jobs to get by. but the only thing he really wants is back in with the Royal Guard of the Winston Isles.
Ariel is building a team, the Royal Elite, she was once also in the Royal Guard but thanks to dear old dad, that’s no longer an option. One of her new recruits is Jax. His role is that of the manny.
Neela just inherited thirteen month old Mayzie. Ariel and Jax are brought in and Jax is hired as the new manny. But he’s really undercover, doing security for them both.
Neela tempts him but you know she’s the client.
Look but no touching.
Yeah. That’s so not happening.
Recommend.
But ends in a cliffhanger!
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Protecting the Heiress by Nana Malone is book One in The Heiress Duet. This book starts the story of Jax Reynolds and Neela Westbrook.
Jax was once part of the Royal Guard but quit due to a ex-girlfriend he thought was pregnant with his child. Jax regretted leaving and when his friend Ariel offered him a job with her new security agency the Royal Elite, he took it. Jax has to go under cover as a Manny for the newly orphaned Mayzie Mackenzie whose guardian is Neela. Neela is dealing with her own issues when she finds her best friend has died and left her 1 year old daughter, Mayzie to her. Now Neela is a new mom, in charge of Mayzie inheritance along with working to get her company back up. Neela goes forward to hire a Manny, Jax. Of course things aren’t on a easy course for them and their story continues into book 2 ‘Tempting the Heiress’. Excited to read more in their story.
ARC ~ I was given Protecting the Heiress: The Heiress Duet Book #1 by Nana Malone as an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) from Give Me Book Promotions. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
Loved it! Can’t wait for book #2 to finish up Neela and Jaz’s story.
Jaz was burned by love in the past, his ex was pregnant and asked him to leave the Royal Guard due to being in the line of fire all the time being a body guard for the Royals of Winston Isles, he quit but his ex was pregnant with someone else’s baby, now he’s a PI after being manipulated to quit the only job he loved and leave his Royal Guard Family.
Ariel found him and offered him a job and an opportunity to get back into the royal guard at the end of a year of working for her, there was no way he could refuse to go back to what he loved to do.
Neela was just getting out of a horrible relationship with her ex business partner who upon their romantic break-up also decided to break-up the company, he took all the larger well paying clients, all but two of the employees and they had a clause drawn up that any money’s that came in from their combined current clients would be split but Richard wasn’t going to give her anything all he wanted was to take it all from her.
Neela received some devastating news her best friend died in a car accident and left custody of her thirteen-month-old daughter to her care as well as making her a trustee over her Daughter Mazie’s inheritance. So much has happened within the last month and now she’s a Mom to a one-year old beautiful little girl but she needs help caring for her while she is struggling to keep her company open. The lawyer in charge of the trust suggested a nanny be brought in, little does Neela know the nanny service is actually a protection company, body guards because her deceased best friend Willa was associated with some shady characters. Enter Jax the Manny.
At first sight the physical attraction was thick enough to cut with a knife. The attraction grows the deeper you get into the story.
Great characters, amazing can’t put the book down story with good twists.
I really can’t wait for book two to come out!
Again, thank you Nana Malone.
Nana Malone has thrown me for a loop in Protecting The Heiress. This is so much more than royal romance. This is a thriller, a mystery, a sizzling hot romance and for me a clear cut winner.
This story is told from multiple POV. The first book of a duet, this story is all about building the anticipation and thickening the plot. The story starts when Ariel, ex-Royal guard of Winston Isles and best friend of the queen set out to recruit another ex-Royal guard Jax Reynolds as part of her new private security team Royal Elite. The first job they have is work undercover to protect Mayzie, a little girl who lost her mother Willa and her guardian Neela Westbrook, cryptoanalyst and Willa’s best friend after Willa dies in a suspicious car crash and Neela gets all the assets. Jax takes the job of Mayzie’s manny. But Neela and Jax are attracted insanely to each other. And it is a very very bad idea.
While Neela and Jax is the primary story here, the author put equally interesting and captivating secondary plots in the story. The secondary stories are very cleverly mixed with main story so it never felt distracting. On the contrary it added to the complexity and intensity. I have so many questions and I was eagerly turning pages to see what’s going to happen next. What is the issue between Ariel and Prince Tristan? What is happening in King Sebastian’s mind? What is there in Willa’s coded diary? The suspense kept me on the edge of the seat. The story was a real roller coaster that gave me whiplash from changing directions every moment.
The writing was super. The characters were so different! I loved each of them. They have own personalities and quirks and awesome traits. I am really impressed how the author balanced everything. Neela is sweet, caring, extremely smart woman but she is struggling with everything life is piling up on her. And Jax is soothing her and protecting her. This sweet talking, dirty mouthed, intense, protective, skilled and super hot alpha British is pure deliciousness. Their chemistry is sizzling hot but the push and pull was amazing! And the ending was pure torture! I can’t wait to read next book!
Nana Malone hypnotized me with her brilliant writing, mindblowing story line and a great combination of characters. It had sweet and sexy romance. It had royal conspiracies and secret agency thrills. It had suspense and mystery. It left me wanting for more! It had too many great things in perfect sync.
Received ARC for Honest Review
Her best friend is gone and now she’s a new mom. Neela is going through a rough patch when, out of the blue, she finds out her best friend Willa has left her everything: including her baby girl Mayze. Due to the nature of this inheritance, Neela begrudgingly agrees to get some help but is adamant about not having security personnel. Jax is former Royal Guard. He is hired by Ariel, best friend of Queen Penny who readers met in previous books, to come work for her new company and is now tasked with being a “manny” for little Mayze. As the storyline heats up, Willa’s mother shows up and pitches a fit when she realizes what her daughter did. Can she be involved with the danger that is surrounding Neela and Mayze? This is one page-turning, witty book filled with betrayal, intense attraction, steamy scenes, lies of omission and the integration of the other loveable characters that readers have come to know by reading these series of books. It does end in a cliffhanger but do not let that deter you as this is one journey as precious as a newborn babe. I cannot wait for the continuation of this story!
I don’t know how she does. Nana Malone brings life to characters. Wonderful, vibrant, kick-ass characters that readers cannot get enough of. This book is about the first member of Ariel’s team, Royal Elite. Jax was recommended by Roone. He had been in the Royal Guard and left. Unfortunately another rule of the Royal Guard is once you leave, you can never go back. Ariel found him doing some private investigation and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
In walks, Miss Neela Westbrook and her very newly inherited charge, Maysie. Maysie is the heiress needing the protection. Jax happens to be good with babies and great with protection but can he stop his growing need for Neela.
This book has it all and is a part of a two-part series so it ends in a cliffhanger. Nana has definitely mastered the art of leaving you craving for more. Her writing pulls you end so deep that you are almost scarred when you learn that you won’t get the gratification of hearing the whole story just yet. I think that aspect also makes you yearn for more.
Jax and Neela give me life. Also, you learn a few tidbits about the other Royal couples that we have grown to love. The urge for Ariel’s love story will grow stronger with this book. So much to learn, so many new characters to get to know. I absolutely cannot wait to see what will happen next.
I gave this book five stars because it was spectacular. Jax and Neela were great together. I wonder what her friend Willa was into. I am so glad they gave into their desires. I can’t wait for the next book. Good job Nana!
Nana Malone is brilliant. I have never read a book of hers that I didn’t like. Protecting the Heiress, book one in the Heiress Duet was sexy, suspenseful, and intriguing. Holy Batman, what’s not to love about Jax? He’s hot, can cook, and can change a diaper. He is almost perfection except for those secrets that he’s keeping from Neela. The plot was great through in an adorable baby and you have a winner. I can’t wait for book two.
What a HOOT!! I can always depend on Nana Malone to give me a GREAT BIG LAUGH, along with the big, bad alpha getting dumped on his very firm butt by a knockout, beautiful, sassy lady and a little, bitty lady, all the while trying to protect them both. Love this Rom-com and looking forward to the next one.
Protecting the Heiress is a fast paced, sexy as heck first half of new spin-off series by Nana Malone. Ariel has started her own security business and has a great cast of new characters for us to sink ourselves into. Jax is Ariel’s first recruit, a referral from Roone and an ex-Royal Guard like Ariel. His first assignment is as a Manny for a 1 year old heiress. Not only does his heart melt for the little girl but also for her new mommy Neela. I am so happy to be back in the Winston Isles with all of Nana Malone’s writing goodness.
This is the first in a two book series, so be prepared for a cliffhanger! But despite hating cliffhangers, this was a good read. Mystery, intrigue, romance, and some interesting life situations make this a fast paced read. Add in that you get to reconnect with many of Ms. Malone’s past characters and you have a great world building book.
This reads as a bodyguard/nanny romance, but the beginning had me guessing if we didn’t get to see Ariel with a happily ever after before moving to Jax and Neela. As a parent, it made me sad for the baby who lost her mother, but glad that a guardian had been named, and all the boring and heartbreaking legal things laid out to take care of Mayzie.
Neela is a business owner going through a tough time in love-dealing with a breakup that also is affecting her business. And then she’s named the guardian of her friend’s baby. And while that’s all a lot for a person to deal with, she does so in ways that are relatable and understandable and justified. I liked her as a person and as a mother. I loved how we were introduced to Jax through Ariel; a man scorned by love and trying to get back on track with his life. He’s hardworking, even if he has be temporarily labeled a “manny.”
One of the reasons I liked Neela so much is her reaction to Jax. Realizing he’s hot, and acting like a total doofus. Because I’m pretty sure that’s how I’d be. And her internal monologue is laugh out loud funny! Jax’s is as well, from the male viewpoint. So they chemistry is there, despite them trying to be professional and deny it. And when they finally let their guard down, despite some bad situations happening, the writing is sensual and well done, and I liked their interactions.
Ms. Malone has a fairly predictable and even writing style. Nice and easy to enjoy and follow, but with lots of mystery and unknowns. It didn’t totally suck me in, but I think this has been one of my favorite books of hers so far.
Conclusion – Recap how you felt about the book. Will you read other books by this author? Would you recommend this book to others? Final thoughts on book.
To get the most out of this book, I would recommend reading the Royals Undercover, Royals Undone, Royals United, and Royal Elite books. You will get a better picture of the entire character universe and the references to other characters will make more sense. I’m can’t wait to see what Neela uncovers and how book two ends!

Jax Reynolds made a mistake when he quit the Royal Guard. Ariel Scott offers Jax a way back in by joining her new security agency Royal Elite. Their first client is attorney Mr. Bipps, who’s the executor of Willa MacKenzie’s will. Jax goes undercover as a live-in manny for newly orphaned baby Mayzie MacKenzie, whose beautiful guardian Neela Wellbrook refuses to hire security. From their first meeting, Jax wants Neela so bad it sucker-punchs him … and the feeling’s mutual. Jax and Neela start getting really close but what happens when Neela finds out Jax is hiding a secret?
Protecting the Heiress is a funny, intriguing, suspenseful and steamy story you won’t be able to put down. I can’t wait to read Tempting the Heiress, Book 2 of The Heiress Duet
We are back to our favorite Winston Isles gang with new characters to enjoy. The 1st book in the series we are introduced Jax and Neela. Without giving away too much this book contain the trademark humor, sass, and action we have come to expect from the author. I will admit there were moments where I had a range of emotions courtesy of some of the characters. Baby Mayzie was a little scene stealer for sure. Of course, I expected the cliffhanger, but that didn’t stop me from virtually shaking my fists (Why!!!). I am looking forward to seeing which of my theories are true in Book 2. Consider my curiosity peaked and more.
Who doesn’t like a man that’s good with babies! I’m really enjoying Jax & Neely & the rest of the Winston Isles gang. Loving the new characters too! Can’t wait for more!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Neela suddenly is the guardian of 13minth old Mayzie – child of Neelas once best friend – due to an accident that took Willa’s live. Being the center of attention and a little out of her league taking care of an infant Jax seems the answer to her one problem in watching the kid while she’s at work. This one is yet another wonderful story by the author. You get all the bodyguard aka manny talk – also King and Queen of the Wilson Island play a huge role.
