Lady Annise Belmont lives the life of a peer while secretly writing as the author A. Bel. When the magistrate wants to question A. Bel about a murder that mirrors a scene in one of her books, she realizes her identity is in danger of being exposed and worse, she could be arrested for a homicide. She runs to a man she’s secretly adored—the only one who can help her.
Mr. Devan Lansing, a … solicitor, is shocked when Lady Annise shows up on his doorstep. He’s always held affections for her, but never acted on them because of their societal differences. While battling demons from his past, Devan vows to do whatever necessary to keep her safe.
The murderer, however, has other plans.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I enjoyed how she tells a story. Even though this is book 3 of a series, I was not lost. But, it will make me read the others prior because the secondary character’s in this want me to see how they got their HEA.
One of the main things I enjoyed was the honesty of our H/h with themselves and others. One part the h overhears her so called friends discussing herself and her new husband. Instead of leaving and anguishing over her so called friends hurtful words. She confronts them and it was priceless.
This is a mystery suspense story, which I usually am not drawn too, but this has changed my mind. Our h is an author and someone is mimicking the murder she wrote in her book. Oh, the path to discover who is the villain was very entertaining. I must admit I had two I thought could be the killer.
We get romance, lovemaking within marriage, heat level 3 out of 5 if that. No cheating, no cliffhanger, amazing main and secondary character’s, HEA and a tad of spice. (ljb)
London – 1820
Lady Annise Belmont secretly writes murder mysteries under the name A. Bel. Her publisher has come to visit her to say that someone committed a murder based on a scene in her latest book, “Manhunter.” However, the murder happened before the book was published. Now, the police want to question her and her publisher fears that someone may be targeting his authors.
Annise heads to see her friend, Mr. Devan Lansing, whose father owns a textile company. She asks to stay at his home for awhile for his protection to which he readily agrees.
Devan has always cared for Annise but feels that he is socially below her. Annise disagrees with that. Staying at his home for him to protect her as he investigates the situation could ruin her so he propose marriage to her and she accepts.
They find happiness with other right away yet know that they must be careful about hiding her. But when her family and friends find out she is married, they are happy for her. However, one person is not so sure about her. Could this be the reason for the murder of the author and is Annise the next target?
This is a very well written plot which includes characters from the author’s previous novels. I’m sure that readers will enjoy the suspense and the love expressed between Annise and Devan.

Another wonderful addition to an awesome series! Ms. St. John has once again delivered a very well crafted and intriguing story that will capture your attention from the very beginning and keep you invested till the end. Lady Annise is being targeted in a murder plot and she turns to Devan to help her. Devan has always carried a torch for her and now their relationship finally has a chance to develop. This is a wonderfully written romantic suspense that is full of plot twists that will keep you guessing till the end. I definitely recommend this book and the whole series!
I received this book as an advanced reader’s copy and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.
London, England 1829
The written word can often imitate life, but when murder comes into play, is it a portent on what is to be?
“A woman was murdered in the same fashion you wrote about in Manhunter. The magistrate wishes to question you.” Lady Annise Belmont, writing under the pen name A.Bel could not believe what she was hearing. “Anyone who read my book could have done it.” she said to her publisher but he could only say “The murder happened before the book’s release.”.
But it goes much deeper than that as to the victim, and her publisher wanted her to flee the country although she was not guilty.
Her only thought was to flee and the only person she felt to help her was solicitor, Devan Lansing. The first time they met Devan had been attracted to her. But their stations put her above him. Yet he was determined to help her prove her innocence and find out what was happening.
An enthralling mystery and romance that pulled me in immediately with believable characters that pulled the story along. I have enjoyed every book in this series and cannot say enough about Tess St. John’s writing that leaves me only wanting more!
This Historical romance was well written with a plot that flowed smoothly from page to page and characters that were created with such great detail and depth that I was totally engaged throughout the entire book!
Another success in the series. Annise finds herself in trouble and goes to the one person she knows will help her. Devan is finally at peace with his father after all the trauma he has suffered. He has always admired Lady Annise and is happy to offer her assistance. Tess St. John weaves romantic suspense in her stories that keep the readers turning the pages. Having familiar characters makes it even more interesting as their lives intersect through the entire series. I love that the pairings are unexpected and cross the societal divide. This is just another story to add to the win column and to read more than once.
A suspenseful historical romance, this novel thrusts the reader into a world of crime from the opening sentence. Discovering that her non de plume is about to be exposed, Lady Annise goes to the one man in London who can help her. Annise has been side-lined and rejected by her parents since she was a young girl and her self-esteem has suffered. Nevertheless, she is has become a strong woman with a will of steel, making her a force to be reckoned with. Devan Lansing has carried a torch for Lady Annise since he first met her, admiring her incisive mind and her ability to succinctly state her case. As a lawyer, he appreciates her ability with words but realises that their stations in life are so far apart that he does not stand a chance of winning her heart. That is until she appears on his doorstep looking for help. The plot of this story is interesting and keeps the reader in suspense as Annise and Devan try to determine the reasons for Annise being targeted. As their relationship develops one cannot help but want to cheer them on, but Annise’s overdeveloped logic keeps getting in the way. The story is well written and kept my interest right through. It is part of a series and in order to fully appreciate the nuances of this novel, it does help to read the preceding books. It nevertheless comes to a happy conclusion, leaving me with a feeling that all is well with the world. I received a copy of this novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
A charming love story. Devan Lansing has had an affection for Lady Annise Belmont but felt beneath her status as a peer in society. Lady Annise is a writer under the pen name A. Bel. When trouble finds her she turns to her friend and solicitor, Devan. Together, the attraction grows. It was a joy to revisit all the characters in the Regency Redemption series. The plot was filled with a well-crafted mystery to solve to protect Lady Annise. I recommend the whole series.
