Julie Lytle is working hard to turn her life around. Being kidnapped by sex traffickers changed her drastically, but having grown up the spoiled daughter of a senator, Julie wishes she could’ve changed just a little sooner. Shamed by her behavior toward the woman rescued alongside her, and further embarrassed and guilt-racked over the way she treated the SEALs who risked their lives on her … behalf, Julie is desperate to make amends.
With help from a D.C. acquaintance who’d endured her own harrowing experience, Julie connects with Patrick Hurt, Commander of the SEALs who’d saved her life. If she can prove she’s not the same person who mistreated his team, he’ll grant her request to meet them—but not before the protective, sexy man makes a surprising request of his own.

An unusual 4* rating from me but if I’m honest, it’s less about this story and more about me being unable to truly forgive Julie for being a Queen B**** in Fiona’s story. I struggled to believe she deserved a HEA of her own that didn’t result in her marrying for money and being unhappy for the rest of her life…( I may or may not be known for holding a grudge..)
However, SS is clearly much more forgiving than I which results in this actually being a great story. And it does somewhat redeem Julie as much as I may or may not resent that fact.
The bit I do love is Hurt getting his HEA after being such an integral part of so many of the stories previously.
Appearances from the other characters in this series round it out well as they are always fantastic to read and as much as I wanted to not enjoy this book there is the normal sign of satisfaction at the end of this book synonymous with an SS book concluding exactly as it should
Julie was the other woman we saw in Protecting Fiona. After getting away from a hellish situation, she realizes her actions back then were terrible. She wants to make it right. Tex agrees to give her the commander’s number to let her try convincing him to meet with his team.
Commander Hurt isn’t sure if he should open past wounds for his team. After he meets Julie, he decides she needs it. She had changed, and she wasn’t the woman she used to be.
They agree to go on a date before he helps her with his team. They hit it off and gave it a chance.
Julie takes off to help a child, and that might put her in danger. Hurt and a few of his men will have to look for her.
This book is about second chances and how people can change for the better. No matter how hard it might seem, if you work hard to change, you’ll get there.
It’s a quick read that holds plenty of emotions inside it.
Up front I just wanna say that book warmed my heart. Julie was at home and safe with her father. But she wanted to do more since her time in Mexico. Julie has been working on turn her life around. She know that wouldn’t accrue until she made it right with the guys who saved her life. So, Julie got with on of her friends who was dating a guy that was special forces. He gave her the number of Tex, he would probably help her out more than anybody else that he knows . Julie wants to apologize to the SEALs that recused her and Fee out of Mexico. Julie couldn’t move to California, on her own and start the shop that she wanted to do. Julie start a 2nd hand store but it was high fashion store that not only let normal people could come in and buy. The money that the store brought in she use it to help women shelters. She also donated business wear to women for when they went on job interviews. Because most of the women in the shelters didn’t have nice things to wear for job interviews. Julie also want to help teen girl who couldn’t afford to buy prom dresses. One day Ice, and two of her friends went into Julie’s store. A few days later Ice came back with the rest of friends that include Fee. When Fee realized who she was, Ice saw how white Fee got and the other women went to protection mode, So that Fee would have another flash back. They gotten her out there really fast. Before Julie left home she had called Tex and he had called her back once she had reached California. Tex gave her Commander Hurt phone number. He had meet with her to see how serious she was about apologizing to his team that got her out of Mexico..
Can’t wait to see what happens next.
I just wanted… more. While Julie’s character arc was interesting (especially if you read the book where she first appears, RESCUING FIONA), I never felt like I really got to know Commander Hurt.
This author always provides a good story like in this book about Julie and Patrick. Julie had previously been rescued by SEALs and felt she behaved poorly during her rescue. She wants to apologize to the team members and has to go through their commander. The characters are well written and the story is sweet and heartwarming with how Julie’s character has changed and how their love story evolved.
When Julie had a role in a previous story I couldn’t stand her, she was a witch.
Bad circumstances bring out the worst in people and I’m so glad that the author gave us an insight into this character and the changes in her life. The Team’s commander is our supporting character in this one, he’s heard of her but meeting her was a whole different story. I loved their story, it wasn’t long enough but none of them ever are when you just want more.
“Protecting Julie” is a novella that I wasn’t sure I wanted to read, but I finally decided to give it a chance and I am so glad that I did. Julie Lytle was the woman that the SEAL’s went to rescue in “Protecting Fiona” and I did not like her even a little bit in that book. Now she is ashamed of the way she acted and is trying to turn her life around from being the spoiled little rich daughter of a Senator, in other words a brat. She feels like she needs to talk to the SEAL’s that rescued her to thank them and to apologize, but those guys aren’t really wanting to that, they had enough of Julie in their previous encounter with her. Patrick Hurt, the commander of the SEAL team sees something in Julie that maybe other people have missed, he feels like she is trying to turn the page on her past and move forward with a better future. Hey, if the Commander sees something in her then there is something there to see.
I cannot believe that this author made me like a character that I loathed as much as I did Julie, but she did it!
Love to hate on Julie –
Julie has a lot to regret in her life – mostly being selfish to anyone being part of the Seal-Team that rescued her out of the jungle about one and a half year back. A very intense novella about second chances and forgiveness that will get to you.
I first saw Julie in Cookie & Fiona’s story. She was awful! That led me to listen to this story, my curiosity getting the best of me. It led me well. The Julie I saw in this story was much changed. It is hard to believe that her conscience called her on it but apparently it did. She turns out to be a nice person. The immediate thing with the Commander is unbelievable. I would be interested in Senator White’s reaction to the 15 year age difference.
Over all a good story line but rather difficult to totally buy into it all.
We finally get to meet the SEAL team Commander, Patrick Hurt. Julie Lytle from Protecting Fiona shows up in Protecting Julie and we get the “rest of her story.” She’s been unable to move on after her rescue mostly because of her horrific behavior towards all involved. Trying to change your life and becoming a better person means doing whatever it takes to move on even if your outreach is rebuffed. Patrick gives Julie the courage to face those she wronged. While doing so he finds the woman he’s been waiting for.
Just finished this one. Even though it didn’t involve a rescue by the Seal team we all love to read about, it involved the leader, Patrick. I won’t tell you what it’s about, but we get to know Julie, the bitch from ‘Protecting Fiona’. This is a great read! don’t miss this one.
Julie’s redemption
We met Julie for the first time in Protecting Fiona, when the SEAL team is called in to rescue a Senator’s daughter who was kidnapped and potentially on her way to a buyer. The SEAL team manages to find her and rescue her and Fiona. Unfortunately, her behaviour is less than stellar and now a year and a half later, she is trying to redeem herself and her previous bitchy ways, by getting into contact with the SEALs that rescued her, to thank them. She never expected to encounter their SEAL Commander Patrick, who is a hot package of sexiness
A good story about turning your life around and making the best you can with the second chance you’ve been given…earning your redemption and finding love
I’m so glad this book was written. Julie was so horrible in the original book that I was nice to see her redeem herself.
We all do things we regret later on and Julie hit it out of the park for this but it doesn’t mean we can’t learn from it and grow.
This is the story of Commander Hurt and Julie. If you didn’t like Julie in Protecting Fiona, this book gives more background to her story, and why she acted the way she did. I loved the fact that Commander Hurt was given a story as I have always enjoyed his character. I like these books because they are action packed, and happily ever after with strong alpha male characters, and the strong women who fall in love with them.
