The only woman I want is the one I can never have. Harper. My best friend’s sister. I’ve wanted her since I was eighteen, but she’s always been off-limits. Now I’m home after years in the Marines, and nothing has changed–except everything has. Her brother is dead, and she’s on a hopeless quest for answers about his death. And I want her just as much as ever. Someone is trying to kill her now, and … ever.
Someone is trying to kill her now, and she won’t let me keep her safe. I have to protect her anyway, even if she doesn’t trust me, even if she hates me for it. A man protects what’s precious to him, whether or not he can ever claim her for his own.
And Harper has always been precious to me.
Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister was originally published as Duty Bound. It has since been expanded, revised, and re-edited.

Intriguing
Harper always tagged along after her brother Gavin & his best friend Levi. Now she was burying Gavin and getting mad at Levi for living. She wants to know why he died. She is getting death threats. Levi tries to protect her but finally admits he has cared for her four a long time. Will they figure out who out is.
Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister is tragic, suspenseful and emotional romance. Harper and Levi’s love story is one of pain, regret and danger. History has not been kind to their hearts, but perhaps grief could give them a second chance. Between her suspicions and his feelings of guilt, shared grief over a fallen loved one is the one commonality they share. Or that either will admit to. Can love for her brother and his friend save them? Or will her quest for answers prove her undoing? The first person narrative, the intense attraction along with the thrill of danger all combine to deliver a poignant, romantic and turbulent second chance story.
Meh
I really wanted to like this story. Hunky military man looks after his best friend’s sister…but it seems to just exist. The potential is there and yet it falls flat for me. Not enough depth or meat to sink your teeth in..just meh
This was a light, easy read. The characters were both entertaing and had good banter. I enjoyed it.
I absolutely loved Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister! It is the first book in The Protectors series co-written by Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams. Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister was a wonderfully written love story. Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams have provided amazing characters. I love how all the characters in Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister feel like best friends! Who doesn’t love hot sexy men, strong, passionate females, and loving friends, who always support one another? Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams delivered that and so much more. I really enjoyed Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister and am looking forward to reading the other books in The Protectors series. I have read other books by Samantha Chase and have always enjoyed her wonderfully written love stories, so I decided to give her co-written series a try, and I was not disappointed; I could not put it down and loved every page. Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams are amazing storytellers. I enjoy how Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams wrote the series in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. That way you get to know what is going on in each of their minds. Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister is a wonderful love story and is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud and the bittersweet moments that cause me to sigh, say aww to myself with tears filling my eyes. Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister be filled with such moments, and with so much more. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Who doesn’t love a story about a best friend’s little sister love story? Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister is the story of Harper Murphy, investigative reporter, and Levi, her late brother, Gavin’s best friend, a former Marine. Harper and Levi reunite at Gavin’s funeral. Gavin died on a mission with the Marines, and Harper wants answers to what really happened to him. Levi feels guilty for his part in Gavin’s death, but will not reveal the details to Harper. While Harper is investigating what really happened to cause Gavin’s death, mysterious incidents occur surrounding her. Levi is concerned about the incidents and starts to hang out with her acting as a body guard. While Harper and Levi spend more time with one another, things change between them. Levi informs Harper that he has always had feelings for her, but Gavin did not approve, he explained why he stood her up as her date for her senior prom. A plot twist changes everything between them. Since the local police could not solve the threats against Harper, Levi decides to investigate for himself and is able to discover who is behind the threat to Harper. I love how Harper and Levi show their vulnerable sides. I love Levi’s relationship with the other Marines, Sebastian, Cole and Declan, who were in his unit and were involved in the mission that led to Gavin’s death, it feels like a real friendship, and I love how they support one another, and have each other’s backs. My favorite part of the book was the ending and how Harper and Levi both get closure for Gavin’s death. I also enjoyed epilogue and how it sets up the foundation for the other books in the series. Protecting His Best Friend’s Sister contains all the things that I have come to love most and expect in a Samantha Chase story, romance, great characters and setting, bittersweet moments and the plot twist that ties it all together. Amazing story. I could not put it down. Highly recommend this wonderful romance. I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
I had a really hard time liking Harper. The story was written well, I loved it but Harper was something else. I just wanted to smack her. There were many layers to this story. The guilt seemed to eat at everyone. I can’t wait to get the rest of the guys stories.
A Wonderful Surprise!! Let me first say, I am not a big fan of stories told in the first-person voice or the falling for the best friends sister sub-genre BUT I do love Ms. Chase’s stories! So I decided to give this story a shot and BOY, am I glad I did!! This story was FANTASTIC!! Harper and Levi are HOT!! I also enjoyed the touch of suspense that just added to a great story. Iam so excited and looking forward to reading more stories in this series!!
Harper lost her brother, a Marine. Her questions about his death are placing her in danger. Levi was her brothers best friend. Levi has had a crush on Harper since he helped her fix a flat on the side of the road. He struggles with loving her and wanting to be with her, and doing what his best friend would have wanted. Intriguing, page turning romance.
What can I say? I bought a book and never read it. Several months ago, I bought the book Duty Bound by Noelle Adams and Samantha Chase. I love these authors!! However, due to prior reading commitments, I have not read Duty Bound or the rest of the series yet. I have a very bad habit of doing this. I fully admit I am a “One-Click” addict. I even belong to a Facebook page stating this. In this particular case, I am ecstatic. I just finished the Protecting His Best Friends Sister, the revised and updated version of Duty Bound. OH! MY! FREAKING! GOSH!!! (Sorry, Catholic upbringing…lol) SPECTACULAR!!!!!! But, I am not surprised, look at the writing team that originally wrote, and revised the book, Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams.
I LOVE a romance about our heroes of the military, current and retired. I love watching them fall in love and making a life outside of the military, finding that woman or man that completes their lives. This is such a book.
Harper is the sister of his best friend, a fallen hero, and Levi has been in love with Harper most of his life, but will not admit it.
Harper had watched Gavin, Harper’s brother, and Levi grow into fine men for most of her live. Harper’s crush on Levi grew into love, and when he offered to take her to the prom? Well, she was in heaven. That is, until she was dressed and ready to go and Levi never showed up, then, devastation set in. And hatred. You know, there is sometimes a very thin line between hatred and love?
Levi never forgot about Harper, or forgiven himself for not taking her to the prom all those years ago. But, now, he knows why she hates him, when Harper asks him why he did not show up the night of the prom…. Sorry, ladies, not giving any spoilers away. You will have to read the book to find this out.
I absolutely loved watching these two reconnect and fall in love. The frustrations for both Levi and Harper, loved every word.
I cannot wait to read the rest of this revised series. Someday, I will read the original versions when I find some extra time, to see how these books were revised. I do not want any spoilers either, so I will read the new books first.
Kudos, Ms. Adams, and Ms. Chase, you ladies make a phenomenal writing duo. I have yet to read a book of either of you that I have not absolutely loved. Keep up the phenomenal work.
Thank you for reading my review. Now on to Protecting the Enemy, I can’t wait to see what Sebastian is going to get into!!!
A happy moment contrasted with a somber devastating moment. Harper in cutoffs & a tank top while Levi changed her tire contrasting with Harper standing beside her brother Gavin’s gravesite. Four close friends standing together feeling lost & missing the fifth. How do you survive & go on? How do you adjust to life outside of the military when people expect you to be the same when so much has changed?
This book was surprisingly emotional. There was the despair & horror of four young friends burying their best friend, Gavin. Levi & Gavin had grown up together & met Sebastian, Declan & Cole in boot camp. The experiences there & while deployed wound around the five and made them a family. After losing Gavin, they are home & having trouble adjusting. Levi has always had feelings for Harper but now feels guilty for even considering anything.
There was the disbelief & refusal to accept the situation of Harper. The is accurately portrayed by Harper insisting there’s a cover up & that she wasn’t getting the entire truth. There were times that her attitude comes across as rude & almost bullying. She’s so determined to be considered strong & independent, she can’t politely accept help & really doesn’t listen to what others are telling her.
The main focus is on Levi & Harper wth the supporting characters adding depth, realism & direction. They are fighting the obvious attraction for different reasons. With the mysterious threats, the plot takes some unexpected twists & turns. If you like contemporary romances with intense attraction & hot sex & a mystery running through out, you need to give this one a shot!
