No matter how far she runs her past will find her, but hopefully so will he. Dakota James’s life has become the stuff of nightmares. The leader of the Ansar al-Shari’a terrorist group has become obsessed with her, determined to take her as his wife. On the run, she’ll have to pin her hopes on the retired SEAL charged with finding and stopping Aziz Fourati before he can carry out plans to bomb … he can carry out plans to bomb more US airports.
Recently recruited to join a sleeper team tasked with fighting terrorism on US soil, Slade “Cutter” Cutsinger, with the help of some Special Forces friends, has located the one woman who can identify the deadly Ansar al-Shari’a leader. That was the easy part.
Keeping her safe proves more difficult than anyone ever imagined. When she and her new friend, Caroline, are kidnapped by the terrorist group, Dakota can only pray Cutter and the SEALs will reach them before they’re taken out of the country–and away from Cutter forever.
**Protecting Dakota is a part of the SEAL of Protection Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings. Each book in this series is a standalone novel, and the series does not have to be read in order.

I love these characters and storylines! Cutter and Dakota are fantastic!
Exciting!! One of the many reasons I enjoyed this story was, the hero & heroine are in their mid to late 40’s. It was great reading about a HOT, retired Navy SEAL and a woman who is mature, vibrant and in need of protection. This story was exciting, steamy and full of suspense. My favorite kind of romance! Can’t wait to read more of the Sleeper SEAL’s series!!
I loved the fact that Susan brought in some of her other characters from her Protector Series in this book.
I loved it! The young bucks have got nothing on Cutter. I loved the mature hero and heroine. They were sexy and romantic, yet realistic. And capturing the bad guy was super satisfying.
Loved it!
Protecting Dakota is the great kick off to the multi-author Sleeper SEAL series. As usual Susan Stoker gives us two stellar characters and surrounds them with a story that has suspense, drama, danger, action and let’s not forget romance.
When Slade “Cutter” Cutsinger agreed to take an off the books op, he never would have imagined falling for a woman after just seeing her picture. Dakota James captured his interest immediately and meeting her in person only solidified his gut reaction. Dakota has had to give up her well ordered life because she’s in danger and subsequently are all those around her. Meeting Slade has her being able to take a relaxed breath for the first time in what seems like ages. She too knows that he’s special and trusts him with her safety. When things go sideways Cutter gets help from Wolf’s SEALs team but not before it almost becomes deadly.
You cannot go wrong with this author!
Protecting Dakota is another awesome book by Susan Stoker. I loved everything about this book.
It’s touching, suspenseful, exciting, & romantic.
You will also love hearing about Tex, Wolf, Caroline & the rest of the Seal team from other Susan Stoker books.
I highly recommend for everyone to read this book
The first book in the Sleeper Seals series and at the same time the last in the Seals of Protection series combined everything that could happen from within the previous books. And Caroline playing another huge part. So, Dakota and Slade, her being scared out of her mind and on the run from a serious thread and him being part of a secret group that’s supposed to act as a one man show, is out to save and protect her from said thread. A very wonderful story about trust, faith and love that perfectly fits into the Seals world of marriage, friendship and families you read about in the previous books. To bad it seems like it’s now finally over – I do hope Wolf and his teammates get some part in another book by Susan. Would be to bad to never read from them ever again.
This is the first story I have read by Susan Stoker. It is evident many of the side characters have stories previously told I need to go back and read. Mot that this story is dependent upon them. They do pique my interest tho.
I enjoyed all the characters. Their close bonds were more than evident. The insta-love story was good and made more plausible because it was addressed so many times. I was a little uncomfortable with how much reincarnation had such a focus as that is well outside my comfort zone. I’ll leave it like that.
Pleasant read before bed. Little angst followed by true love. Nothing special but perfectly enjoyable.
I love the interesting female characters who deal with a real life issue and issues that usually aren’t written about.
Slade “Cutter” Cutsinger was recruited by a recently formed sleeper SEAL team to find Dakota James, who caught the eye of the leader of the Ansar al-Shari’a, a terrorist group bent on bombing US airports.
Dakota was captured by Aziz Fourati, the leader of the Ansar al-Shari’a. Slade, together with his friends, do all they can to rescue her from becoming the terrorist’s bride.
Protecting Dakota was intense. Susan Stoker created a story so action-packed from the very first chapter that I literally had problems setting it aside to breathe, and wanting to know what happens ASAP.
And then came that scene where I knew I had to set the story aside for while. Not because I did not like what I read, but because I felt too much. When I finally told myself to read/listen to the rest of the story, I was glad that I did. It would have been a disservice for me not to finish Dakota and Slade’s saga.
Protecting Dakota brings to mind the lengths to which people with unnatural thirst for power go through just to prove a point. From 9/11 to the Easter bombings, people whose ideologies run counter to what they believe in have seen fit to resort to terrorism. Never mind the loss of life, for them, a point had to be made no matter the cost. Is it really worth the destruction?
In the case of Dakota, do men really have to prove their superiority through the subjugation of women? Should one’s religious belief be more “godly” than others? Should one’s color, one’s status in society, one’s wealth, be the ticket to a better life? Then again, humans and animals have one thing in common–our blood runs red in our veins. And when we pass from this life, whether by natural causes or foul, it will only be the earth that wins in the end.
Now that I got that off my chest–dear reader, don’t pass this one up. Don’t pass any of Susan Stoker’s books for that matter, and keep in mind, to always have an eye out for the gems beneath her words. You won’t regret it!
Loved this!!
Susan Stoker has joined up with many of my favorite authors to bring the Sleeper SEALs to life.
There’s a new series coming in a few months Silver Seals so I thought I’d better get these re-read and reviewed.
This first book brings to light a fear many of us have. That of domestic terrorists.
Dakota survives a domestic terror attack because the leader is attracted to her. She manages to escape him but is now on the run.
Recruited by the CIA to be a sleeper SEAL, Cutter’s first assignment is to find Dakota, get a description of the terrorist and protect her while they flush him out. His first stop on this journey is to her father. Skeptical as to his intent her father puts him through quite the test before revealing what he knows. Which isn’t very much at all.
With the aid of the postcards from her dad and some from Tex Slade finally locates her.
In spite of all the information her father gave Slade, he still had a ways go to gain her trust.
Then it’s attraction, action and so much more. I love Dakota’s strength and persistence brought forth even more by her friendship with Caroline.
Don’t miss this book, it’s a new favorite. I can’t wait to read what the other authors contribute.
I adore Susan Stoker’s books and this one was no exception. I loved the characters (they’re older and so am I), the plot, the romance, and especially getting to catch up a little bit with the original SEAL team that I love so much. This was a brilliant conclusion to the SEAL of Protection series and an excellent beginning to the Sleeper SEAL’s series. I’ll continue to read EVERYTHING Susan writes.
At the end of Chapter 11, I stuck my place marker in the paperback book, slammed it down and yelled out loud; no freakin’ way! I can’t imagine how Author Susan Stoker can come up with so many twists and turns and shockers as she does! But they only get better and better! Loved this story (I feel like a parrot, repeating myself with each Stoker book I read and review!). Anxious for more!
Great characters. Yes there is life (and sex) after 45.
Dakota is running scared but so far has been able to hide from the terrorist after her. Cutter has been chosen to find her, get the man’s description and stop his plans of destruction. Should be easy for a retired SEAL, right? It proves more difficult than originally thought. Somehow, Aziz seems to know where Dakota is. Cutter must uses all of his SEAL training and the help of some friends to keep Dakota safe.
This is great suspense that keeps you guessing and pulling for the good guys. And of course, there’s romance as well.
I like the interconnected series and all the characters.
