I love this entire series and the personal obstacles that people overcome and lovers don’t see as a problem.
Interesting & Intriguing!! This story was very interesting, intriguing and sexy! It kept me on the edge of my seat and excited! Definitely recommended reading if you love romantic suspense!
Cheyenne had a boring life, her family always made her feel less than them. As a 911 operator, she handles stress and emergencies better than most. So when she ends up with a bomb tapped into her body she doesn’t freak out, she tries to get away from everyone to protect them.
Dude is the bomb expert of the team, the one the cops sometimes go to when they need someone to disarm explosives. He was the one to get that bomb off of Cheyenne.
Dude was impressed with Cheyenne. She stayed strong throughout him cutting the bomb from her chest and she didn’t freak out. Dude wanted to know her better and take her out. The two of them clicked.
Dude takes her to meet his friends, Cheyenne isn’t sure they’ll like her.
Someone out there wants revenge, and they are waiting for the right time to get Cheyenne away from her military friends.
I’ll say it again: I FREAKIN LOVE SUSAN STOKER’S BOOKS.
Great read, did not put this one down, keep me interested to the end.
The SEAL of Protection series continues with Protecting Cheyenne, Susan Stoker’s fifth novel in this series. Each novel deals with a different member of the SEAL team and how he meets his forever women. As in the other books in this series, Susan’s female main character, is average woman, not a super model or a super hero. Cheyenne, like so many of Susan’s heroines , is more relatable because she is so like most women in the real world. Susan Stoker is a master in developing well rounded characters who evolve as the story unfolds. I couldn’t help but love, Cheyenne’s inner strength and selfless attitude.
Susan’s worlds include larger than life male heroes, who have muscles on muscles, and make women drool. It is here that Susan’s innate understanding of these extraordinary men shines through. Through Susan’s excellent storytelling, the hero of this story, Faulkner “Dude” Cooper, deep love for Cheyenne shows in his willingness to sacrifice his very life for her. Again what makes this novel so swoon worthy for me is recognizing that the love Cheyenne and Dude share is the type of love that is very rare and not to be taken lightly. Susan just has such a way with words that this love shines through the entire story.
The plot for Protecting Cheyenne, is one of the most suspenseful I have ever read in a Susan Stoker novel. I literally held my breath through the final scenes in this book, fearful that the team would not be able to pull of the rescue in time. Wonderfully done, Susan! I was so caught up I was afraid to put the book down for fear that I would jinx the mission. Like I was there and somehow responsible for the missions success! Only an excellent writer could manage to make a reader feel they were that much a part of the action.
The sex in this book is steamy but not as explicit as other books I have read in this genre. However, I should say that in this novel there is more of a Dominant/Submissive theme to the lovemaking. Personally, I believe everyone has their own kink to lovemaking, so while not into BDSM myself, it doesn’t bother me to read about it. I get that might not be the case for everyone but unlike some other reviewers, I don’t think Susan’s love scenes detract from the book. I appreciate the balance she has between plot and love scenes. So many contemporary romances today have more sex than plot!
Overall, Protecting Cheyenne is another great read by one of my favorite romance authors. It is well worth the time and price to read this book. I recommend you grab a copy and see for yourself.
I guess if you really dislike a character, the author has definitely done a good job writing her story. Dude definitely likes to control his world including Cheyenne. Cheyenne is submissive to him in almost everything. I was really angry at Dude reading this story. Susan Stoker did an excellent job developing both characters.
This is a powerful story of home-grown terrorism, robbery, kidnapping, and, justice. I love that 911 Operators are honored in this book because they are true heroes each and every day when they answer that phone. Yes, there are the rare unnecessary calls but every job has it’s oddities. Cheyenne is taken hostage, bombs attached to her body, and, duck-taped head to toe. Is she scared; she’s terrified. A specialist in explosives is called and she “meets” Falkner “Dude” Cooper. He rescues her, cares for her, and, in the end, they are more than friends. The only objection I have to the entire story-line is the continued and constant demand by Dude that he have total control when with her. It wasn’t that long ago that women had absolutely no “say” in the workplace, often in their own homes (still happens), or, in communities where we live. Equal rights weren’t equal at all! So, in this story where an independent gal is now totally controlled in and out of the bedroom, it rubs me the wrong way. Just sayin’…
I am really enjoying the writing of Susan Stoker. Her characters are interesting and situations are exciting.

love, loved it. great story and great writing. would love to read more stories by her
I absolutely love Susan Stoker’s books. I read and reread them. I love how the Seal teams and the Delta teams intertwine. Then add in the firefighters and law enforcement officers, well it’s just great reading.
It seems Cheyenne can’t get a break from trouble and her family is the worst. I know if i were her, it’s something I could do without. She has seen Dude before at the grocery store she shops at and that’s why she always goes back there. But this time she has a bomb taped to her when he sees her again. She really cracks me up when they give her strongs medicines, she has not filter. Great story. HEA.
Part of a series, but can be read seperately
Read all of her books. Always great stories.
I love all things Susan Stoker. This was an anticipated continuation of the series.
This was a great installment in a great series. Somehow Susan keeps things fresh and unique with each new book. This is one of my favorites though. These two were truly made for each other!
Good read
