At just ten years old, Tommy has already been through more horror than most people suffer their entire lives. So when he’s placed in his latest foster home, under the gentle care of Abe and Alabama Powers, he lashes out. He’s scared, confused, angry…and convinced it won’t be long before these new foster parents send him away, too. No one wants a boy his age, especially one who’s broken, dirty.… dirty.
It’ll take all of Alabama and Abe’s love, the sibling adoration of his foster sisters, Brinique and Davisa, and Abe’s entire extended SEAL family to prove to Tommy that being nice, being respectful, and opening his heart to love are things he can choose. Even still, despite so much support, it’s hard for Tommy to believe he deserves a loving family, and a second chance at happiness.
Until one of the most unexpected friends arrives, just when Tommy needs him the most. He’ll show the little boy just how special he is…even if he has to use a little magic to prove it.

I have been a fan of Susan Stokers for awhile now and was looking forward to this book. It is a little different from her norm but she still hit it out of the park.
Having read all the books in this series it was like coming home. I already knew all the players and was happy to witness their happily ever afters.
However this book did have it’s sad/hurt parts also. Tommy just wanted to be loved and having been through what he went through, he was acting out. But leave it up to Alabama, Abe and the rest of the group to show him what family is and what it means to be safe.
A change of pace. Lots of familiar characters from Ms. Stoker’s SEAL of Protection series, but this novella focuses on the children, in particular, Tommy, the extremely trouble foster son, Abe and Alabama want to adopt. All I’ll say is Gamjee is a keeper! I loved it!
SS, so obviously awesome…yet mildly odd at the same time hence the 4* for an author that’s usually a 5* guaranteed from me
It’s not that this book isn’t great, it comes from a totally different perspective (a child’s eyes) which is actually refreshing, but has a funny element to it that just felt…odd I guess is the best way to describe it.
I adored catching up with the team and seeing where they were and seeing Abe and Alabama get their family was simply amazing. The characters are exactly who you remember them to be and the storyline is strong and as emotional as you expect it to be for an SS book
One to read but expect the unexpected
This is a beautifully written story, a little whimsical, about how badly adults can hurt children and how important the love of family is. Do read this book.
The Protecting Alabama’s Kids storyline was completely unexpected and absolutely enchanting. It worked on every level. My favorite part was the glimpse into the future of Davisa, Brinique and Tommy. A fabulous book to end this series!
“Protecting Alabama’s Kids” is the tenth book in the SEAL of Protection series. Abe and Alabama have two adopted daughters, Brinique and Davisa and now they are adding Tommy, who has not had the best start in life. Tommy has already been through some foster families so he knows that it is only a matter of time before Abe and Alabama send him back too. That is how Tommy feels and it confuses him, makes him angry and scared. He just cannot believe anyone would want him so he lashes out, anything to let himself not get close to people.
It will take the love of Abe, Alabama, their girls and the whole SEAL team to help Tommy realize that he can and will be a part of a loving family. That despite everything he has been through he is wanted. This one is loaded with family, friends, laughter, sadness, determination and hope with a little magic thrown in.
This book held my attention and I found I couldn’t put it down. I think it was very realistic in terms of what’s happening today in human trafficking. It made me wonder how much our country does to save people who are kidnapped. Great read and I can’t wait to jump into the next book
O wow. What an unusual, nevertheless wonderful story. And all the guys are involved. To bad it’s the last one in the series and it’s over now…
I was glad to revisit Alabama and Abe. I loved that they adopted kids and Brinique, Davisa and Tommy were very deserving kids of all the love that came from Abe and Alabama. I also loved Gamjee and how much he helped Tommy. Once I started this book I didn’t want to put it down because from start to finish it was a heartbreaking but heartwarming story.
Abe and Alabama Powers become foster parents to Tommy, a ten year old child who has experienced the most horrific abuse in his young life. Confused, scared and angry, he lashes out at his foster parents, convinced that no one would want someone as damaged as he is.
One incident becomes his turning point, and, with the love of an imaginary friend, Abe and Albama, his sisters and the rest of the SEALs, Tommy finally accepts that maybe, just maybe, he is worthy of a second chance at happines.
Just like Alabama’s story, Susan nailed it with her narrative of parental abuse and what it means, what it takes, to get out of that cycle. No child, no matter what race, denomination, or status in life deserve to have their innocence taken away, and it is up to us to help make that a reality in however way we know how.
This is why I love Susan Stoker’s stories. Even if some military stories are a dime a dozen, I would argue that hers is unique, in that she always has a gem that you could pick up and keep, if you would only dig deep and look for it.
If you haven’t read this one, I encourage you to do so, and pick up Alabama’s story while you’re at it. You won’t regret it!
A mix of fantasy and reality
Alabama and Christopher also known as Abe, bring another foster child into their family. They already have two girls that they’ve adopted and now they want the same goal with Tommy. But Tommy is angry after what happened to him and takes it out on his sisters or whoever is around him!
When a wish catches the attention of King Matuna, he enlists the help of his troll, Gamjee As kids we know some have imaginary friends and his is how Gamjee presents himself. However, danger lurks closer than anybody could have imagined.
A good story that mixes a bit of fantasy with reality and I loved the ending and discovering what the future holds for Tommy
I first purchased this book when it was in Kindle World as I wanted to know more about Abe’s and Alabama’s adopted kids. I loved it. I was so sad when Kindle World close and I thought how much everyone would miss out if they were not able to read this book in the future. Susan Stoker did a wonderful job tweaking the story so it could be re-released everywhere and I just had to have a copy of this one too. If you have not read any of Susan Stoker’s books what are you waiting for, dive right in, you will not regret it. Everything she writes is awesome. Some I love better than others but I have not found a single one that I didn’t like.
