Heaven refers to them as Misplaced Halos. Humans don’t even know they exist. This faction of celestial warriors was sent here under the cover of darkness to protect humanity from Lucifer’s demons. In return for their servitude, these warriors expect only one thing: the love they were promised, what angels refer to as an amsouelot. The first of his kind, Obsidian has spent the past fifteen … hundred years fighting alongside his brothers, protecting humans from Lucifer’s demons, all while keeping to the shadows. Their mission is simple, right up until it isn’t. The day Obsidian learns of a traitor in Heaven is the day everything changes. The entire reason for his existence is put on hold because there’s a new assignment: find the female whose soul belongs to his and protect her, no matter the cost.Penelope Calazans spends her days sleeping and her nights serving free drinks to the gamblers looking to win big in Sin City. It’s not a glamorous life, perhaps a tad lonely, but she’s content. Or she thought she was. Then he appears. The mystery man who would turn out not to be a man at all, but rather an angel. The angel who would turn Penelope’s mundane life upside down, revealing what really lurks in the dark. Not only do they have to battle the demons looking to possess their souls, but Obsidian and Penelope must overcome the obstacles that come with falling in love. In the end, an angel and a human must make the ultimate sacrifice, all in the name of a love everlasting.

Nicole Edwards is one of my favorite authors! I’m a paranormal fan (that’s what got me into reading in the first place years ago) and this one is another amazing read to add to the list! So if paranormal is your thing, you must check out the Misplaced Halo series! I was hooked from the get go and I love how Nicole put her own little twist on what a traditional angel is made out to be. This is a dark, romantic, amazing start.
This series is amazing!
I actually never read paranormal books, not since Twilight. They just aren’t my thing but when Nicole Edwards said she was writing one I was all in. This series so far is one of my favorite this year and I can’t wait for the series to continue. I highly recommend this book and all the others. In fact, any book that Nicole writes is a must read if you like angsty, sexy books with tons of hotness in them.
The first book lays the ground work for the beginning of the Misplaced Halos Series. They are Angels here on Earth, to protect the Human race from the demons and Lucifer. Also, they are on the hunt for their fated human lover. If the demons. get to the Angels human mate, they will no longer exist. Obsidian is the first of the brothers to find his fated mate, Penelope. Their connection is electric, sexy and everlasting. This is a great start to this series!
Rich Miller narration shows the love and emotions in this story. I enjoyed listening to this story.

I’m always a little apprehensive about authors switching genres but Nicole Edwards did a great job with her first dip into paranormal romance.
Obsidian is an angel walking the earth protecting humans from Lucifer’s evil, in this book we learn that Lucifer is after his and the other Misplaced Halos’ amsouelots, their soul mates. They need to find the women of their souls in order to keep them safe and keep everything right in the world. It doesn’t sound easy and it’s even harder than you would think, so many obstacles!
PROTECTED IN DARKNESS was very easy to fall into and feel as if I was a part of that world. Things aren’t easy for Obsidian and Penelope but when Lucifer is after you how could they be. There were so many twists and turns, Nicole takes us on one heck of a ride with this first book of what looks to be an amazing series. I cannot wait to read the rest of the books!
If you are a fan of Paranormal Romances and haven’t read any of Nicole Edwards’ books yet I would urge you to add this one to your TBR list, it has everything you can hope for and much more!
Happy Reading!!!
I had to look twice at who the author was when I requested this book. Nicole Edwards has branched into PN with sexy, angels protecting humanity from Satan’s demons while looking for there life mates. Beware, This story is full of steam.
Rich Miller did an excellent job narrating.

Captivating & Fascinating PNR! Great Audible Listen
Protected in Darkness
Misplaced Halos, Book 1
By: Nicole Edwards
Narrated by: Rich Miller
This book is awesome! Nicole Edwards is one of my favorite authors, I fell in love with her work and the Walkers several years ago. She is a gifted author who writes amazing erotic romance books and it is great to see another side of her writing and creative mind as she ventures into the fantasy and paranormal romance genre. And she does not disappoint I love the imaginative world she created as well as the imaginative characters in that world. I love the whole concept of Heaven’s “Misplaced Halos” celestial warriors protecting the humans from Lucifer’s demons, this band of warriors are Angels and answer to the Archangel Michael. There are seven warriors and each one was promised eternal love, a one and only, soulmate, which they refer to as an amsouelot. But when a traitor revealed info about the Angel’s Amsouelots to Lucifer the mission for the Misplaced Halos changes, they must find their soulmate before Lucifer does. This book focuses on Obsidian, he is the oldest of the Warriors and the other six look up to him and consider him their leader. He finds his Amsouelot in Vegas, just as one of Lucifer’s soldiers does too. Penelope is human, moved to Vegas to track her brother Oliver, she got a job at a casino and that is where Obsidian first meets her. Obsidian must convince Penelope she is his soulmate, he also needs convince her he is angel and she is in danger. She also learns her brother is involved with a women who is possessed by a Demon, Seraphina. She, see this when things start to happen in Vegas and she agrees to go to the safety of his home in Colorado. In addition to this storyline there are plenty more going on, there is great world building and a lot to learn of their culture, the other supernatural beings, ie FAE, Vampires, different types of demons, the hierarchy of the Heaven’s above as well as what goes on in their house, different types of servants and so forth. There is a lot to learn and the characters names and what they are are all unique and uncommon names, all is presented well and explained so it is easy to follow. There is never a dull moment in this book, there is plenty of drama, action, some angst, twists and turns, some thrilling suspense and some hot romance. Nicole Edwards, thank you for this fascinating story, I am looking forward to what comes next for the Misplaced Halos.
I listened to the Audible edition, Rich Miller is a terrific narrator and voice artist. He did a great job portraying the characters, bringing them to life, giving them their voices and personality. He set the perfect tone fo the story, captured and projected the characters emotions as well as the drama of the story into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen

This was a change from what I have been reading lately. I started off enjoying the different characters but found it hard with some of the pronunciations. Then the further I read, I started to find that there seemed to be sex on every other page with no real story between. I felt there was a big thing made of her abilities, but then nothing ever came of it. Also, there was the issue with her brother, who hardly got mentioned even though he was in the house with them all. One minute he was angry about being there, but then the next minute, he was willing to stay and help, yet there was nothing to tell us how this change in his attitude came about.
I loved it!!!
While it took me a couple of chapters to really get into it, once I did I was hooked. I’ve read several paranormal series, but never anything like this.
These angels!!!
I want to be inside Nicole Edwards’ head for the rest of the series. All of her ideas & concepts really engaged & entertained me; their history, their powers, their family & their love stories. I’m so enthralled with her imagination & feel absolutely blessed that I am able see all that imagination come to life in her books. I have big hopes for this series & I can’t wait!!!
The back story & all supporting characters had me intrigued almost as much as the main characters; warrior angel, Obsidian & his amsouelot/soul mate human, Penelope. The intense chemistry these two was off the charts hot & a great love story to boot, as per usual for Nicole Edwards. I was never a huge fan of paranormal but I am of Ms. Edwards & she may have converted me.
If you don’t believe in Angels now, you will after this book!!
What I love most about the settings and worlds created in the paranormal romance genre is their richness…their complexity…their contradictory qualities. And the backstory that’s required to be told in order to understand the diversity of the plot and to fully comprehend exactly what the heroes and heroines are up against when it comes to their fight against evil and darkness.
Celestial beings – angels and demons – have a volatile and complicated relationship – one that is about so much more than good vs. evil, light vs. dark. And because of how far back the war between them goes, vigilance has to be had by these angel warriors to ensure that Lucifer and his demons do not turn the world into one hellish playground of death and destruction.
In Nicole Edwards’ Protected in Darkness, she introduces readers to the protectors of mankind – Misplaced Halos – a group of angels who keep to the shadows in order to ensure humans don’t fall prey to the demons who want nothing more than to own each and every soul on this earth, to revel in the annihilation of the human race, shrouding the world in nothing but a devil’s playground.
The story’s hero, Obsidian, was the first Warrior Angel specifically created to protect humanity and, in return, he was promised his soul mate – the other half of all that he is. Obsidian is vigilant when it comes to what he was created for, but when he learns that there’s a traitor in the ranks, his duty to mankind becomes secondary to his need to find and protect his soul mate; the protection of many turns to the protection of one, and what that means for the world and for Obsidian and Penelope comes down to what these two are willing to sacrifice in order to keep Lucifer and his demons at bay.
It’s clear from their initial encounter that Obsidian and Penelope feel their connection to the depths of their beings and as they struggle to truly understand all the ways that their souls are intertwined and what that means for what they’re up against when it comes to Lucifer’s plan for mankind.
Nicole Edwards’ first foray into paranormal romance was everything I hoped it would be. Protected in Darkness exudes Edwards’ ability to create multifaceted characters and a story with multiple, interwoven plot lines that are complicated by things both in and out of the characters’ control. Every single aspect of this story worked for me and I can’t wait to see where Edwards takes these characters and this fight between good and evil, light and dark, angels and demons.
5 Poison Apples
This is Nicole’s first paranormal book and it’s very good. It’s an interesting and original take on Angels and Demons. The world building is very good, I did get a little confused with all the new descriptive terms so I would recommend having a read through of the dictionary after the first couple of chapters as once I got my head around the terms I didn’t struggle with remembering what meant what.
The characters are well thought out and all very intriguing. The main couple the book centres on are very lovable and following the relationship develop kept me hooked throughout. I did find some of the intimate scenes a little repetitive, hence the 4 stars not 5. They did seem to favour a certain position and I liked it when they spiced it up abit.
Overall it’s a great start to the series and I’m hoping the next story hits the ground running. I don’t really know which Angels story is next but I’m looking forward to whoever it is.
Wow!! Just Wow!! Nicole Edwards decides to take a dip into the paranormal genre with Protected in Darkness, but she did not dip, she jumped right on in!! This book was fantastic!! Yes it is the start of a series, but this book is so different from other paranormal books that I have read. The premises of the book is so different. There are 7 brothers…or rather Angels who need to find their soulmates (amouselots) or else…and yeah, since we are talking angels, demons, vampires and the like, we are talking end of world consequences here!! Wow!! I will admit that some of the names and terms used in the books to describe the characters are unusual, but they basically are pronounced the way they are spelled, so it won’t be difficult. And if you get stuck just remember we all got stuck on those Greek Mythology names, but it never ever took away from the story, so read on and enjoy!!
Protected in Darkness is the book that sets up the series, but it is also Obsidian and Penelope’s journey, and what a journey it is!! Wow!! Obsidian, this absolutely gorgeous man, who is almost 7 feet tall, has lots of secrets that need to be told, and who is searching for his soulmate Penelope, who is this tiny cute little lady. Once he finds her it is definitely a race against the clock for both of them to make the needed connection.
All I can say is that the world that Nicole Edwards has set up with this series will absolutely intrigue, engross and consume you!! So, be prepared to not stop reading until you are finished!! I cannot wait for the next book in this series!! Bravo, Nicole Edwards!! Bravo!!
I keep finding myself writing reviews saying that “I’m not really into this genre, but…” My favorite authors keep going there, and therefore so do I. Thoroughly enjoyed this new venture from Nicole. So different from the traditional angle, vampire, fae stories out there. Definitely put her own spin on the traditional angel as a protector with a very down to earth, bad boy human element mixed right in. definitely looking forward to the next installment, hoping it’s Eclipse’s story. Definitely recommend a walk on the wilder side of the traditional heavenly hosts.
Nicole Edward’s master’s yet another genre, Paranormal.
Nicole Edwards’ first book in her paranormal series, Misplaced Halos, Protected in Darkness is one not to be missed. The characters and story line come together perfectly to make it a very enjoyable read. I can’t wait for more books in this new series to come out.
3.5 stars for – Protected in Darkness – book one in the Misplaced Halos series by Nicole Edwards. This is the start of a new series and Ms. Edwards first ever paranormal romance which is one of my favorite genres when done right. I went into this book hoping I would love it like I do all of her work but there was a lot going on and it got confusing more than once which caused me to have to go back an reread parts to try and figure out what exactly was going on. The only other issue I had was this book was very tame for Nicole and lacked the signature heat I have loved from her in the past therefore I felt while the main characters had chemistry it wasn’t with the usual combustion she sets the pages on fire with.
Obsidian is an angel that protects humans from the demons of Lucifer. He along with his brothers learn that their soulmates are in danger after someone got ahold of a list that is supposed to be sacred. With only her name to go on he must find her somewhere in North America before Lucifer gets ahold of her.
Penelope moved to Las Vegas to be close to her brother and works nights as a cocktail waitress. She lives a rather lonely existence with only her best friend in Los Angeles to talk to until a giant beautiful man walks into her life and turns it upside down. Everything she thought only existed in her favorite books lurks around every dark corner and she has no idea what’s coming next.
I will definitely continue on with this series as it hopefully irons out the kinks. Many of the characters are quite interesting and will make for interesting reading too.
Protected in Darkness is Nicole Edwards’ first paranormal! I love a good angel, demon, vampire romance and I believe Nicole did a fantastic job! I was pulled in from the very start and didn’t want to stop reading until the very end. Every character is intriguing, with a story that begs to be told. It’s a series, so I know we will get all the stories we crave. But first up is Obsidian and Penelope. He’s the first Warrior Angel created and sent to Earth. His brothers have been created and they make up the Misplaced Halos. Lucifer is up to something and Obsidian and his brothers need to find their amsouelot, their soul mate. They always knew it was coming and now time is of the essence. Penelope has always been different. She’s an empath and studied the supernatural and has a fascination with other worldly things and beings. When she first sees Obsidian, she’s drawn to him but doesn’t know why. He wants to know her, protect her and eventually make her his for eternity. Penelope and Obsidian’s need for each other heightens every minute. They need to join bodies and souls soon. Will Penelope and Obsidian be able to make the ultimate sacrifice? Wow, this book was great! It has all the things I love in a paranormal romance: Lust, need, angels, fairies, sexiness, humor, intensity, suspense and more sexiness! I’m already looking for the next book. I can’t wait to see whose turn it is!
What a fantastic new paranormal series by Nicole Edwards. I love when an author puts a new twist on a paranormal read with angels and demons and every creature in between, and that is what Nicole Edwards has done with Protected in Darkness. The action and adventure, the chemistry, the twists and turns, and the love and sacrifice make this book fly by as you are reading. If you are interested in the Angel Warriors here on Earth searching for their one love before the demons find them, then please go read this book. You will not be disappointed. I cannot wait to read the rest of the Misplaced Halos that are to come.
I have read all of Nicole Edwards books and this was one of my absolute favorites. This new world she has created is amazing and all the characters are larger than life. The brothers that the world revolves around couldn’t be more different than one another yet you can also see that they will do anything for each other, all while giving one another endless amounts of grief about it.
This first story is Obsidian’s who happens to be the oldest and leader of the group of what is called the misplaced halos, a group of warrior angels living on Earth to protect humans from demons. He and his brothers were content to live out their days ridding the Earth of demons until they found they now have a bigger mission. He needs to find his one true soul mate and protect her from the demons coming after her. All he has is her name and the fact that she lives in the United States, no problem, right?
Penelope lives in Vegas after following her brother, the only family she is sort of close to out there. She works in a casino serving watered down drinks to tourists at night while trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life. As soon as she sees Obsidian, she feels an instant connection but cannot figure out why. She agrees to a date with him but feels like her feelings are too intense for having just met him and that things are moving way to fast.
Obsidian needs to convince Penelope to go with him for her safety, but he wants and needs it to be her choice. She can tell he is keeping secrets from her and when she pushes him, he finally tells her everything. The question is will it be too much for her the angels, the demons, them being soul mates or will she stand by him through it all and come through it stronger together? I would highly recommend this book and cannot wait to see how the rest of the brother’s stories play out especially with the little glimpses we get into their searches throughout this book.
I don’t care if this was Nicole Edwards first try at a paranormal book, this book was just as awesome as all her other!
She hits all the right emotions throughout the all darn book!
I personally recommend this book!
I’ll start by saying I’m a huge Nicole Edwards fan. I might not get a chance to read her books as much as I would like but once I seen she was writing a paranormal, I had to read it.
I’ve never been into reading paranormal but growing up I loved to watch vampires, witches, demons etc. Reading this book brought me back to my childhood .
At the beginning I had trouble getting into this book but then I couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait to read more in this new series!!
