The arrogant bastard is back… myself.
And I fell for him. Hard.
Then he left with no explanation other than a pathetic goodbye note.
Now he’s back and at my best friend’s wedding of all the damn places, demanding a second chance.
I’m so done with him.
Except, I can’t stop thinking about ripping that suit off his delicious body.
But it’s fine, I’m fine.
As long as he doesn’t kiss me or touch me or look at me, I’ll be fine!
Scratch what I said before because I’m so screwed.

Protect Me
by Alexis Winter
Good read! Amy Brighton is the receptionist at her best friend Vesper’s animal clinic. Amy is a bright woman who is feeling lost now that her best friend is getting married and not is involved in starting up another clinic. Not to mention, her mother is in constant need to be taken care of, and her brother, Ethan, is away in the military. As she tries to get out of her own head and relax at the local bar, she runs into Tyler, the ranch hand at the O’Connor ranch. Things between the two take off rather slowly, much more slowly than Amy would like. But, things do progress…until Tyler is gone! She knew something was up, but didn’t expect his up and leaving after professing his undying love! How can Amy go on? What happened to take him away so suddenly? Will Amy have the strength to open her dream coffee shop now? I really feel for Amy, she puts her all into everything she does, always. Tyler, on the other hand seemed spectacular in his own right, until this. Their love and future seemed so promising. I truly enjoyed this latest from Ms. Winter and look forward to many more.

The story is well-written, with a great plot and great characters. There is lots of sex scenes and some angst between the two main characters.
Alcoholism and its effects on others is also part of the story and very well handled.
This book is for you if you like smoking hot hanky-panky between consenting yummy adults and happy ever afters.

Action packed, sexy, fun, engaging and emotional adventure filled with danger, suspense and undeniable passion… an edge of your seat read from beginning to end and so hard to put down. Really enjoyed the charters I got to know on this journey.

3.5 star review:
A second chance story with nice storyline and plot. Characters are well defined and described nicely. Nice chemistry between the main characters.
I would have liked their connection to be more believable and real. A very short explanation about why he left should not be enough to cover what she felt and lived through. Amy should be stronger in her opinions and selfcondidence. The ending feels rushed compared to the first half of the story.
Two main characters who have a lot to fight through before they can have their HEA.
Nice read which has a lot of potential.
A breathtakingly beautiful story of two broken people who find their strength in each other. There are some steamy scenes and some heartache. Amy and Tyler will burrow into your heart. You so want them to move past their brokenness and grab onto their happily ever after. A must read.

Two siblings made to care for their alcoholic mother. Her brother then abandons her.
Amy’s life hasn’t been easy. Her mother used alcohol to escape life. Her brother
Ethan leaves and joins the military as soon as he can to find his own escape from his mother.
Amy carried on with life. Put herself through school and checks on her mother to see if she hasn’t drank herself to death.
She works as an assistant to her best friend who has started her own veterinary office.
Things start changing for Amy after she meets Tyler at a bar and the typical hookup happens.
This book is a great story of hardship, perseverance, life changing events, heartbreak and making your choices to change things and read what life brings you.
Great book to read and is a favorite of mine. Will be reading Just Friends which is the first book of the story line. Protect Me is stand alone. You’ve got to get this one to read. You can’t help but love it.

I gave a 5+ stars to this book. It was soooooo good!!!
“Protect Me” by Alexis Winter this is book 2 in The Mountain Ridge series.
This book got me right from the start, it was so freaking good! I have to say that it has a very important serious subject, the emotions of it really got to me. I was crying through 50% of the book which to me is a good thing. This is one of the best books I’ve read lately.
Amy and Tyler were two broken down people, they didn’t do serious relationships, only having fun and one night stand hookups. They were 2 peas in a pod, but deep down they both had suffered through a lot of pain and heartbreaks in their lives.
Amy grew up having to deal with her mother’s drunkenness. She became the mother versus being the daughter. She is unhappy with her life, she needs a change but feels stuck without any options were to start.
Tyler always wanted to be a rancher, he’s wanted to own his own ranch. All that was thrown upside down, when he was betrayed by the last person who he had expected, that could hurt him so much. He just ran away!
I was rooting for Amy and Tylet to make it, be happy together-they made their way into my heart. Their chemistry together was so HOT, steamy goodness. It felt natural the way it was developed.
This book was about relationships, loved Vesper and Liam, maturity, learning to forgive, learning to open your heart again to love, it also had its share of painful emotions- Alcoholism!!!
Just be strong enough to go forth and realize your dreams like Amy did!
Alexis you did a fantastic job with this book, thank you!
Can’t wait for book 3 “Baby Shock”
I really enjoyed Anneliese and Hugh’s struggle with love. There was mystery, danger and action to keep it interesting. It was easy to read, entertaining and a happy ever after ending. I received this book as an ARC and I am voluntarily reviewing this book.
Amy is a receptionist at her friends Vet clinic. When a new vet comes in to train with her friend Vesper (from Just Friends), Amy doesn’t get along well with him. After taking care of her mother who is an alcoholic, she goes to a bar and picks up Tyler. They have a night together but he leaves without letting her know. She is disappointed but figures it for the best. So when she tells Vesper about her dream of opening up a coffee shop, Vesper has Amy talk to Liam. Liam offers to invest in her dream as long as she will help around the ranch. Well Tyler works on the ranch so she has to try to get along with Tyler even though they both feel the chemistry. Excellent book with some angst and hot chemistry.

A fantastic, captivating story about healing and second chances. Amy is a young woman trying to overcome her past and learning to forgive those who have hurt her and Tyler a young ranch hand who is trying to heal from his broken heart. This was a heartwarming story filled with heartache, healing, passion, second chances in love and with family, and love. This was a well written story with wonderful characters readers can’t help but fall in love with. This was a fantastic story that I absolutely fell in love with.

There is absolutely everything to love about Mrs Winter. This book is the second chance at love as well as the second book in this series (Mountain Ridge). I found myself engrossed throughout this heartbreakingly beautiful storyline centered around Tyler and Amy. If you like your books to have a deep impact in an entirely impressive way, then I encourage you to pick up this unbelievable read and follow along as these two amazingly written characters find out if their time for a HEA is now. Wonderful.
I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader’s copy of Protect Me in exchange for my honest/voluntarily given opinion and I couldn’t recommend it more. Mrs Winter only publishes top quality books for all of us romance junkies and I am completely confident that you will adore her writing style and come back for more just like I do.
A phenomenal read! Beautifully written, well-developed, emotionally deep, and heart melting! It is action-packed with drama, humour, witty banter, good friends, and family issues. A fast pace page-turner with some ups and downs and flows smoothly. Amazing characters who are broken emotionally and just perfect for each other; the chemistry between them is intense, hot, and off the charts. Quite an enjoyable read and I have no regrets taking the time to read this book and I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

An amazing wonderfully written romance. It is an emotional rollercoaster that had me addicted and on the edge of my seat from page one as two emotional broken people fumble thru and eventually find a HEA as they face challenges life has thrown at them. This sweet sizzling hot heartbreaking story has lust, passion, forgiveness, love, angst, both have family drama, guilt, insecurities, uncertainty, fear, amazing chemistry and a little suspense making for one incredible storyline. The issues are addressed as you get drawn into the story further and further with these complex and relatable characters. A great definetly must have second chance romance.

WOW… I’m so happy for these two!!
We first meet Amy in, Just Friends (Mountain Ridge #1), and she was a force to be reckoned with. She was always known as the party girl, never wanting to settle down but while out one night she runs into Tyler, the guy her best friend went in a date with. All of a sudden she starts to think of a different future until he breaks her heart.
Tyler has been working as a ranch hand on The O’Connor Ranch for awhile now, he left home after his life took a turn to clear his head. He is known as a playboy, never wanting to be in a relationship. That is until he runs into a feisty Amy again but he gets a call from back home he has a decision to make, one he knows will hurt them both in the end.
This is a sweet, steamy, heartbreaking story of two broken people who are faced with some heavy life challenges. At the end of the day they realize what it is they truly want but can the hurt and pain be forgotten??
Second Chance Romance!
A rocky road to romance, healing and finding one’s dreams. Heart-wrenching drama of two broken people who finally find love, happiness and the HEA that they never thought they’d have. Wonderfully written. Enjoy!
I received an advance copy and am happy to leave my honest review.
Absolutely loved Tyler and Amy’s Story . I couldn’t stop reading it. So intriguing that it kept me turning page
This book contains steamy sex scenes and is for 18+ readers.
I loved this book. Not everyone will, as it deals with alcoholism at it’s worst. I felt the portrayal, including rehab & the aftermath, was done with compassion as well as accuracy.
This story is an emotional rollercoaster in the best way. Not only Amy & Tyler’s story, but Vesper & Liam’s too. (Be sure to read their book). I ached for Amy as she struggled to find her happy place. For Tyler as his walls broke down, laying him bare. All the characters, major & minor , learn that with love, perseverance, and a whole lot of forgiveness, HEA is assured & deserved.
You will love this book.
