Prospector’s Run
Artifact #1
By: Kevin W. Bates
REVIEW
Prospector’s Run makes me think about Indiana Jones on a quest to find an important artifact from an ancient civilization, only, in space. This story is a science fiction adventure, a journey, a search for treasure on long dead alien planets, perhaps earth?, because we are talking about five thousand years into the future here.
A down on his luck spaceship captain, a moneyed man with an adventuresome desire and a ragtag crew of colorful personalities set out seeking untold treasure and riches. What they find might be much more than an ordinary ancient artifact, however, what they learn about themselves and each other is potentially more valuable than that.
Characters-their backgrounds, secrets, eccentricities, motives-drive the story. Collectively and individually there is growth and development. Surprising betrayals, unflinching sacrifice, daring forgiveness, rebellious expression and uncertain loyalty can be found in these pages. I liked and disliked things about each character, but I became attached to them overall. What is their destiny? What is the next move? This is not a cliffhanger, but complete resolution doesn’t happen, either.
Any fan of the scifi genre, whether the hard or softer version, will enjoy this story. Your attention is captured from the first page, and the story never slows down. Actionable, entertaining, daring and compelling as it is, Prospector’s Run will not disappoint!
Prospector’s Run by Kevin W. Bates is a scifi story, which is a very different genre for me. Through i found it very interesting, it was slow for me at first because I was trying to figure out the characters and where the plot was headed. I will admit I was kind of lost a lot in the book. But for the most part, I don’t credit this to the author, but instead to me because I don’t usually go for this type of story as much. But Bates seems to have built himself quite the universe here, and if you love a good scifi, I highly encourage you to try this one out. The characters show creativity and as the story unfolds the characters show promise and growth. And the story is well written. That much I can tell. This is the beginning of a series so keep in touch with Kevin W. Bates to see what he has for you in his future books. This one is a four for me.

Prospector’s Run is the first book I had the pleasure of reading by Kevin W Bates. It, also, begins his series called Artifact. I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of science fiction. However, this book gives me another reason why I should go outside my comfort zone from time to time to read something new. I am so glad that I gave this one a try or I would have missed out on a good read.
Prospector’s Run takes readers on an interesting journey. I was taken to quite a different world. There are planets, aliens, and spaceships, oh my! I felt like I was on the journey with the characters. I must say it was quite the adventure. I never knew what was going to happen next. There were a few twists and turns that I would have never imagined. It was fun and entertaining from the start to finish. There is some humor included to a few scenes that was a nice bonus.
Prospector’s Run is getting four and a half stars from me. I would be interested in reading the next book in the Artifact series, Dawn’s Reach, to see what happens next. I would recommend this one for readers who enjoy reading books from the science fiction genre. I would, also, even recommend it to those who are looking for something new, unique and refreshing. I believe it is definitely worth a read.
I received Prospector’s Run from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
