Men found him attractive, interesting even. He was like a fascinating experiment gone wrong that men liked to investigate. He’d get a date – or two, if he was lucky – but it wasn’t long before Brian’s darkness showed, and the men were running from him.Brian King was honorably discharged from the United States Navy five years ago. He’d left with the highest honors a man can receive in his country, … man can receive in his country, but he’d paid the ultimate price to earn them. He was considered one of the best; an Intelligence Officer in a Joint Special Operations Delta team that’d been a twelve-man wrecking crew. They’d thought they were invincible… until they weren’t. Brian was the only member that survived the ambush. He survived ten months of pain, of torture, only to emerge on the other side a warrior. A POW survivor. He’d returned home with all his limbs, his right mind, and with his only brother Ford, at his side. But, one thing had been lost, maybe for good… his voice.
Now, being a bounty hunter is Brian’s only means to satisfy his need to calculate, track, and capture. His only outlet to the stress caused by his silence. He was good at what he did. But, all work and no play for a forty-four year old man was taking its toll. Brian wasn’t a faulty experiment. He missed companionship, he missed communicating. So, when he met Sway Hamilton – in the most unconventional means – he’d been surprised at his special way of understanding Brian’s every look… and touch.
Sway grew up in the rough part of ATL, trailing behind his twin brother Stanton and his best friend, Dana. He and his brother had a bond only twins could understand. So when Stanton’s life was taken during their sophomore year in college, Sway didn’t think he’d ever recover. He finally finished school, got his masters in nursing, worked hard, and focused on taking care of his mother. However, Sway knew there was more to life than heartache, and caring for others. There had to be. But he didn’t know what any of those things were until he met a dark hunter that blew his mind… and the intense man had never uttered a single word.
Brian and Sway can feel the powerful connection between them. It was there from the start—but both of them have battled with loss and anguish for so long, neither understand that love can ease all of it. Do they have the courage to battle through it together? Sway has to learn to trust in love, and Brian has to believe that Sway will always understand him even if he never speaks again.
Sway held him tight around his neck, “I don’t need you to talk Brian. I can hear you just fine,” Sway whispered softly, kissing his throat.
This novel is a part of a series but can be read as a standalone. No cliffhangers.
Trigger Warning: This story contains acts of bond recovery agent violence. Mention of war zones and descriptions of war prisoners. This story DOES NOT contain overly-described acts of torture.

BRIAN AND SWAY’S STORY
Brian Ford has gone through a lot in life. He suffers from PTSD and mental mutism. Sway is a nurse that works long hours. Their story starts in a sex house and they both hit it off without knowing each other. Sway is Dana’s honorary little brother. Sway is sweet and Brian is tortured. Their story which contains sexual harassment, war zone flashbacks, self-doubt, and emotional trauma. Sway’s kindness and Brian’s protectiveness lead to a sweet story that kept this reader sticking to the story until it was done.

I really enjoyed this book. I’m glad Brian found someone to care about him unconditionally and helped him find his voice. This romance is a lot more slow burning but it seemed a lot more genuine connection than previous books, maybe it because Brian and Sway have to overcome so much. Brian’s a dedicated war hero, after surviving as a prisoner of war and Sway lost the other half of himself, his twin Stanton. I loved the interactions between Sway, Stephanie (his mum) and Tweetie (Stephanie’s carer). Man what came out of Tweetie’s mouth cracked me up and there interactions with Brian were beautiful as well as funny.
Man Dr Dominick, one of Sway’s bosses is a complete snake when he’d say one thing in support of Sway’s suggestion about nurses being treated fairly, while always trying to get inappropriately close to Sway, he’d watch him while he’s showering, brush past him while working and as well as saying certain things that were hard for Sway to see if he was joking or not. But threatening Sway’s job and his morals were the final straw. I’m glad Brian was there to put the fear of god into him. He was actually completely stuck up and thought he was better than everyone because he’s a doctor.
I loved Quick’s reaction to seeing Brian at the Nurses’ Gala that they both attended with Cayson and Sway, it just showed the love between them and that even though they may not be related by blood, they’re definitely brothers. Man, Brian had to put up with a lot of people thinking less of him all because he doesn’t speak or that there must be something wrong with him, but that human nature. I loved the way the Brian found his voice after not being able to speak for so long due to the trauma he suffered while being a POW. It nearly brought me to tears in the hospital scene between Ford and Brian as it was such a poignant moment between the war hero brothers that would do anything for each other and that it doesn’t matter if your a complete bada*se you still have breakdowns like everyone else and there’s nothing wrong with it.
I’m looking forward to reading the next book as we’re going to get some more snippets on Brian, as Brian’s LT asked him to deliver a message to his son since he knows that he won’t make it home and to make sure he knows everything that happened. Due to Brian not being able to speak he hasn’t done that yet but he’s going to make sure he’s going to finish Jenkin’s last wish for his message to be delivered to his son. I’m also looking forward to meeting the next gen of Duke’s Bounty Hunters after they were featured briefly in Nothing Special VII: EX Meridian. I’d recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
Audiobook review:
Story – 5
Narration – 5
My favorite of the series; I love Sway and Brian.
Aiden Snow has given another fine performance of Promises Part 4. I really love his deep voice. It’s nice and smooth, yet nice and growly when needed. Promises Part 3 left me nearly panting for Part 4 and I wasn’t disappointed.
Brian has intrigued me from the first time he appeared in this series. Promises Part 4 was a perfect story for him and Sway. There was a great mix of action and adventure, hot, sexy time, and wonderful romance for these two men.
The story contains the normal bounty hunter stuff, just like in the other books, but there is also a secondary story concerning Sway and his boss at the hospital where he’s the charge nurse for a special nephrology study.
Promises Part 4 really kept my attention the whole time I listened to it – all eleven hours! I’m now looking forward to listening to Promises Part 5.
A copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

I really liked Brian and Sway’s story. They met in an unconventional way, but sparks
flew and neither forgot the other. By chance they meet again and refuse to let that
spark go.
A.E. is an automatic read for me, and she has not disappointed me yet. I have loved every book in this series, and this one was no different. Brian and Sway are so good together. A seriously hot, romantic and heartfelt journey.
