Audio Book review
This is my first book by Brittany Cournoyer but won’t be my last(really want to read the first book in this series) This is the second book in this series but it does work okay out of order. I followed quite well however I would have liked to have known a bit more about Carter and why he was guarding Brice, and Larry Brice’s dad. All that was probably covered in the first book and didn’t really take away from this.
Carter has been living with Brice as his built-in bodyguard for a year or more now. Brice doesn’t like it and is quite the brat.
I like the Growly Carter and Bratty Brice. I loved the back and forth fighting that led to hot sex. I thought the story was a perfect mix of tension, intrigue, mystery, suspense, and romance. I loved it!
Kenneth Obi added a great flair with unique voices for each man. You could hear Carters growls and grunts and the snark in Brice’s voice. and the sex? OH MY! if you have the opportunity get the audio, it really does bring the book to life and make boring chores much more fun.
Yes Lordy Lordy I was hoping this second book in the series was about Carter because I fell in love with him in the first book. He was surly and always grunting and I knew there was something there about him that was going to come out and I am so glad that this is his story.
Brice oh Brice he has a hard life with no mother and barley a father. His father has a job that takes him away for months at a time and he is always alone but his father wants his son to be protected when some threats arise so he hires Carter to protect his son.
Carter is a man of few words and I mean few words but he is one of my favorite characters in this series so far. He has served his time in the Military and he is out and living a life out of sight because he has someone stalking him. He never stays in one place for long so no one will find him. So why take this job protecting Brice well he does it as a favor for Brice’s father.
At first these two do not get along but as time goes by and Brice is in danger Carter is determined to protect him at all costs. But will these two ever disclose their true feelings for one another or will they just stay friends? What happens when the stalker comes to get them? This is a must read series and I need book three because this ending has me thinking I know who is going to get their own book.
A father’s love puts Brice and Carter in close proximity to one another and while Carter was willing to do the job, it doesn’t keep their personalities from clashing, often. Attraction is buried deep under their animosity, but when an enemy from Carter’s past puts them in danger the situation changes and their feelings change along with it, deepening to something irreplaceable. If they can shield one another from the dangers and survive, they might get the chance to let down all their walls and keep what they’ve found.
From the very beginning the sniping, childishness, and assholery took center stage. I’m not a fan. I do understand that Brice had some major issues and was acting out in the only way he knew how. Totally get it. But it went on for sooooooo looooooong that I wanted to skip so many pages of their interactions because none of it gave much insight beyond the first couple chapters, none of it progressed their feelings or changed their relationship, none of it made me like either man…and that’s a damn shame because the way the story ended made me want to like them so much.
The drama was definitely big and the conclusion came quick on its heels. There wasn’t a ton of build-up, that was used on drawing out their insane chemistry through hate-sex as well as their constant bickering. I don’t know that I’m a fan of the villain. The players were slightly predictable as were their accomplices, but the situation did work. Jillian was the most disappointing and I felt that her little confession was forced and contrived rather than natural and the confrontation in the hospital didn’t really give closure because the same feelings of betrayal and hurt were the same after their earlier phone call. Ultimately, I think the bad people were sufficiently bad and was surprised by the amount of damage that was allowed to happen at the end. I wasn’t mad at that surprise despite all the pain and awfulness Brice and Elliot had to endure.
Speaking of surprises, the set-up for the next story was a big shock when it was revealed though I could see how it came together afterward; hindsight is always 20/20. With enough of these little surprises and all the heart and honesty that came at the end I wasn’t ready to write this one off. My extreme annoyance with their quarreling immaturity was tempered with the way things ended.
Brice and Carter were an interesting couple. In the beginning, when Carter would barely speak to Brice, I had a hard time liking him. Maybe it would have been easier if I’d read book one first. Regardless, I did enjoy both men as their relationship progressed. Brice was really easy to love. I also liked the secondary characters, especially Elliot. I can’t wait to read more about him!
This book had nice sexy scenes, great action, well-placed humor, and bad guys who were easy to hate. I liked it a lot!
Awesome written book and a great book 2 in the series! Well done on Brice and Carter. I found it emotional to read but loved it
